Greetings, fellow Kings fans, from the land of trees and snow...

Yep, we have snow! Not a lot - yet - but we do have snow. I'm guessing people like TruckeeKingsFan and Kingzrool have seen a lot more of it than I have. How do I know? By the number of trips the snowplow has made past my house already. They plow from a little below my house - 4000 ft. elevation - to LaPorte at a little over 5,000 ft. and then back. I heard the plow last night and I've seen it twice this morning, which means it's taking them a bit of work at the upper end of the loop.

Great news for everyone who either skis, or makes a living from people who ski, etc.

First of all, here's what Scott Howard-Cooper had to say in today's Bee about the matchup tonight:

KINGS OUTLOOK
They had low-scoring Miami on Thursday and now face another team that struggles offensively. The Kings had better take advantage of someone soon. The four games after tonight are against Golden State, Utah, Phoenix (on the second night of a back-to-back) and Dallas, and each can post big numbers. The Kings' offensive inadequacies, meanwhile, have reached the point that they were 27th in the league in shooting entering Saturday.

HAWKS OUTLOOK
After winning 26 games in 2005-06 and finishing tied for last place in the Southeast Division with two-year-old Charlotte, the Hawks are on early pace for 36 victories. That would be their most since 1997-98, the days of Steve Smith, Dikembe Mutombo and Mookie Blaylock. The scoring of Joe Johnson, a solid defense and a schedule that kept them out of the deep waters of the Western Conference until this five-game trip have sparked the improvement. They even have reason to be encouraged with the current showing of splitting the first four contests of the West swing, with wins over the Trail Blazers and Nuggets and losses to the SuperSonics and Lakers.

KEY MATCHUP
Ron Artest vs. Johnson -- The Hawks are weak offensively, so shutting down their one weapon is crucial. Johnson has led or tied for the team lead in scoring in all 18 games.

PROBABLE STARTERS - KINGS - Bibby, Martin, Artest, KT and Miller

PROBABLE STARTERS - HAWKS - Lue, Johnson, Smith, Williams, Pachulia

I'm really hoping the Kings can come out tonight and remind us what they're capable of doing. The "team" we've been seeing lately sure hasn't impressed me much. If they want Arco Thunder to support them, they've got to do something (anything) to awaken the sleeping giants EARLY!

I've got a nice fire going in the woodstove and, in the spirit of the holidays, I'm having Gevalia French Vanilla coffee laced with real eggnog. :) My fresh-cut Christmas tree (and yes, I had a permit) is sitting outside in a bucket, drawing up moisture before I bring it inside. I've already taken a couple of fresh branches off the bottom and brought them in. The smell of fresh-cut pine is one of the things I love about this time of year.

I didn't move any of my Kings stuff today. I figured the team has to find a way to win, and me moving my bears, bobbleheads, pennants, pins, bottle holders, signs, banners, and everything else around has gone on long enough. I've put them back where they were for most of the past 5 years. It's up to the team to do the rest. ;)

As I say, it's snowing. Since this is the case, there is always the outside chance of a power outage. If I disappear during the game, that would be the best explanation of why. We haven't had a lot of heavy snow, however, so I'm not too worried. I do have my propane lantern out, along with various candles, my portable radio, etc. Usually, if I make the preparations ahead of time, I rarely have any problems.

The game tonight is on News10 and starts at somewhere after 6 p.m. I'm finishing my dinner; I plan to be here to bring you a Kings win. (I've even considered creating one for you, should the Kings not cooperate.)

;)

Williams starting for Johnson on the Hawks. SAR starting for Kenny Thomas, whom Grant says is out with "flu-like symptoms."

Someone might want to clue Grant in on the Thomas ailment.
