[Rumor] Kings looking to ‘move up’ in the draft

I hope its not for Carter

If Perry throws one of the few players that checks his boxes, is on valuable controlled rookie contract, that was a lottery pick in a deeper draft than this one, and is going to have less value because he was injured most of last season, then at least then we'll know this is going to probably crash and burn anyway, lol. That means Perry is going for it, doesn't understand asset management, and is going to relinquish value while destroying his cap and so on. In a worst case it'll take 2-3 years for him to tear it down just for someone else to start back over.

I know. I am on the keep carter bandwagon.
Just listened to James Ham who said that they are hearing chatter, and Devin Carter is involved in most of the chatter.

I can see it, teams have been trying to steal him from the day he was drafted. There's probably as reason for it. Also, he's literally the lone 1st round level young talent the Kings have so what are the other options for teams?

But what if it’s just because his salary is there to help work out a Lavine for Bilal deal???

Ya I wish

Just saw the video if we’re trading Carter I’d do it for a Garland or Murphy two guys that can still get even better

Yeah, but it wouldn't just be Carter. It would be a combination of future asset destruction that yields an even worse defensive team. Bad, bad sign. Murphy at least would make some sense in terms of directive. If they trade for Garland then the process begins of moving out pieces until you find a Mobley and Spida. See, that's the issue, busting it all out for a teams 3rd wheel is what keeps teams exactly where the Kings have been for as long as they have been. If Perry speaks defense and they trot out Garland, LaVine, and Domas then insanity clearly reigns, lol.

Rihanna Jake said that Kings checked in on Jrue Holiday but that other teams had better offers out for him.

We are about to trade Devin after barely getting a look at him only to watch him be a big factor for another team in the playoffs next year aren’t we. If Perry packages Keegan or Carter for anything other than an all star caliber player he isn’t serious about defense.

And even if he does get an all star and the Kings are still mediocre in a tough West then this is already off the rails in the worst way. The Kings would continue the legacy of trying to move that mountain with their face then having to take that 2-3 year walk of shame back to the starting point. This time possibly with half of their future picks to restock with. Last time one seemingly little move in the form of a pick swap probably cost them Jayson Tatum. If that's true about Holiday the only guess I can make is they asked for Carter and got rebuffed. Remember Carter is a fan fav there and blistered the C's at home.

Ya the Lavine/Sabonis combo really hurts trying to build this team. As for Carter I’d still trade him for Murphy good wing defender giving you 20-5-3 on good shooting splits. Lavine, Murphy, Keegan, and Sabonis could be a very good team and a good enough defensive team to make noise in the playoffs. Would still need a PG however, try snagging Chris Paul who wants to be close to family in LA.

Yeah, Murphy would make more sense. Then it comes down to how valuable a Keegan/Murphy combo is. You look at the two teams in the finals and Carter projects to be the type of player you find on those teams. Not really anyone else on the Kings TBH.

Keegan would as well and in this scenario Murphy too. I love a Keegan/Murphy combo especially of Keegan can improve offensively

Maybe Keegan could but neither team has a combo F movement shooter like Keegan let alone two although Murphy has shown pretty decent off the ball ability in recent years. The Pacers have Nesmith, Toppin, and Siakam and the Thunder have basically a huge guard in Jalen Williams and run guards at SF.

I think one of the flaws in Monte’s drafting is he overvalued on-ball defenders but average scorers with his lottery picks. If you’re going to draft for defense in a lottery pick, he better have at least the potential to be a premium scorer. Mitchell was severely flawed offensively. Keegan is not strong with the ball and has trouble outside of being a 1-2 dribble max shooter. Carter is too early to tell and hopefully can be a Holiday/White/Dort type but those guys were not lottery players.

Draft after draft has proven you can get premium defenders mid first round and later. Maybe that’s the angle Perry is going for. Find playmakers first, then draft for defense via late 1st/2nd rd picks

True, but those players are reasons why others in a similar archetype probably might be not to mention that every draft isn't the same in terms of depth. Also Monte, or whoever made those calls, was largely going off of droppers if he could. He didn't want Davion, he wanted Wagner. Wagner wasn't there. Carter was considered a top 7 pick at one point once he dominated the athletic tests but he dropped, which we now know was probably because of the shoulder. League trends change over time and thus value. It's like how 15-20 years ago teams were desperate to find the next KG and were scouring through picks to find any player over 6'10" with a decent handle. Teams really reached on those types one being Anthony Randolph and continuously let gaurantees in the form of players like those who can defend slip through. The last few seasons teams are starting to kind of shift back and move towards the known rather than just potential.

id imagine all three of those guys would go top ten in a re-draft though, for sure White and Holiday.
Yep, but that’s cuz they’re not only all-NBA defenders they’re also some of the most efficient scorers out there that they developed into. White 45/37/85 + 5 assists, and Holiday 46/37/85 + 6 assists. That combination of defense and offensive ability is rare. If Carter even sniffs that that would be a home run, but odds are unlikely. Mitchell simply never had the offensive skillset

Yeh it’s hard to say on Devin but i think he could be super valuable either as a plus starter if he hits his ceiling or Miles McBride type if he ends up a bench piece.
