[Rumor] Kings show interest in RJ Barrett

RJ is interesting. Was pretty bad for most of his stint in NYK, but I'm fairly certain he's become a good impactful player the last few years. Could be wrong on that, but I think he's taken a leap
This is how he ranks in his advanced impact stats…

VPM = 352nd
DPM = 368th
LEBRON = 335th
2Y RAPM = 365th
eRaptor = 154th
MAMBA = 154th
EPM = 138th

The difference is that Siakam already proved he was a very impactful player throughout his career. Barrett has not.

Also, I think you’re misrepresenting the situation. I wouldn’t say the Kings were “too passive” when pursuing Siakam. Siakam simply didn’t want to come here and appeared to make it known that if we traded for him he wouldn’t sign an extension or resign here. That doesn’t fit the bill of “too passive” for me.
As far as i remember on the james ham show they said, that we didnt want to pay him what he wanted in a next contract. The pacers did. They are in the conference finals now, and he is a very big part of it.

That’s incorrect according to Sam Amick. I’ll take Amick over Ham any day.

Ham did confirm all that, but i think the point was, that he still would have come, if we had agreed to paying him what he wants, had we been more aggressive in courting him, which we didnt/werent.

If i remember that episode correctly.

But it is no surprise if you read the article and the stance of our organisation on him. Goes hand in hand kinda.
And my point still stands, we missed a good player, someone else got him because they valued him properly, unlike us, and it worked out well for them.

But again, that’s not being “too passive” as you put it. They were obviously trying to negotiate his value down but that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t have been willing to pay what TOR wanted/what IND paid at the end of the day.

The breakdown comes down to what they actually said about Siakam when trying to negotiate his value down and ultimately that message getting back to Siakam himself. That’s not being “too passive.” If anything, they might have been too abrasive and failed to recognize that Siakam finding out what they said about him was a real possibility.

That’s still on the FO but for a different reason than you stated.

Should not be understated how weird of a situation the Raptors are in right now. They’re paying Scottie, Ingram, and Quickley a combined 140 million dollars next season despite all three guys having never have played a single game together. RJ’s making an additional 28 million dollars next year and Poetl’s due 19.5 million dollars. The only reason they aren’t in the second apron is because the rest of their roster is on rookie deals. (Boucher has a 20 mil cap hold though).

Their head coach also wants to run a high post elbow offense despite his centers being Poeltl and Mogbo.

If I didn’t know better, I’d think the more exciting deal for both franchises would be some sort of Domas for Scottie deal but the guy that their roster might actually really need is Zach Lavine because absolutely no one in their rotation can shoot a damn.

He has size that the Kings sorely lack but he's just kind of a bigger but worse version of LaVine/DDR. Doesn't have much of an impact on winning due to his offensive inefficiency and lack of defense. His PPG stats have always been misleading.

Actually Wiggins outside of a couple of good years in Golden State is probably a better comp.
