Kings Outlook For 07-08 Season With Current Roster!!!

#1
If all else fails and Mr. GP doesn't commit any trades or any decent FA signings, how does the current roster appeal to you.

1st: it is an interesting idea of having hawes play along side b miller being that miller is his role model, miller could teach our pup the ropes the X's and the O's of the tough tough western conference.

2Nd: I don't know about you but i' am looking forward to see mike bibby breaking out of last years slump with a stellar comeback for the 08 season, and oh yeah if ronny stays these two will coexhist simply beacause ron wants a long term contract. my opinion ron will play his best basketball for 2008. and no more off court issues, because ron gave up his rapping career or... well... he put it on hold hopefully just for the kings sake!;)

3rd: reggie thesus need i say more this guy is going to bring the house down in arco arena, and i don't mean that in a bad way he has that young flamboyant swagger we need in a coach, let the cow bells ring!

4th: Bibby,Martin,Artest,KT,Miller/hawes doesn't seem to shabby when you take a look at what each of the guys on the starting five can bring, mike can shoot the ball, martin can get to the hoop, ron can play his usual hard nose shut'em down "D", kenny can well...watch miller can spread the floor getting open look for our other guys and can make those 10-18 ft jumpers, hawes can come off the bench or start and score in the post it's safe to say if hawes is a decent player fans will go crazy, because truthfully we got a good deal for a 10 pick all and all we have a great season to look forward to, new players, new coach something has to pan out, everything will be alright kingsfans.

5th: our bench warmers! who will improve? douby has shown some flashes, garcia looks promising, one of these guys can have a kmart year, and yes it could happen kmart did it, and everyones favorite jwillams could improve as well, that being said our current roster isn't the worst in the nba but don't get me wrong its definitely not the best in the nba but it will be enough to get us along until we land that impact player we've been longing for we will have our cheers and occasional ESPN highlights, and buzzer beaters and game winners, so b4 you know it we'll be back in the mix every team goes through it, and we will too.

gO KinGs!!!

I was going to just make the obvious note that this team is not going to have the same roster so this is a pointless thread. Then I noticed the distinct odor of rah rah and excessive upbeat, and became even more sure its a pointless thread. At this same point last year I remember having these same conversations with people absolutely convinced that we were going to be championship contenders this past year. And wasn't it awful how I didn't beleive that. Yadda yadda.

So...just no. The roster as it is today would be bad and confused and fatally flawed and thrown upon a rookie coach who is not up to THAT challenge so soon. It cannot, and quite fortunately WILL not, come to that.

I will throw ouot a note BTW -- Petrie needs a rebounder. He needs one bad. He needs to set aside whatever scruples he has to get one. Ignoriring for an instant our complete patheticness inside, its hard to run wihtout the basketball (in the absence of a suepr Maestro ala Baron or Nash). Need to be able to get defensive boards to start the break.

I agree with Brick that this thread is rather pointless right now since the roster isn't even set yet. But just to play along, I think our outlook wouldn't be very good. I like Hawes a lot, but I don't think he is ready to come in and play major minutes. SAR just had knee surgery and KT is terrible. Miller is another year older and slower. I'd hope for some growth out of Cisco and Douby, but who knows how that is going to turn out, I'd also expect to see Martin become at least a little bit more well rounded. I think Bibby will have a better year then he had last year and I think Artest will play well for us again. The problem is hardly any of those pieces mesh together very well and still leave us with big holes defending and rebounding. If this roster stays the same I'd expect another lottery appearance. MAYBE if EVERYTHING goes right we could have a shot at the 7th or 8th seed. But it would take a perfect season.

thread states if roster stay's the same and bricklayer your right we need a rebounder no doubt but also i' am referring to our current roster sort of make the best out of what u got thingy, and no way last years kings was championship contenders I'am just pointing out the possibility we could face and what could be the end results, so brick b4 you bash me just make believe we are in the current situation:rolleyes:

Uptempo, there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING wrong with being positive or excited about the upcoming season. I am looking forward to many of the things you stated. We do have to be realistic and acknowledge that will not be competing for the title, but it is exciting to see that we are beginning to rebuild. We are going to have ups and downs, but overall, I share your optimism.
I do believe that we will have some changes before the season starts and am hopeful that we will see a better year than last time.!!

always as a kings fan I always try to be positive and keep arco rowdy, I don't want the greastest arena & ppl in basketball 2 fade away. we will get back on our toes thats what im basically trying to say.

