Kings Per 100 Possessions -- The Power Forwards

Bricklayer

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
basketball-reference.com has popped up with a new fun little subsection for player (and team) stats per 100 possessions. The great advantage here being that per 100 possessions corrects for both minutes played and for pace.

I thought a comparison of how our guys look vs. the rest of the league might be in order. So here are all the league's fulltime starters, with all our guys at the position added in:

Woohoo, what a crew. Of course not really fair to compare all that rabble to actual starting PFs, but obviously strong candidate for least productive crew in the league (there were a few other teams so messed up I did not put down any PF at all).

I continue to wonder what it is about Jordan Hill that I am missing. I normally like what I see. The numbers above look very solid. Every bit as solid as Kenneth Fareid or Derek Favors or Serge Ibaka without the outlandish block numbers. But he bounces around, gets inconsistent use.

I totally agree, seems like he dominates every time they play the Kings. Now to be honest I don't watch a ton of other Lakers games so maybe he just pushes around our power forwards, wouldn't surprise me.

However if you changed the list to rebounds from points he would be #1 on the list. That does seem to be his strength, very good garbage point guy too which fits. I would take him on our team in a second. I don't know enough about his defense though.

MDA has wrecked his playing career in NYK and LAL

One of those guys who's been a victim of the system he plays for in LAL. He really came into his own since he's been with the Lakers. Unfortunately, D'Antoni believes more in Wes Johnson as a PF than the actual PF Hill. I actually think Hill-Pau would have made a really solid bigs duo, but they never really got a chance to play together. Pretty much most of my Laker buddies (Yea, I don't know how I got them either) said the team drastically improved when they played on the floor together.

He's got Reggie's rebound tenacity (although not quite as good) with a more polished offensive game with a few moves and a decent enough touch around the rim. Would be happy to see him as a big sidekick to Boogie until we find the perfect defensive PF we've been searching for the past decade.

Take it for what it's worth but according to Lakers boards he is made of glass and can't handle more than 25 minutes a night. That and he is the anti-Kevin Love and holds onto rebounds a while before making the outlet pass which drives D'Antoni crazy.

It's really pretty simple...

My goodness, Josh McRoberts is a good passer. He and Jefferson seemed to fit well in Charlotte. Could he have the same effect with Boogie?

Yeah, a lot of people want to see a weak side shot blocker play at the four alongside Demarcus. I'd be more interested to see him play with another great passer... see if we could get some of that Vlade/Webber thing going offensively.

At the end of the day we're definitely not strong at pf... but sg was definitely the biggest weakness at the end of the year.

It's something interesting to consider at least. I think the Bobcats were overrated--I think they would have been 11th at best in the West--and sadly Boogie's all-NBA prospects suffered as a result. But they did manage to be 5th in the league in defensive rating, all while starting Jefferson and McRoberts down low. Boogie should be able to be a better defender than Jefferson, so could pairing him with a guy like McRoberts work?
