It was OBVIOUS the way Napier talked, and worded things, that's exactly the kind of situation.
We're talking creepo level of distaste here. It sounded like the way you'd talk about someone if they had some weird personal habits that grossed you out or something.

Grant is such a coward. I remember watching games and he kept saying over and over again what a great teammate Twill has been and how he has a "clean slate", blah, blah, blah. Now that he knows that Twill is gone, he starts bashing him. Same crap he did with Webber and other players.

I am not a fan of the moves we made. You can kind of see where JJ moves comes from and in term of trade value, its a good deal BUT in term of salary cap management its just a WTF move? Yet another contract to add to $20 odd million of questionable contracts for next season. While $2.8 million is not much, it cuts into the cap room.
Then we go and waive Whiteside to make more room to sign Aaron Brooks. Just how many undersized, allergic to defence gunners to we really need. I fail to see logic in our off-season moves so far. Mind you I said the same thing during last off-season so I really should not be surprised.
Now if we didn't have IT, I would like Brooks signing as a spark plug off the bench type guard. A gunner who can change the pace and bring some shooting and speed. A high octane type player BUT as constructed currently this deal makes no sense unless of course one or both of IT and MT are involved in another move.
That's very well possible but it didn't look like that from his teammates standpoint. He looked like he fit right in from day 1 with the guys. Everyone remembers how he would go out of his way to get Jimmer involved on the offense. I remember them walking back to the bench multiple times with TWill's arm around Jimmer talking basketball. Either something else went on or it was just Smart being Smart. aka not having a clue what he's doing.
About James Johnson. From reading the Raptors board, the consensus I got is that he's a head case roleplayer that provides good D and hustle but is wildly inconsistent on the offensive end. Some people are really pissed that he got traded for a 2nd rounder and other people act like it's no big deal. The general opinion of the board is his defense is really good and everything else they could live without. He has a tendency to take bad shots and make bad turnovers but their fans will miss his blocks and steals the most. I have a feeling were getting Donte Greene with better weak side blocking. Sounds like we have our new backup PF!

I did notice that Napier very abruptly changed his tone about T-Will toward the end of last season. Must have heard some negative stuff about him.

I highly doubt IT is going anywhere. He played very well, he's playing dirt cheap, he's a leader on the team, there's nothing in the news that remotely implies that the Kings are interested in him leaving. On the other hand, there are rumblings about Thornton and his lack of interest, might we say, about going to the bench. If it's do or die for Evans at the 2, then Thornton is the odd man out. And I do believe it's do or die with Evans at the 2 because I find it hard to believe he would accomodate the Kings by playing another year at the 3.

The one consistent thing in that video is that Johnson loses track of the outside shooters repeatedly, in particular carlos delfino (not the biggest sample size, but something to watch for sure). I am just hoping he is not one of those guys that is satisfied with one good defensive sequence and then calls it a night. I would not even mind seeing him start if he can bring defensive intensity all game long.

Yea, it seems like JJ is a gambler on defense. He helps a lot, which leaves his man open a lot of the times. It seems like he does a good job in contesting the shot when he does get back to his man, but often times too late. He's got quick and active hands though when guys drive into the lane, which create a lot of loose balls.
I think you're missing the point here. Nobody wants to be at the minimum salary like we were last year. Spending money on players is a good thing. The concern over the salary cap is that we have a limited amount of money to spend on players, just like every team, so it matters which players you choose to spend that money on. Personally I think we spent a whole lot of money and didn't get much better. Which means not only are we still one of the worst teams in the league, now we can't afford any of the players who might elevate us to being merely average. It's a huge missed opportunity of an off-season.

It's not like this guy claims that a team wanted to trade their all-star for Wesley Johnson in 2010. Trading #6 and #18 for #4, especially given the fact that team with #6 and #18 also held #5, is not something outrageous.

It definitely fits Petrie's MO. And quite honestly I was among those thinking that Flynn would be a very good point guard in the league. Sure, in hindsight that trade looks ridiculous, but on draft day I probably would have endorsed it.
It's not outrageous on the face of it, but it's pretty clear we coveted Tyreke in that draft. If I've got my timeline right, Gavin's Gush to the crowd at ARCO about Tyreke and his 7-foot wingspan happened almost immediately after the pick, not the hour or so later that Johnson came off the board. So it seems at least a bit unlikely in this case that we had a deal lined up to trade him.
But my major point is that this was from a random guy on the internet with no source, not even a rumor of it at the time (sure, there was a rumor we like Flynn, but that's it). It's more than likely either a pinch of truth with some runaway imagination (perhaps we had a discussion with Minny regarding #4 for #6 + #18 if Griffin/Tyreke/Harden went 1/2/3, giving Minny their shot at Thabeet) or made up entirely. I can make stuff up, too. I just don't trust random three-year-old rumor over common sense + what I know.
So, there's no reason to think Petrie hasn't liked Johnson - we did work him out - but I just don't think this adds any evidence to that.
