Greetings, fellow Kings fans!
We finally have rain here in the forest. Buckets of rain. And I, for one, am extremely glad to see it. The idea of having fire season declared the first day of February was really scary; that's behind us now, however, and hopefully we'll catch up with the rain we've missed...
I've got the requisite Gevalia French Vanilla coffee going and a nice fire in the woodstove. I'm actually glad tonight's game is the second half of the TNT double-header because SURVIVOR: Fiji Islands starts tonight. I'm not going to skip any of the PBP, however...

Okay, here's what the Sam Amick had to say in this morning's Bee about tonight's matchup:
I think the most interesting matchup is going to be Musselman vs. the Kings. Will they show the same kind of focus and intensity with him back on the bench as they did the last two games with Scott Brooks?
I love this team but I'm not anywhere near convinced that what we need is to be just good enough to squeak into the playoffs, especially with the problems the current group of players seems to have. I have never been this conflicted about rooting for the Kings. I will ALWAYS root for the players but this is not a team that will ever get past the real powerhouses of the league for more than one lucky game.
But our job is to root for them and root for them I will. And if they lose, I'm consoled by the notion of a better slot for draft day 2007.

Tonight's game
Chicago (28-21) at Kings (20-26)
KINGS OUTLOOK - The vibe has taken a turn for the better, as the prospect of the playoffs seems real again. For how long has yet to be determined, but real progress can be achieved should the Kings beat Chicago and thereby compile a four-game winning streak for just the second time this season. If there's a telling statistical read on the season, it's that the Kings have won three consecutive games twice before. Both instances came in the opening month, as the Kings went 8-5. Chicago, however, is more formidable than the first three victims of this mini-run (Minnesota, Denver and New Orleans).
BULLS OUTLOOK - Chicago has won eight of 12 games but is 0-1 since losing Andres Nocioni. The reserve forward, who is averaging 15.0 points and 6.0 rebounds, sat out Monday's 100-95 road loss to Utah with inflammation in his right foot and is expected to be out least a few more days. Since starting the season 3-9, the Bulls are 25-12. No win was more impressive than the 96-85 victory over Dallas on Jan. 25, ending the Mavericks' 13-game winning streak.
KEY MATCHUP - Ron Artest vs. Luol Deng - Artest has a renewed vigor on the defensive end, and he hasn't forgotten the last time he faced Deng. In the Kings' Nov. 3 win in Chicago, Deng had a then-season-high 29 points on 12-for-21 shooting. But Artest feels good after holding Denver's Carmelo Anthony to 7-for-25 shooting Saturday.
PROBABLE STARTING FIVE
Kings - Bibby, Martin, Artest, Thomas, Miller
Bulls - Hinrich, Gordon, Deng, Brown, Wallace
