[News] Kings and Schroder agree on three year 45 million dollar contract. No sign and trade

Free agency started less than 24 hours ago. New rookies haven't even met all their teammates. New front office, new coaching staff...Lots of work to be done before I'm ready to go "oh that's it?!?!"
It blows my mind that people don’t understand this and I’m not trying to be a know-it-all when i say that. It’s just … this can’t be the first rodeo for most members on this forum

LaVine, DDR, Dennis, possibly Westbrook, and who else could be added to this pile..
This is a collection of misfits, damaged goods, and journeymen. The Kings is becoming a retirement home for seniors.
You really think the 4 of them will be here come October? I don’t

Reading all of these threads and I’m not sure what everyone expects to happen this year. Maybe I’ve just accepted that our current roster is hopeless in the short term. It feels like these are moves to make us competent on the floor with a PG but this whole thing is gonna take longer than a year to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I think Perry is trying to turn the titanic around. In a year if don’t see a clear long term direction then yeah I’m probably out on this team. But until then I’m not gonna get upset with some of these minor short term moves.

Longer than a year? Hell, I'm prepared for another 15 year drought. If it's less than that, I'll be elated!

Doesn't sound like Perry wants to. For whatever reason.

That's the only silver lining I can see with this current core. We're kind of sneakily cleaning out the older vets off the bench and now all our youth (right now at least) is being thrust into actual rotation roles. Lyles gone, JV gone, LaRavia gone, Monk is probably gone. So, can

Carter
Keon
Nique
IJ
Reynaud
Keegan

around

Dennis
LaVine
DDR
Domas

Make any noise? Probably not, but IF that's our top 10 next season, at the very least we get real information on what the youth can be. Along with a likely top 10 pick, can buy-out DDR and LaVine is an expiring.

It's not a great path, but I think with what we're dealt, that's the direction I would go. Assuming of course that DDR has no actual market, as being reported.

You can't get real information if the vets are taking away minutes from the youngins. I can live with a rookie not being "given" minutes, but not young vets like Keegan and Ellis. Keegan can't be a 4th or 5th option on this team. Makes no sense. I'm not going to give up hope on Perry quite yet. There is still some time left.

With any run it back success has to be the guide. If the Kings are aimlessly floundering at some point the youth will have to get the spot to improve. If not then this will be a long term disaster. The key thing is that LaVine, DeMar, Monk, and Domas have to look as good as possible. Big numbers > wins at this point.

With a healthy Sabonis and pieces that fit, i just don’t see it. I get the skepticism but last season damn near everything went wrong and they got 40 wins.

We have to see what's real though. That kind of looks like a post change buzz that eventually slipped and then so much of the team changed with the Fox trade who knows what they even are. Besides a terrible starting 5 defensively of course, lol. If LaVine and Domas can get down some chemistry how can they not be a great two man combo? That's definitely going to crush some dreams of a top pick by itself.

Are you talking about showcasing them? I think that scene is done already. To me the key thing is having a direction with the emphasis on youth. It doesn't have to be 100% youth, but guys like DDR and LaVine have got to go

I’m reserving judgement until more time passes.

It’s interesting to me though that we landed on a 3 year deal for Schroeder. Doing so not only curries favor with an agent we will have other dealings with, but also allows for the possibility of this still being turned into a sign and trade using our Huerter trade exception. Opens the possibility of having the pistons be the third team in a complicated Kuminga trade where we take on more salary using the extra space we opened with the JVal trade.

But here’s the issue with the new CBA and teams getting heavily penalized with these aprons. Moving that type of money is extremely difficult now, so what is it exactly you want the Kings to do? If there are no options on dumping that kind of money without say attaching future 1st round picks is that what you want the team to do? Because at that point it just makes sense to let the money expire. The Kings have pretty much clean books in 2027 and all their picks moving forward, no reason to dump future assets to clear those contracts this season.

Exactly, this year the young guys continue to watch and get tested in practice, then if the season is a wash by the deadline you start ticking up their minutes and exploring trade options for the vets. Some team is bound to be right in range of a playoff slot or contention and attempt to bolster their talent depth for the playoffs.

Of course. If the Kings decide to sit DeMar especially and he's not out there doing DeMar things good luck getting anything for him. LaVine with a season and a half tops left on his deal is also a lot different than 2 full seasons if he doesn't opt out. LaVine was already having some fans second guessing why their team didn't go after him before the Kings started fading. Now, if the Kings are still in the play in I have no doubt this will be a totally wasted season. They'll go for it, but if the Kings are garbage by the deadline (which who really knows TBH, they might catch some teams by surprise because there is talent here) then not transition over to the youth post All star break would be typical Kangz ball.

We also have to remember the era Doug Christie comes from. He came in at a time where rookies sometimes had to take years before they got their shot. Hopefully he's not doing that but it's his personal experience. He was nearing 27 before he really got a chance.

Dennis is a nice player but with zero upside giving him a 3 year deal 15mil per is crazy, that's the kind of deal you give him maybe when he was showing signs when he was like 21 and backing up Jeff Teague at a high level and was looking like a potential good starting PG which he could never prove he was.

Wait, they're facing Schroder tonight? Hopefully the guys bring their A game for this one!

Lmao Detroit’s gonna lose there backup and the team is begging them to take back a better player

If this allows us to sign Kuminga great. If we use it to sign Russ
I’d still be intrigued by Malcom Brogdan if its a TPE. Might not bode well for Carters development but at this point we don’t even know if he has lead guard potential. I don’t want to see Monk going to Detroit for Schroder.

And how are we gonna know his potential when we’re playing sorry ass vets in front of him in our quest for the 11th seed. How’s he getting more than 15mpg with Lavine, Schroeder, and westbrick or Brogdan in front of him. Where’s Keon playing? Why would Keon resign after playing less than 25 minutes a game this year. Kill three horses at once: lose Keon and derail the development of Keegan and Carter
