Better lucky than good

On November 4th 2001 Kings playing without Webber beat Spurs easily103 – 83 to go to 3-0 at that time finishing a great season 61-21. Kings dominated that game winning all 4 quarters. Kings who had 6 players in double figures were lead by #21 who had 25/11/5.
Bibby had 20/5/5/2,Pedja had 11/3/2, Pollard had 10/9/1/2/3. Bench production was supreme as usual at that time. Funderburke had 10/6/4 and Bobby had 10/4/3/4.

"If we just realize that if we keep playing through Vlade, and we keep moving the ball and move people, we are very hard to guard," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "He got us going. He started the game. He makes things happen for us."

"Chris is out so we try to be fast and quick with the basketball," Stojakovic said. "If not. we try to get the ball into Vlade."

After an early Christmas present by the Bulls – Kings are 1-1 very early in the season which is a best start in several years mostly due to having to play Texas triangle but who cares. This is a quality road victory regardless on “how”. Now Kings could close with a win in Milwaukie and make it a very successful trip. Also it is good to have a W just for confidence. Maybe we will relax more and stop shooting 30%.

Win is a win. Pretty, ugly, close, blowout, present, grinded out, stolen, dominated – win is a win. Even when You can’t explain “why” or “how” and when You don’t feel right about it – it is a win. However, - if You think for a second that it was deserved and that it has anything to do with a quality of the play – You are making a mistake that can cost You later. So, let’s hope our players realize that. Luck is a part of this game and sometimes You have it and sometimes You don’t and since we are the Kings – we usually don’t have it when we need it the most. My point – enjoy while it last because it usually doesn’t last long

So with 80 games to go someone kidnapped Kings offense. There were no ransom demands or blackmails. As a Kings fan I would be willing to offer KT, Taylor and Hart. People say that every “offense” gets pretty after certain amount of alcohol consumed. (BTW someone make sure that Muss isn’t driving tonight”). I am currently considering buying me a second liver on EBAY because judging on the first 2 games – I will need another one and soon. Playing good offense requires a team being insinc and having talent. We lack both.

We used to complain about RA's 7 man rotation when we were 10 or 11 deep. Who would have thought hat things could get worse back then. We have 3 players playing insane minutes already and only reason why Brad doesn't belong in that group is his chronical suking at this time. We will run out of gas faster than a hybrid. Thank god - we are usually not injury prone.

One thing that You have to give Kings credit for is the effort, the “fight” and the resistance. No matter how bad it got the team played defense and never gave up. Have to give coach some credit too here. We might be able to win some ugly games based on that. It is a quality. Just be prepared for some bad losses because good teams won’t let us sneak up whit this kind of performances.

State of the team is very concerning. Mike Bibby is playing with one arm and that affects him in every aspect of the play. Even at his worst – we can’t replace him because we have no one else any good on that position. Ron Artest seams to be a new “AI wannabe”, who haven’t met a shot that didn’t like. He is actually worse than in preseason. Brad Miller is new Kenny Thomas and Kenny Thomas is new “empty trash bag”. SAR doesn’t start because then we lose the little bench that we have. The rest is not worth mentioning.

No, I didn’t forget Kevin Martin. I just think that he doesn’t deserve to be in the section above. Playing great and on the road. Kid is developing fast and I am wondering weather our brilliant GM is considering some kind of extension. I know that Kevin is about 4 inches short off the “perfect” size but maybe we should consider an exception here. He could be the most improved player this season especially if his team is forced to rely on him so heavily. He is a bright spot at the moment and we are very happy for him. Keep it up Kevin.

Here are 11 things that tell You that You are Kenny Thomas:

-when you start helping Your team after You foul out.
-when You only start because You suck little less than coming off the bench
-when Kings fans would consider trading You for Danny Fortson
-when Your expiring contract is not an asset
- when even Knicks don’t want You
- when Your only FG attempt in a game is missed dunk
- when Your # of fouls equals the sum of points, rebounds, assists and steals
-when Your back up is Mo Taylor.
- when Your fantasy owner shot himself while jumping off the cliff after setting himself on fire
- when people buy Your jersey on sale to use it as doormat
-when opponents that You guard can’t miss even if they try hard
(keep them coming)

What else cab be said about tonight’s game. Hard to believe that we won it. Impossible to explain how we did it. We shot 37% and turned it over 26 times and still didn’t lose. Bulls choked big time. We can take credit for hanging around but Bulls gave it to us. It was a festival of one bad decision after another for 48 minutes. Just the way – we like it.
The key moment was certainly fouling out by KT. From that moment we started playing 5 on 5 which is much easier than 4 on 6.

AWARD TIME

TDM goes to Deng who joined the biggest fraternity of this planet..29/7/4/2/2 is very impressive even for a star player.
LW-VC award goes to the former TDM winner P.J. Brown who didn’t score and had 3 rb a steal, a block and 2 turnover. Honorable mention deserve also Duhon, Gordon and Brad Miller yet again.
When I created the JHA - I did not expect to give it out again so soon but a “performance” by KT left me no other choice. I am not going to list his stats. I am sure You have seen it. I am just giving this award to him for being what he is – Kenny Thomas – the best Kings player any opponent would want to face.