With a lineup of Bibby, Martin, Artest and Miller your PF doesn't need to score so why Not Justin Williams. His scoring he did last year was nice but, his rebounds and going after rebound impressed me. It was cool to see a king actually leaping higher than the oposition and getting boards. I may be way off base but in that lineup I mentioned if we had to choose SAR, KT, or Justin to be the defensive rebounding shotblocking role player why not go with the 1 player out of the 3 that can do all 3 and still get some put back dunks with ease. SAR gets blocked if he goes up, KT has to dribble 3 times before he puts one back Justin goes from rebound straight to dunk. I am just hoping he is working on his offensive skills and court awarness as well as working on his body. He could well be the roleplaying PF we desperatly need.

Assuming we re-sign Price and Williams, we have a net roster change of: -Corliss, +Hawes. Whether or not Hawes was a good pick, I can't imagine him playing big minutes right off the bat, so I have to regard this as a roster change for the worse. All else being equal, I'd have to expect us to do no better than we did during the last month or so of last season, and probably worse.

However, that would be ignoring the coaching staff. Reggie Theus is a total unknown as a factor, as are all of his assistants. That is a big enough influence to make a difference of +/- 10 games, easily. So I guess my feeling is that we'd win somewhere between 22 and 42 games, with late lottery suckage being the most likely.

But there is zero chance of us going into the season with the roster we currently have, at very least we will sign a couple of towel wavers, so you can forget about this post now.

if we sign someone yeah thats great but we still have our same group of guys along with an additional guy, but our starting lineup is the same this is what i was referring to "the same roster" meaning bibby, artest,kt,b miller, kmart and read the post please IF IF IF not when i never said this is absolute i said "outlook" please read the dictionary please!

yea i know, just trying to stay positive hate to see the franchise in a struggle, i hope for the best with our current roster or a complete overhaul roster, it's all good with me i just love the kings period.

This roster we currently have will rank worst in the west. Thats actually a good thing considering how we want to rebuild and get young players than to just barely make it to the playoffs and get kicked out in the 1st round are worse barely get in the lottery by playing mediocre basketball like this year.

OK, I looked at the stats of two of our players. If coach gives them the minutes I am thinking they will get we can expect the following.

I did this with Martin last year. I took a compilation of his starting games, and averaged them out, and added them up to starting minutes, and was pretty close to what he averaged this year.....

Garcia (if he were to start this year) will have stats something like this;
37.5mpg - 18.2ppg - 6.3rpg - 4.1apg - 1.4bpg - 1.3spg - 1.7t/opg
6.6 of 13.6 @ 48.5% fg - 1.3 of 3.8 @ 34%3pt - 3.2 of 4.5 @ 71%ft

The above ^^^^^ are starting minutes.. Of course they will go down as the minutes go down.. But if he were to start next year expect something like that in 07-08. Maybe a little bit less fg%, and a little more ft%, but the rest of the numbers are about right.

As for Williams? We cant expect him to get 25 minutes a game like he did in the last 9, but 19.5 isn't out of the question if he is a regular bench player. this would be if KT, and SAR are more limited in their roles which I am hoping they are. SAR because of Hawes low post potential, and KT because he is a loser.

19.5mpg - 8.1ppg - 6.2rpg - 0.2apg - 0.2spg - 0.9bpg - 0.8t/opg
3.3 of 5.0 @ 66%fg - 1.4 of 3.0 @ 47% ft

Blocks will probally be a bit more, and points will probally be a bit less, along with fg%, but it's pretty much right on for JW, and 20mpg no?

One good thing is we aren't going to be chasing after the playoffs so I strongly suspect Coach Theus will give the kids as many minutes as he possibly can. I suspect we won't see a whole lot of KT and I don't think SAR will complain too much about minutes.

I hope you're right about this one!

I'm expecting 25-35 wins...And hopefully an even higher lotto pick in 08.

I hate rooting for the Kings to lose, but if the kids actually get some PT I'll be just fine rooting for them to do good without caring much about the outcome.

I would rather lose every game this season and see our youngsters play hard and get some good time in than watch a mediocre team full of old guys bumble and plod their way down the court.

And if KT gets zero minutes this year, I will be even happier.
