Kings in mix for Iguodala

Yikes. Would rather over pay for a guy entering his prime than leaving it. Fingers crossed that there is a bigger plan that I can't figure out yet.

i hope we get iggy..then come to our senses on reke...a reke/bmac/dre perimeter defense would be sick...bt if given the choice reke b4 dre

Actually, I'm pretty certain we can't do that due to Tyreke's cap hold (as in sign Iggy first and then resign Reke).

I capitalized the "IF." There has been a lot of discussion how we could free cap space to sign Iggy even with the cap hold on Tyreke.

maybe we are hard at iggy because we know we have til the 13th to work with Reke. If we don't make move on iggy now the chance is gone. got 11 days to trade away thornton or amnesty slamons. or both.

my thoughts as well. i have NO problem with signing Iguodala, love the guy, but we BETTER be planning to match Tyreke's offer too

Right

I hope there's more to this story. Maybe iggy is our priority because we're sure Evans doesn't wanna leave, and we know we plan to match

hope so. because a lineup of Tyreke/McLemore/Iguodala/Free agent or Patterson/Cousins should put some fear into some other teams. and our perimiter defense could potentially be great

Guys I am valuable. I searched and searched and found the answer. Tyreke does have a cap hold BUT for now until we match or sign it is only for the qualifying offer. so the cap hold would be 6.9 mil not 11. unless there is a pending offer sheet. for now there cannot be a real pending offer sheet until the 10th. on that day the cap hold becomes what ever the first year of that offer sheet is.

guys im feeling high from all this excitement... is this real life?

It's a little odd isn't it. Iggy is looking for a long contract and I don't know if money is a primary motive. I also think Tyreke would try to cooperate to get Iggy, er, Andre although I understand that isn't human nature. (It's also wishful thinking) I wonder if he is interested in playing with a team that has upgraded by adding a McLemore and an Iguodola. I must admit that for me, money is not the be all, end all, and winning might make up for a little less money especially if is JUST a million. I'd rather look forward to going to work and sacrifice a little money. I doubt if the last four years have been fun for Tyreke. Can't believe what these guys fuss over. A million here, a million there.

now if we could talk iggy into a back loaded contract with first year starting at 7 mil then we could indeed then go over the cap to sign tyreke because reported the pelicans offer sheet was 7/7/15/15 so only a 7 mil cap hold on tyreke either way. what is salmons salary again guys??????? you are correct if you said 7.5 mil

That's not correct. Here's the relevant quote from Larry Coon (Link)

A restricted free agent is included in team salary by the greatest of:

His free agent amount (as defined in the table above)
The amount of his qualifying offer (see question number 43)

Tyreke's free agent amount ($13M) is greater than his QO (~$7M) so the $13M number prevails.

you could right now with the cap hold of tyreke. amnesty Salmons and sign AI starting at 14 mil then turn around and sign tyreke at 11. Still be only 3 mil over the cap.

but the pelican offer sheet is reported to be loaded in the back with 7 mil as the first year. with an offer sheet you go by the first year of the contract.

Even still you amnesty salmons you still make it by a hair.

Yes, and it isn't crucial how much we go over the cap now that Vivek holds the check book. It's important but not as much. I think Iggy will settle for less than $14 mil.

if he does and its about 13 mil and we can amnesty salmons and be very close to AI's 13 mil and tyrekes 11 mil. very close is there a % you can go over the cap with a FA signing? we would be within 2-3 mil

In terms of signing Iguodala it doesn't matter how the contract is laid out, only what Tyreke's cap hold is.

Besides, if the plan really were to sign Iguodala AND Evans and Tyreke was on board with that then there's no reason for Tyreke to even bother signing the NO offer sheet. Just sign with the Kings for similar overall numbers.

That said I can't see much of a way for the Pelicans to really "poison" the contract. The are limited to their available caproom this year with max 4.5 raises. They can have crazy incentives but then they'd have to be willing to pay them.

would it be smarter to amnesty Thornton?? we would only be on the books for the difference of the contracted amount 8.1 this year and 8.6 next year. Bidding could get high with him maybe in the 6-7 mil range and we would only be on books for the difference so 3-4 mil over 2 years vs. salmons 7.5 he would have to sign for 4.5 for us to be on the books for 3 mil for 1 year. gamble on thornton and let Salmons expire. 16 mil off the books next year.
