Hall of Famer
that was close !

Another classic took place on February 23rd 2001 when Kings won the triple overtime game in Toronto 119-118 to improve to 36-17 for the season. The best way to describe that game is - WOW. 33 lead changes and 26 ties in one game is says it all. Pedja lead Kings with 39/12/3/2, Vlade had 25/6/3/2bl, DC had 20/7/3/3, Pollard had 19/17/2/4bl. Fundenburke had 7/6 off the bench.

Peja Stojakovic scored a career-high 39 points and drilled the go-ahead 3-pointer with 45 seconds to play in triple-overtime as the exhausted Sacramento Kings pulled out a 119-118 triumph over the Toronto Raptors. Stojakovic hit 14-of-29 shots, including 6-of-10 3-pointers -- none more important than the 23-footer from the right corner that put Sacramento ahead to stay.

"It was a set play," he said. "I saw Jerome Wiliams on me, but I was too tired to think about it. I just let it go. I was so happy to see it go down, so we could finally win the game."

"It was a terrific game," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "Both teams had chances to win. We are fortunate they missed the last shot."

"It was an excellent game, if you were watching," Divac said. "But a tough game to play. As a team we played well and played good defense in crunch time."

"Scot Pollard was terrific," Adelman said. "He was so good all night long. Our guys executed the last shot to perfection. It was a great win for us. I'm very proud of the guys."

"It was good for us to play this well in the second game of a back-to-back," Christie said. "Once the crowd started booing (me), the game began to mean more to me than it did at the beginning."

Since Kings run out opportunities to play Celtics - they dropped the 1st game on this road trip to drop to 23-30 for the season which is still only 2 games out of the 8th PO spot giving us false hope and prolonging our misery. Kings are 5-4 in February with 4 games left, with 3 of them being on the road. So we can say that Kings have been playing .500 ball which is close to their talent level. It would probably be somewhat better if we had a coach but since we don't - it is what it is.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
You might be asking Yourself - why is this insane masochistic person still wasting time writing this threads while no one really want to watch the games anymore - I don't know either. Looks like about 2/3 of the Kings fans were far more interested about the trade deadline yesterday than the game later that evening/afternoon. It has apparently become that bad. With 29 games left - things will get worse, people more lethargic but some of us will still be here cheering for team to win but being irrelevant to losses. It is a win - win situation and it finally isn't a health hazard anymore. Oh, and we do play Lakers 3 more times.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
So the trade deadline passed and with it our hopes to finally find out where we stand in terms on the franchise politics. So, nothing happened which isn't neither bad nor good but it does tell us that Kings still do want to make the 8th PO spot. Considering how poor the competition for it might be right now - we would be in there if it wasn't for our visionary coach "Muss the great" who took upon himself to make sure that we stay in the place called mediocrity for some time to come. In one season as our "coach" - he has broken all possible records in the almost winning category. And if he was nominated for academy awards - he would almost win every single one despite never playing in a single movie. He is that talented.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Mike Bibby is still here - for now mostly due to lack of satisfying offers but nevertheless. He isn't going to opt out so he will be traded this summer - or maybe not. Maybe everyone will pretend that it never happened. It is a business - right ? Whether this whole disaster will wake up Bibby and make him play better or whether it won't change a damn thing - it remains to be seen. Either way - things will never be the same and the time to move on is near. When it is all said and done Mike Bibby will be in much better shape then the Kings. Sweet irony.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
According to sources in my head Kings are 8-16 in games that were almost won. We could have been 16-8 just as well if we has a coach or so. That would put us hypothetically one game above .500 fighting for the 6th PO spot or so - lying to ourselves for yet another season pretending that we are close to whatever. People say that everything happens for a reason which I stopped believing after Horry hit that damn three - but hypothetically speaking - hiring Muss could end up being the best thing that has happen to the kings since well - hiring Adelman. If Muss incompetence doesn't open eyes in some people - nothing will. Keep it up Muss in a hope that one of those days - You will get to coach the Lakers too.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Watching the last couple games - it becomes clear that Kevin Martin is the valedictorian student in the Mike Bibby school of defense, which makes our back court the worst defensive BC in the history of Western civilization. Now, Mike is old, slow and lazy and that won't change - but Kevin is athletic and very quick which should be enough for at least a mediocre defender. Him becoming a DC clone is a long shot but we will need him to step up in the future. Maybe if he would watch Ron more instead of Mike - that would benefit him and all of us. Kevin is having a great season but his defense will have to improve drastically. He should become as "good" defender as Pedja did - easily and hopefully soon
------------------------------------------------------------------------
On the other hand - KT is a mystery to me. He must have kidnapped people in high places because I can't think of one rational reason why he is getting any PT not to mention starting job. Now - I understand that his competition for the spot is as good as this season's draft class. He hasn't had a decent game in a long time. He makes me wish - we had Popeye Jones on out team. I would rather watch Bo Outlaw shoot FTs than KT missing layups. Hell even Previs Ellison wasn't this bad - right ?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I tried to do a little bit more, but Coach just stopped going to me," Artest said.

