SAN ANTONIO - The Kings regained the services of power forward Chris Webber and lost small forward Peja Stojakovic for Thursday night's game against the San Antonio Spurs.
Stojakovic had started all 40 games but decided to rest his ailing back he originally injured Dec. 31 in a road game against the Utah Jazz. Webber sprained his right ankle early in Sunday night's 103-73 loss at Arco Arena to the Spurs and missed Tuesday night's 103-83 victory over the New Jersey Nets.
"I'm going to sit," said Stojakovic, who did not participate in the team's morning shootaround but did receive treatment in the team's locker room. "I want to see if this helps. It's been (almost four weeks) since I hurt it, and it's not getting any better. It won't go away. Instead of getting better, it's getting worse.
"I can't take the pain. I couldn't hardly brush my teeth (Thursday morning)."
Stojakovic said an MRI test Monday showed inflammation in his lower back, but nothing else. He said he's experienced back spasms before, but not for this long.
"I've had them maybe for a week," said Stojakovic, "but not as long as this."
Stojakovic said he would wait to see how he felt in Houston tonight before he decided whether to play against the Rockets.
Meanwhile, Webber had few words while addressing his decision to leave Sunday's game before its conclusion.
"I was hurt all last year, and I don't like sitting behind the bench," said Webber, who missed 54 games last season because of knee rehabilitation and an eight-game league-mandated suspension.
Evans shoots before game - Maurice Evans wanted to keep playing through his strained groin injury just as he did last Sunday night when it occurred.
"I'm pretty sure I hurt it in the first half," said Evans, who will miss the next three games before being eligible to return. He was placed on the injured list before Tuesday night's game. "I just kept playing."
Evans said Thursday was the first day he could walk pain-free since the injury.

So much for the theory Pedja sat out because of an impending trade.
