Kings Officially Eliminated

troosvelt

G-League
Looks like the Warriors are gonna beat the Jazz and in doing so they will officially end the run. Kings will be mathematically eliminated.

Lets go for those lottery balls !

We were mathematically eliminated last night; six games behind the final playoff spot with six games to go when they own the tiebreak = mathematically eliminated.

Besides which, we should have been playing for ping-pong balls five months ago; some of us saw this coming a mile away...

Well arguably had both the Clippers and the Warriors lost all of thier game and had we won them all we could have tied and then won on conference record.

Tonight the Warriors make it totally official

man. you know what the kings really need?

me at the shooting guard spot.

we'd be rolling in ping pong balls.

I, for one, have mixed feelings. Yes, I know we would have been killed in the playoffs but it's the end of another string for the Kings. This year has had a lot of endings.

Here's to next year and a new beginning!!!

Then, now and forever... GO KINGS!!!!!

While it is sad in one way, it was Rick that got us to the playoffs 8 consecutive years. I rather like that the era ended when Rick left. Muss does not deserve to lead us there. Hey, Maloofs, get a clue, will ya?

Great way to look at it IMO.

That was beautiful 6th! Couldn't have said that any more eloquently.:)

You will get NO arguments fom me! Well said.

Finally.

Now the hopeless romance with the postseason is over and we don't have to hear about THAT pipe dream ever again.

I'm sure Muss can muster up a power point presentation that will convince the Maloofs that the kings are still in the playoff hunt.

I'm now rooting for the Warriors and Clippers to knock out the Lakers. I'd love it if the Lakers missed the playoffs and ended up in 9th.

As for us, we're tied for 8th now (in ping pong balls). But the stupid teams around us keep losing! Dang...

Huh? What if Muss got them into the playoffs? Would he deserve it then? Did Flip Saunders "deserve it" when he got the Pistons into the playoffs after Larry Brown?

Coaches shouldn't have to live up to or live down to the legacy of the previous coach. Once Adleman left, that's it - time to move on.

People might also want to take a look at the talent that was on those rosters that made it to the playoffs instead of just saying it was Rick that got them there.

Take a look at this roster from '02-'03:

Keon Clark
Chris Webber
Vlade Divac
Peja Stojakovic
Scot Pollard
Doug Christie
Jimmy Jackson
Mike Bibby
Bobby Jackson
Damon Jones
Hedo Turkoglu

Also, Gerald Wallace and Funderburke were on the bench.

That is an incredibly deep team and most of those players were in their prime so I don't know how they couldn't win(other than Webb blowing up his knee in the playoffs).

Now that you mention it, as individuals, this roster does not impress me much (take off the purple glasses with me for a second.)
However, as a team (check that, 2 teams) this group played as an amazingly cohesive unit.

Here's to hoping that the Maloof's let GP rebuild a team instead of collect a team of all-stars by name only, and maybe the Kings will be back sooner rather than later.

Look again:

Keon Clark - part-time starter for Toronto previous season
Chris Webber - All-Star
Vlade Divac - All-Star
Peja Stojakovic - All-Star
Scot Pollard - best backup center in league
Doug Christie - All-Defensive
Jimmy Jackson - starter for Rockets the next season
Mike Bibby - future 20 ppg scorer
Bobby Jackson - starter for Memphis after trade
Damon Jones - starter for Miami
Hedo Turkoglu - starter for Orlando

Wallace - starter for Charlotte

So basically you have 11 guys who were starters (and could have started for most of the teams in the league), and the best backup center in the league at the time (Pollard). That was a ridiculously good team. I mean, Damon Jones and Gerald Wallace couldn't even get off the end of the bench. It was an embarassment of riches.

exactly how i feel...
8 years of playoff basketball. Also 8 years of heartbreak. Im ready for next year, lets do like we did in the late 90's and turn this baby around...

GO KINGS!!!!

I expect the Kings will play Artest 42 minutes a game until season end. It makes so much sense because he will be traded this offseason, so why not play him instead of the young guys, right?

Do the same for Mike. Although he would probably keep looking bad.

Greener pastures are ahead over the hill we are climbing now, we can only hope for better in the future! ;)

That's so depressing considering the talent bleed the past few years. Hopefully we can shed some big contracts and rise again!!!! ;)

I have no real problem with them playing Artest along with the kids. You can't just throw Douby, Garcia, Price and Williams out there without some semblance of order. Having one or two of the more seasoned players on the court with the kids doesn't bother me in the least.

We were able to get that talent because of the draft and free agents when they weren't all that good. Hedo, Peja, and Gerald via draft. Keon, Jim, Bobby, Damon were at best below average players when we picked them up. Webber was a young trouble maker in which we traded the franchise player for and Bibby was young and hadn't come into his own yet as a player and Vlade was a savy Vet on the downhill trend.

So at the time we got these players none had All-Star written on them but, yet now it seems we don't want to give ppl a shot becasue they aren't all-stars. for instance ppl frowned and snarled at the signing of John Salmons which had more promise at signing than Bobby, Jimmy, Damon, Keon. Sometimes they go your way sometimes they don't. The Webber trade didn't go our way and we are still paying for it and will be for a few more years baring a draft pick turning stud quickly.

is it wrong of me to feel just a tiny bit of satisfaction that we can look at management, point to this train wreck of a season, and say "this is what you put together. this is the junk product that YOU put on the floor"?????

Maybe they could have a veteran play with the kids that they actually think might be with the team next year. But that would make too much sense.

its not all the team guys, any coach with a semblance of ability might have squeezed 5 - 15 more wins out of this team. we still wouldn't be any good, but there were soooo many almost wins. quite a few.

and the nba overall has had a talent bleed. That team above mentioned would completely destroy the NBA if it were reincarnated.
