Kings notes: Thomas out for season after reinjuring toe

Kings players doing advertisements for the retail chain Good Feet is nothing new, with everyone from Peja Stojakovic to Kevin Martin pitching the slogan of "Everybody needs good feet!"

But that's more of a reality than a motto these days for the Kings, whose foot problems reached a new low when forward Kenny Thomas was lost for the season Tuesday night at Arco Arena.

The Kings already were without Corliss Williamson for the second consecutive game because of a sore right heel, and the reserve forward did not travel with the team for tonight's game at Denver.

Thomas missed five games in March after suffering a chip fracture in his left big toe, only to return and have the foot stepped on twice Sunday against the Los Angeles Lakers, forcing him out again. Before facing Dallas on Tuesday, he said he wasn't sure if his toe still was fractured.

He played nonetheless, then left in the fourth quarter after his toe was reinjured again. An X-ray revealed the left toe fracture, and Thomas is out four to six weeks.

Center Brad Miller also has had foot problems, tearing a tendon in November and dealing with tissue inflammation long after he returned.

Colangelo on commitment
-- When Team USA managing director Jerry Colangelo heard that LeBron James was "50-50" on whether to play in the FIBA Americas Championship Olympic qualifying tournament, he responded Tuesday by making it clear that such absences were not allowed. Especially unexplained absences.

It wasn't, however, the first time Colangelo had made that clear. Colangelo had the same stance in late February regarding Miller before the two resolved the matter.

Miller had said he would be missing the summer activities in Las Vegas for family reasons. But before Colangelo met with Miller and approved his absence, he had said he was not aware of the reasons and that Miller was putting himself in danger of no longer being welcome on the team.

Betting Bibby
-- If the alma mater wasn't going to be in the running, what better way to enjoy the rest of March Madness than by winning some money?

Such was the case for Mike Bibby. He lost a bet with Miller when his Arizona squad fell to Miller's boys from Purdue early. But Bibby made amends by winning a 14-person pool, thanks to Florida's national title victory Monday.

I'd like to know why the heck Muss has Brad playing at all at this point. REst and/or surgery area all that's going to help that foot.

I had the same "condition" that Brad has. Plantar Facitis is something rough to go through. I am an elite level Marathon runner and I had it for 14 months. I tried: icing, stretching, "the boot", "the sock", the golf ball routine, the frozen water bottle, the tennis ball, resting, shoe inserts, massage, injections, you name it. Surgery has about a 50% success rate on this condition with the downside of possible permanent damage. Rest will take away the inflammation but not the problem. I finally got custom orthodics from a podiatrist and it did the trick. I wish I had done it a year ago. I am finally running pain free. They cost but I am sure Brad and the Kings can afford it.

I guess we are keeping Miller after all due to his health issues which look to be more long term then short. I don't mind it though, Miller sure isn't an elite shot blocker, rebounder, defender...but the guy sets some mean screens, hits long shots, can play D in spots, and is a great passer/assist guy. When I looked at the box score of last game against Dallas and saw Miller had 7 assists to Bibby's 3, I was happy for Miller, but really disappointed in our "mega buck/premier PG" only having 3 assists. Now that is bad! :(

Maybe with Miller not 100% we can hopefully play him fewer minutes so he can let the foot heal and actually make Potapenko get off his butt and actually earn his $ this late in the season. In almost 1-1/4 season, how much has he actually played??? I know not much at all. I say rest Miller as well as Thomas and please try to move Thomas in the off-season...I think we all here want to see that happen...hopefully we have seen the last of Kenny Thomas in a Kings uniform!!! Sorry, I know he is a current King, but he is obviously a huge anchor around our neck!

M&M - I've had it before as well. I run for fun/fitness; not the serious business you are into :). It is very painful and bothersome. The only thing that helped me was weeks of rest, which of course drives a runner crazy!

I've heard NBA'ers deal with it different ways. I think Peja had it and went to Europe for treatment.

Sounds like you are 1 small step away from being the next spokesman for "The Good Feet Store." :)

Same here. I actually continued to work, but when required to be on my feet I just arranged for a chair to put a knee on (to keep my foot up).

And I just don't get all you silly running types. No bear chasing me, I ain't running. ;)

I do like things like tennis and basketball, though, and played soccer for something like 11 years in school. Don't know why, since running just doesn't do it for me. I guess that's why I liked playing goalie.