Mike Bibby – missed a triple double by an assist. I am pretty sure that he broke his career high in turnovers. 11 is too much. Still played hard with one arm. His a big shot again and didn’t get himself ejected
Ron – 6-24 is followed by 7-20. Still horrible I that area. Taken Bonzi’s rebounding role. Superb effort and defense. Stop taking bad & dumb shots.
Brad Miller – appearently the hunting season didn’t start yet. Wake up man.
Kevin – just keep it up kid.

SAR – he is the “bench” that we have

The rest – get lost

Muss – will need a drink or two tonight. Made his teams hang around and believe till the end. Needs to figure out a better rotation and soon.

Bucks are also 1-1 so far The have a solid team and HCA considering that it is back to back for both teams. They have a solid team that will cause us problems.
TDM award should go to Brian Skinner even though Villanueva won’t be guarded and should have a field trip
LW-VC award will hopefully go to a Buck’s player preferably Redd
I really hope that JHA will not be given out after this game

They should be pretty tired after this one. Hopefully they don't have to work so hard tomorrow. Big opportunity to come home 2-1 here.

Piksi, mate.. you gonna do this 80 more times? I absolutely enjoy reading your pre-game articles more than anything else. Keep it comin' :p

The short rotation is a worry. I hope it is just because we started out on the road. I think Muss has too quick of a hook on Francisco, because he's a player that can help in different ways. Also, after a great preseason, Ronnie is absent from the court.

The team is facing some of the same problems we had with Adleman, short rotation and small lineups, but at the same time it is overcoming some of the problems the team had with Adleman. In the past, Adleman's excuse for the poor defense was that he didn't have the players to play a defensive scheme with. Now with pretty much the same team minus one the team's best defenders from last year(Bonzi), the Kings are a much better defensive squad.

I think also, in games in which the offense and shots struggled as much as they have so far, this team often got blown out last year. They are staying in games now. The problem is, I worry Muss won't stand up to those are who are derailing the offense and say "hey, quit this ****".

The Bucks are a hard team for me to gauge, because I haven't seen them much. Redd is killer and I wonder if Martin or Artest will guard him. The Bucks picked up Steven Blake as their backup PG and I've always liked him. Other than that, I don't know much of the team.

We will run out of gas faster than a hybrid.
????

Isn't that analogy a bit off?

I would've thought I'd been here long enough to know what the hell the JHA was, but I guess I was completely wrong. Someone explain it, pretty please?

And also, how does Duhon not automatically become launched into the pantheon of LW-VC award winners from the last minute of the game alone? The guy probably contributed more to the Kings' win than anyone not named Martin or Artest. Absolutely amazing performance.

don't worry piksi just introduced it... i dont even remember what it is exactly ... but heres what piksi posted to explain it

“Jason Hart Award” It will be given to a player which existence on the court is irrelevant and who makes his team better by not playing (addition by subtraction). Now the LW-VC award is respectable because the player who got it – at least sucked trying to do well. The JHA winner just plain and simple sucks even when he plays his best.
Guess it makes sense to why it is named the "Jason Hart Award"

Ummm ... errr .... huh?

Like, perhaps you meant to say:

"We will run out of gas faster than a Hummer going uphill with the wind against it."

The whole "hybrid" thing seems to be a bit ... off, considering Hybrids pretty much get the best gas milage on the road.

the JHA is the Jason Hart Award. It goes to the player that best benefits the team by not being on the court. Such as Kenny Thomas had last night when he fouled out we started playing and won.

I completely agree with this, especially about Francisco. Jerry Reynolds has said a few times that he feels Francisco gets better the more minutes he plays. If he knows he is going to get pulled after one minute, he is trying too hard to do something spectacular and it usually ends up being some sort of a turn over. I hope that Muss will give him some more time out there just to settle down and play with confidence. Some good things could come from it.

Yup. we need a reliable backup point guard. Bibby can NOT go 45 minutes everygame. I hope Price and Garcia could fill that role.

and our "bigs".. someone has to go wake them up or something. It's been all Ron, Mike, and Kevin the 1st 2 games. They need more contributions from the other guys.

If anybody can handle it, it is Bibby. He played over 40 min a total of 40 games last season and is supposedly in better shape this year. So Its not a big deal this early in the season now if it gets to be every game for 2 or 3 weeks then you might want to look at some other options. in addition to his 40 games over 40 min was 10 games at 38+ I am sure Garcia would come around its like last year he needs more than 1 min a time.

Bogut may be the only center Brad is quicker than. Miller should have a good game tonight but on the inside not the outside. he has lost confidence in his perimeter shot and Muss knows that and will have Miller playing closer to the basket tonight. I have a feeling SAR may get the start tonight to help our stagnant offense and KT will come off the bench. If all goes well with that lineup and both KT and SAR have good games with their respective roles the lineup may stay the same. Because if KT starts i will have to question Muss on what he expects from his starting PF.

Villanueva may not play tonight, I guess he left in the 4th last night and didn't return, either a hamstring or calf injury.

Also checked their stats so far, bad defense stat wise so hopefully we can get some good things going tonight, only a few hours away!