So not only is Muss our "coach" but he is also the best Wizards defender:eek: Ron will make a great coach one day. Come on Ron - what was he supposed to do ? You were winning the game - he had to stop You. He doesn't go to Kevin anymore and now if Mike starts playing better - what will happen then ? Muss will continue to try to find a cold hand to go to down the stretch and even if Brad hits his threes - it won't discourage him. There has to be someone on that roster who will screw up when called upon. I wonder what Mo Taylor is doing these days ?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Coach's corner is presented by our 3 new sponsors: Everclear, Microsoft and Suicide hot line. Did I mention lately how much he sucks ? I might have. Remember the good old times when Kings used to have set plays out of time outs or for the last couple possessions ? Feels like it was 100 years ago. Maybe it was. Muss set plays consist of offensive fouls, turnovers and desperation threes. Other than that he did great since we almost won another one.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kings tried hard and ALMOST came back from -17 to win the game but they yet again failed due to a pathetic performance in the last minute. In the first half there was Arenas vs. Artest show and nothing in between. Later on Bibby used theory of big numbers and joined the party. Unfortunately so did Butler and Stevenson. It was also a clash of 2 most pathetic front lines that I have seen in a long time with the exception of Brad Miller who was decent. We missed 9 FTs and lost by 3. I wonder if anything similar ever happened to us before ?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
AWARD TIME

TDM goes to Stevenson which was predicted. He is a guard and that we can't stop.
LW-VC award went to Scorless who is allowed to have a bad game which doesn't excuse him
JHA award went to a hall of famer in this category - Kenny Thomas. God why doe he have to wear this uniform ?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nets are next so we have to expect a close game between 2 of the best in almost winning business. Hell, if I know which team is going to prevail (almost win). It is a back to back for us but Nets haven't been playing well. Kidd is injured but that never really meant anything. Since we don't need any wins it is a win - win situation and the game will be exciting.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mike - again please
Ron - say hi to Vince
Brad - good luck with Moore
Kevin - play some D
-----------------------------------------------------
Rest - awful and not mateen worthy
------------------------------------------------------
Muss - who knows, who cares ?
---------------------------------------------------------
Nets have been sucking for a while but so have we. They will be missing 3 key players which makes the extremely dangerous. Carter will get his - FGAs. Moore will dominate. Marcuse Williams will win the TDM award but Moore and Nachbar will make it exciting. LW-VC award is reserved for KT unless he goes for JHA award again. I don't care who wins.

Really it's a pick your poison type of position.

Excellent job once again, piksi. BTW - you keep doing this because you know we love it....well, most of us do. Thanks for your dedication!

piski- great job as usual. :D

The only thing I wonder is where you're able to find all the info on the old games.

Wow...Kidd, Jefferson, and Kristic out....and I still see the Kings blowing this game. It's hard to imagine the Kings have dropped off so much from just a couple seasons ago.

Mark Jackson made a GREAT POINT. He was saying "There's a point where you can inspire the team, or you're going through the motions. This team is going through the motions. They just want to finish the season. They look at that too easy (Carter goes right down the lane) and on offense it's just first shot available (Bibby jacks up a 20 footer with 18 left on the clock). Eric Musselman should be embarassed. This is more than X's and O's. Can you inspire your team? No disrespect to Eric Musselman but this team is just trying to finish out the season"

pretty good analysis by mark jackson(i think?). the teams body language. just wanting to finish out the season. mussleman's inability to inspire. coaching being more than x's and o's.
