Kings are signing Jordan Farmar

Kings Sign Jordan Farmar
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento Kings today signed free agent guard Jordan Farmar, according to Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Vlade Divac.

Farmar averaged 6.5 points (.471 FG%, 5-11 3pt, .833 FT%), 1.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists in four preseason contests with Sacramento, including 14 points (5-8 FG, 4-5 3pt), one rebound and five assists against the L.A. Lakers on Oct. 13. A 10-year NBA veteran, Farmar has tallied career averages of 7.7 points (.423 FG%, .374 3pt%, .739 FT%), 1.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 19.5 minutes per game in 502 contests.

Indeed.

Was wondering what Vlade and Peja were doing out on the road with the team in Miami. Maybe there is still something afoot out there.

I guess there's a chance we might make a deal to free up a roster spot - it wouldn't be the earliest deal in the NBA this season!

However, I suspect the thinking is more that we will use Farmar for three games and then cut him. Since contracts aren't fully guaranteed until January 10th, we could sign him to an unguaranteed contract and only pay him the pro-rated amount. The odd thing is why Farmar would agree to this - unless he simply can't find a gig overseas. One week worth of minimum salary doesn't seem like enough incentive to stop looking elsewhere.

The latter point is what has had me curious about this situation for weeks now. He stuck around in preseason, and all so he could get 3 games with us? That doesn't make much sense to me unless he is thinking it leads to something more.

I guess one possible explanation is that Farmar wants the opportunity to showcase for teams that might have a slot... Otherwise I got nothing.

Bringing in Farmar is a wise move, he can spread the floor and provides an extra ball handler because what we've been seeing is tough to watch at times.

Throw in Kelly Olynyk and you got yo'self a deal my friend!

We can't have both Olynyk and Johnson, we need a roster spot for Farmar ;)

It's good to have him for in the PG rotation until DC comes back, and my guess is he doesn't want to play in europe anymore and thinks he can get minutes here in this games to prove to other teams he can play at the NBA level.
