[Rumor] Kings show interest in RJ Barrett

Deebo back in Toronto actually makes sense. IQ, Deebo, BI, Barnes and Poeltl makes the playoffs but they are super short on shooting. Dick better let it fly off the bench

I don’t understand Atlanta’s interest. Risacher, Johnson and Daniels have the wing secured. Don’t really like the fit in SA. Chicago? I suppose.

He’s been ok from 3 the last couple years. Bad free throw shooter. Good passer. Other than being younger, is he better than Deebo? I’d say no unless someone chimes in saying he is good defensively.

Barrett is, while not being elite at anything, a two way player. Can score on good efficiency and is a plus defender. Should fit well next to LaVine and Keegan.
Playing next to two efficient scorers that can score from all 3 levels, could help Keegans scoring, too.

Depending on pur package, a first will probably be needed. He is still only 24/25. i would like the move, even with a first rounder attached

How? He’s not on a bad contract and he’s still young they don’t need to move him
They don’t need to move him but they probably will, and not for a massive haul either.

With their weird commitment to Ingram, along with Barnes. Barrett makes no sense on their team anymore and he only serves to block their two best prospects in Walter and Grady.

Plus, they were humbled when they tried to trade him for Ingram but the Pelicans said they will pass on Barrett and decided to take Olynek and Brown instead.

Toronto will be trying to stay under the luxury tax and they don’t have much room until that breaches with the draft and free agency coming up. They might try to keep Boucher. They will probably be looking for an exception of sorts. Kings still have some from the LaVine deal.

I don’t see a massive market for him right now and I’m not sure he’s really the answer for the Kings.

Funny seeing Matt George go all out when he’s been whining for months about how the team makes no sense with Deebo and LaVine but Barrett isn’t exactly “swing the ball McGee” and is a terrible free throw shooter

I would trade DeMar for him(though not sure Toronto would want all that money back) but no unprotected first or standalone pick swap.

They can have the rights to that pick we’re swapping with the Spurs. I want it gone lol

RJ is interesting. Was pretty bad for most of his stint in NYK, but I'm fairly certain he's become a good impactful player the last few years. Could be wrong on that, but I think he's taken a leap

He is averaging 20/5/5 on good effiency while playing plus defense, is 25 years old and earns ca 27 mio for the next 2 years, so yeah, it cant get done without a pick. It should be protected, but nobody is getting him without a pick.

Raptors Reddit seems to think he is a good as a third option with his best attribute being his ability to drive left. They like his attitude and effort. They consider him a poor defender.

Yeah, he’s never been known as a plus defender. This is not what we should be going after. Should be acquiring good to great defending wings and a PG who is good

This isn’t a a ringing endorsement

How would this deal not necessarily take a 1st in order to complete? Because Barrett, in my honest opinion, is not worth a 1st, especially if that 1st is part of a larger package.

Outside of Carter and keegan we have nothing of value to give them without adding a first unless you’re talking about a Sabonis for Barrett and Poeltl swap. They’re not swapping a 25 year old 20ppg guy for Derozan

We have a bunch of future 2nd round draft picks...

Yep, we can handle giving up a first for a guy like barrett.

This could be another Siakam Situation, where we are too passive to get someone like this, then another team gets him, and he goes on to show that he definitely was worth the price.

Sure, he’s averaging 20/5/5 but he’s not efficient and he’s not a good defender.

On top of that he doesn’t have the size/length at SF that I’d want for a team that has Sabonis at C (8’6.5” standing reach and 6’10” wingspan). He essentially has the same measurements as DeRozan.

We need to get bigger & longer and improve our defense (not swap out DeRozan for a less efficient scorer who has similar size & defense).

The difference is that Siakam already proved he was a very impactful player throughout his career. Barrett has not.

Also, I think you’re misrepresenting the situation. I wouldn’t say the Kings were “too passive” when pursuing Siakam. Siakam simply didn’t want to come here and appeared to make it known that if we traded for him he wouldn’t sign an extension or resign here. That doesn’t fit the bill of “too passive” for me.
