Kings in HD on Comcast

I have everything I need to see the Kings in HD. I have a HD TV, I have a Direct TV HD Receiver with paid HD service, and it says the Kings in HD, but my TV says otherwise.

What do I need to do? Or is this false advertising.

I just moved from Sac to SLC in the Summer so it may have changed but last year only like 1/5th (or less) of the games were in HD. Also, CSNs HD signal isn't all that great either. Better then SD but not as clear as say ABC HD.

Even those 1/5 games that are advertised as HD are not. It's not the quality, its the existance of it period.

I believe it is only HD for Comcast cable customers. I have Dish and it's not in HD or it's the worst HD I've ever seen. The TNT HD is good and I think a step above ESPN.

Do you know that you have to go to a different channel to see it in HD, around here, the regular comcast is on channel 34, but when a game is on in HD it comes on like on channel 920 or something, jsut for house party and the game, then the channel goes back to being nothing. If you are watching the regular channel, it doesn't come in in HD.

I have HD on Comcast and watching the Kings in HD is pretty cool. The channel is 925.

Directv does not offer CSNW in HD. Only Chicago and Mid-Atlantic. http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPage.jsp?assetId=2300004

The only way to see CSNW HD games is if you have Comcast cable.

Also. Even if they did have it it would never be on the same channels number as regular channel. HD channels are always assigned a different channel number since technically they are a separate channel/feed.

Not on the local channels 3, 10, 13, 40. Those are same channel HD.

That is disappointing that only Comcast subscribers get Kings in HD. Oh Well. That answers my question.

I think its a Comcast thing. ch. 725 here in Vacaville for me.

Not true, i have Surewest cable and they have CSN in HD, it looks great too, better than ESPN and TNTs HD.

SHould have left it at not available through Directv :) It is available to any provider if they want to pay up Comcast to carry it.

if you open up the guide that shows all the listings its not listed as CSN HD or anything like that. on Comcast i think its HDSE

Last year, every Comcast Kings game was in HD. I just presumed it would be this year also but every now and then, it's only on Channel 34 in SD. I have no idea how they choose which will be HD and which ones won't. It's frustrating.

Comcast has a seporate channel for each station broadcasting in HD. That goes for Networks also. If you turn on Channel 3 (NBC), it won't be HD. You have to turn to Channel 903.

When Comcast broadcasts the game in HD, it looks pretty darn good to me so I don't have any complaints in that department.

There is no HD DVR available for Surewest, correct? I know Surewest doesn't support the TiVo Series 3.

Not yet, when i got my HD setup the cable guy said its coming soon, i guess ill wait and see, its been about 9 months.

Also, aren't only the home games televised on CSN HD? I noticed that at the beginning of the season.

Yea just the home games in HD, kinda weak, not sure why they do that.

DirecTV is going to have 100 new HD channels by the end of 2007, and one of the new channels, I believe, is the CSN channel that shows the Kings games. So, maybe the DirecTV customers can see the next season in HD.

100!? Jeez, im gonna have to get that if that happens.

Dont know if this is true, but i heard Cable has better HD image than Satellite, i would imagine its true, my sister has a smaller, newer TV and my HD still looks better, she has DirecTV.

I don't know about cable, but Dish has better HD resolution that DirecTV. In fact, DirecTV was being sued over it:

http://www.tvpredictions.com/directvlawsuit092006.htm

From a HD forum: HD Lite is the term used for 1280x1080 resolution DirecTV resizes 1920x1080 programs too. From the article "The complaint alleges that DIRECTV engaged in unlawful or fraudulent business practices by lowering its HDTV picture resolution in September 2004."

I think Dish is putting out 1080i at 1440x1080. Still not 1920x1080, but better....

Two things to be aware of regarding Kings broadcast and HD format:

1. There are 3 levels of HD display: 480, 780 and 1080 pixel (horizontal) resolution. The 480 and 780 fit pretty well on any TV set. In HD the 480 is slightly better than normal TV. A lot of initial broadcasts are in 480 HD format. Less in 780 and few in 1080. The Kings and Comcast may only be using 480 or 780 format. The 1080 format is, as we say here, better than reality or better than being there. Absolutely Fabulous (to plagerize a Brit TV soap) once you see it. On Direct TV go to channels 72-79 as they are 1080 HD all the time.

2. There are two ways to receive HD TV: (1) cable or Satellite, or (2) off air, meaning with a special HD TV antenna up on your roof. But for that to woek you need a very good or clear line-of-sight path to the transmitter.

Down here in Surf City I have both (satellite and off air antennas) but we only have one local channel that broadcasts occasionally in HD format for which I need the HD antenna. However, they will broadcast in HD format from the local antenna but when I go look at them on the Satellite feed it is in the 4:3 standard TV format. That could be the lower resolution HD converted to the 4:3 format from teh 16:9 format of HD.

Fortunately, my antenna on our roof looks directly at the TV transmitter up on Mt. Umunumm some 2,000 ft higher than our house.

In Sacto, everything is flat and at sea level for the most part. But there are lots of buildings that can be in the way between you and the antenna. Plus the whole HD offair thing is really new. So stick with the DirectTV (or cable channels) and in DirectTV go to channels 72-79 which are 1080 max HD TV format all the time. You won't see a Kings game there but maybe once or twice a year.

This techno babble may or may not answer your question but will give a little info on the somewhat misleading aspects of HD. ;)

Don't expect any channels to broadcast in 1080p any time soon. They will be sticking with 720p and 1080i for a while.

Yea thats what i figured, i used to be really up to date and knowledged on all this stuff, but i havnt been keeping up with it lately.

WOW!!! Kings-Spurs in HDTV

Well, this must be one of the two times this year but game tonight is on TNT and in HDTV. So you all with HD TV sets and receivers will get a chance to see 1080 resolution. :D
