It's funny how one bad bounce is the difference between... "we lost to a depleted Mavs team and Fox doesn't make his teammates better" and "Ja who"? Fox tonight was aggressive, efficient, effective on defense, and virtually mistake free. He answered his critics on every level but instead we're going to hear about how we still lost. I pray for a better storyline next season.
It's really tired. If Haliburton isn't on a winning team when he gets paid we'll see what all the geniuses say too, though thankfully they won't be here.

I think even someone like a Kyle Kuzma would be a good get
Even a Bobby Portis signing would do wonders for the Kings (no offense to Trey Lyles, whose super cheap team option for next season is looking better and better by the game).

I don't think there is any way we could get Portis.

Yep. We had some momentum with the Collison/Gay/Cousins squad too until George Karl stepped in and blew it all up. If we mess up this next head coaching hire that's probably the end of our chances of winning with this current group too.

Seeing as the FO’s first choice has the TWolves back in the playoffs (along with an upgraded roster) I have some trust in them to find the right person

I actually trust Monte to get it right. I haven't had any faith the team would make a good coaching hire since they canned Muss after the first season. Malone was a good hire, and Joerger could have been. Which means that the first coach a new regime brought in was pretty ok, but impatience did them in. Monte has the benefit of assembling at least a good bones build before picking his first coach so we'll see.
I think that, as long as Vivek stays out of Monte's way, the playoff drought ends next season.

If Vivek and his crew do what they have been known to do, we'll have another rebuild on our hands and it won't matter that we traded Tyrese for Sabonis anyways.

The front office blew it up, when they fired Malone

Yeah, I was a big fan of Malone right from his first interview and I believed then and continue to believe that there was no basketball-related reason to fire him. They probably could have salvaged things with a decent coaching hire though. I can't imagine a worse pairing of coach and franchise player than George Karl and DeMarcus Cousins.

They just lost to a Dallas team with Doncic, THJ, Maxi missing the game.....Meaning Fox and OX lost to Brunson and Dinwiddie......
Well, Fox missed a free throw and had his first turnover at a critical time.

I don't think he made his teammates better today. But yeah 44pt meaningless points in a loss against a Dallas team without Doncic.

At least he is increasing his trade value. ;)

Malone should still be the coach of this team, right now. You can't expect buffoons to make a good hire, after they fired the guy they lucked into

So was Dinwiddie.

He was. Their lack of size is going to make them matchup dependent (they're screwed whenever they play Denver) but Dinwiddie, Brunson, and Doncic are a lot to handle on the perimeter and they have the shooters around them to punish teams for double-teaming.

He's got a player option for next year but it's waaaaaaay under market and the Bucks don't necessarily have the cap space to work out a richer deal without them having to move bigger pieces (hence them trading Donte for half a season of Serge Ibaka so they wouldn't be on the books for his RFA deal).

The Kings have the full MLE to work with this season and enough flexibility to get more room if they'd like. Portis is probably more expensive than the MLE but we'll have to see.

This isn't the strongest free agent class to work with.

I don't think that a bounce would have made any difference.

A legit play off team should have won this game by 20pt.

I think he's valuable enough to the Bucks they'd figure out a way to keep him happy. I guess we'll see how the Bucks do in the postseason since it's hard not to think they had an incredible run of good fortune with their matchups last year, but hard to imagine leaving the Bucks for the Kings too.

Dwight Powell has carved out an unlikely for the most part successful NBA career while not being able to shoot or defend and being grossly undersized I'm impressed tbh by that.

I never understood why the hell Carlisle kept him in the starting lineup like he did but Powell's now outlasted him and is still starting for the Mavs to the point that they unloaded Porzingis and kept him starting so there must be something I'm not seeing.

The thing is that you can clearly see the bones of a good team now whereas before the trade things were still looking incredibly far off.
Fox and Sabonis are studs.
Barnes is good but randomly fades like he did today.
Mitchell and DDV are the type of defensive dogs this team has needed for years.
Hell, Lyles has shown himself to be a useful offensive piece to play off of Sabonis in a limited role.

You just get them one more guy capable of not melting like a creamsicle and the team's in good shape next season.

Oh, and we need a new coach.

I seriously don't think you can underestimate how much change the team has gone through mid-season. The team literally has 3 dudes still playing who were in the rotation game 1 (4 with Holmes just coming back) and I imagine virtually nothing in their offensive sets translates to playing with a Sabonis archetype. We've seen the offensive bones look amazing at times, but just seriously undisciplined. I imagine an off-season and training camp fixes a good chunk of those problems. Hasn't helped Gentry has looked totally overmatched with handling this rotation.

Fox-Barnes-Sabonis are pretty clear build-arounds

DDV or Mitchell should just be starting at this point over Holiday, but in general, just excellent defensive archetypes the Kings haven't had in forever. Pretty clearly 25-30 MPG type role players.

Holiday-Lyles need to be 8th-9th man types, but should be useful in 12-15 MPG type roles

So basically:

Fox || Mitchell
DDV || ??? (TD?)
??? || Holiday
Barnes || Lyles
Sabonis || Holmes (or Jones/Queta if he's traded)

Kings need a 3/4 flex wing and a bench scorer/4th option, but I do think the bones are here to be good with the right coach pick. Really, that's what Monte has to nail this off-season more than anything.

The guy is way worse imo than Kleber (when healthy) and he's managed to beat him out as well.

I honestly think he's worse than Boban too. I mean, I understand why the Mavs can't play Boban too often while they can play Powell but from a pure basketball skill standpoint, I'd take Boban 10 times out of 10.

Dwight Powell is basically a SF with zero skills it's amazing what he's achieved.

I wouldn't say that. In order to be a good team, you have to start proving you can beat teams you're much better on paper than. Something the Kings have failed to do for 16 years.

Now the value of wins this year specifically? Sure, can debate that. But being winning vs bad teams is the first step to becoming a playoff team.

Kings lost though they should’ve won. It was basically the Kings against a bunch of average, at best, NBA players. Yhall saying Fox had a good game. Dude took 31 shots to get 44 points. THIRTY ONE shots. At what point will yhall get over the raw stats based on volume and evaluate him on whether he helps his team win.

44 points on 31 shots is good dude, jesus christ. You can't pretend to be a math guy and still have a take like this.

Also, go ahead and tell the class why Fox lost the Kings this game.
