The Sacramento Kings are in line to take on the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday in the play-in tournament. General manager Monte McNair is rumored to be on the hot seat, according to Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype. Speculation is growing that the Kings could make a change as the organization is unhappy with recent results.

Calvin Booth once went out to dinner with Kevin O’Conner, spent the whole night bitching about Bruce Brown leaving the Nuggets and talking about how his team didn’t need vets anyways because the guys he drafted were so awesome, forgot to check to make sure everything was off the record, then claimed he was misquoted when his crazy talk inevitably made it into a news story.

Monte on the other hand is notoriously wary of talking to the media.
I know which one I prefer lol

This rumor would be a 4D chess move just like the Mike Brown hiring. Make it a contest where you are somewhat grateful for the thing fans didn't want in the first place. Welcome home Vlade, haha.

The rumor was running back the Vlade and Scott Perry front office which I would honestly very much prefer to Calvin Booth, who has left the Nuggets war chest so bare that I can’t fathom how they’re going to actually improve their roster around Jokic.

Booth may not be this guy, but he does come across as you kind of brought up in your post as someone that really thinks they know it all. I don't think the Kings can afford that right now. Know it alls come in and cement things rapidly. If the Kings did that and still didn't win many games a potential rebuild could turn into a 5-6 year process, not a 2-3 year process like it could be now. If the Kings were ready to rebuild then fine. Booth seems to value young talent, that's not bad necessarily. Unless Vlade was directly consulted on the LaVine move, going with someone else right now just seems like stirring up things that don't need to be stirred up. Any GM that comes in and blasts away any Kings rebuild assets is gambling with time the Kings don't have. Roll with it unless the stars want out and if they do? Bye. If they stay on and the Kings are mediocre by mid point next season? Rebuild. If they aren't? Maybe go all in. Right now is not the time.

Fine, fine. I bought an Eddie Bauer vest two years ago which has become my go-to winter wear, so I may as well just throw my hat in the ring knowing that my credentials are already better than Booth's.

Just scrolling twitter, not sure if this is a reliable source or not. Definitely chatter. I still think if Vlade comes back it might be as an overseer type of role but who knows.

Either way, to bring back the guy who made Luke Walton a priority and picked Marvin Bagley over Doncic,.... along with PapaG and Justin Jackson. Yikes

He also picked Fox so it wasn't all bad. Now, Vlade also created a scenario that nearly destroyed Fox by putting middling vets in his way from day 1 so... The only potential positive is that if Vlade is around one would assume that would give DC a legit coaching shot. Vlade's issues were development and coaching hires. Those two things seem to be the only good things right now. It would be surprising if Vlade came in and mucked up those two things. It doesn't matter whether it's Monte, Vlade, Booth, or anyone, if someone comes in and goes all in on a 40 win team they're dumb as hell and purely gambling. Someone get Petrie as an advisor, it's time to be patient for at least one more summer. Assumption about projection is always the undoing of mediocre franchises. Go all in when the results are telling you to, not to hold onto and placate non superstar talent.

Reading more of the articles on this is they are really trying to pin lack of communication on Monte. He might have peeved off agents and whatnot with his style. Big whoop.

Checking through Ary's posts, he could be legit or just good at guessing. He might have broken the Bud firing a full day before. hmmm...

Really though, I could see lack of communication for McNair. He doesn't seem to have the personality for the head chair. Probably ideal as an assistant.

You're right about Divac for Chrisitie, as it would take care of the GM coming in from the outside after the head coach is already in place issue. The other problem, who is more qualified than McNair and wants to work for Ranadive? No idea what that pool would look like.

Who knows it could be Vlade as the president or whatever and someone like Booth under him. The thing about Vlade, much like Christie, is they can literally work with anyone. They are very pragmatic and diplomatic. They were the locker room backbone of those teams because of their personality type. This is another example of charismatic and somewhat politically savvy individuals finding the fancy of Vivek. Vivek wants to be that but he isn't. Both Vlade and Christie are good dudes but they also definitely know how to play the game and get where they want to go. Hey, if you can be that while also being trustworthy things could be a lot worse. Look at the politicians Vivek entrusted his first go around, lol. Lawyer types and agents. Yuck.

That's a positive outlook on this, I'll hand you that. Vlade being back in charge of the front office, after he agreed to "step-down" in the aftermath of how bad he was as the GM, is not something that I'm at all optimistic about.

I’m not really sure how much of that was Vlade agreeing to step down as much as it was Joe Dumars trying to force his own way back into the GM position he so obviously craved.

Either way, are you optimistic if he were to be back and in charge of the front office?

And Vlade kind of probably stepped out so there wouldn't be any issues. Vivek clearly is still very tight with Vlade. Vlade being around right around the most pivotal point this season as the Fox stuff was lit ablaze can't be a coincidence. Even if he was only there to kind of give Vivek a distraction.

Watch, Monte gets fired tomorrow and we win the play-in and we beat OKC in round 1. Would anything be more Kangz than that?

It would definitely prove that once Vivek has his mind made up it's made up, haha. Who knows what the true structure is anyway. My guess considering Vivek tends to run his organization like a startup tech company with people kind of fighting for air where only the strong survive is that there is no real one person, one say thing going on. Which explains why when things kind of tail spin under him it's almost pure luck that they find their balance.

Vlade stated publicly that he would step down, if the organization was not in a better place after a few years of him being the GM.

It wasn't and he did. To come back and be in charge of the front office after that happened, would further cement the reputation of this organization being a complete mess
