[News] Kings and Schroder agree on three year 45 million dollar contract. No sign and trade

I don't mind losses in the slightest. And if the plan was "Hey, we're clearing the runway for Reynaud and Nique to be a 15-20 MPG from the jump. We're clearing the runway for Keon and Carter to be 30+ MPG guys. Let's see what they are". Perfect. If we're bad, so be it. If we're good, we got more found money.

But this Dennis stuff just does not seem like a team that's trying to do clear the runway for the young guys. Us not shopping DDR around. Us talking to vets like Russ and Brogdon. That indicates a team that's still trying to win games. And the "culture" stuff is bullcrap, on a team with LaVine, DDR, Domas and even Monk at this point. There's plenty of vet leadership in the locker room.
What do you think the org is going to come out and say they are clearing space to play the new guys and improve their draft stock? Why would anyone go to games at that point. Plus they risk being fined and made examples out of.

I'm fine moving Monk and or Demar asap. Just not for Russ lol. I've said all along.
Find a way to turn Demar + 2nds into John Collins and i'm a happy man. undersized still but not bad

Sabonis/maxime/jones
Keegan/Collins
LaVine/Nique
Keon/Carter
Schroder/Monk

I would be cool going in with a roster that fits and makes sense.

That's not what I said. JV for a cap dump is *fine* in the context of "Hey, we want to give this job to Reynaud and see what he's got". If you're a team that's prioritizing youth, that's a perfectly fine move to make. Clear space and clear playing time for a young guy. But you made that move to sign a 32 year old PG that blocks 2 of our young guys from getting the necessary playing time. And the contract dictates that it's obviously not in a "mentor" type role, but one where he's going to start and expected to play big minutes. And by some reports, we're not done at that position! Further burying Carter and Keon on the depth chart.

It depends what the end result is here. Are we done? Because right now:

Gained
Dennis Schroeder
Dario Saric (although seems dubious he's still on the team)

Lost:
JV
LaRavia
Lyles
Keon Ellis RFA rights

We're in a worse position and we've risked one of our most valuable players team control to do it. There's got to be more shoes to fall now.

Yeah, I hate this. I'm not even as down on Schroder as many at KF.com, but why for the MLE? Who were we competing against to spend that kind of money on him? And is this the reason we sacrificed team control of Keon Ellis? To sign Dennis effing Schroder? He's a really solid backup PG, but that's not the role he's going to be playing here, nor is it a role the Kings could afford for him to occupy after spending what they just spent to sign him.

I don't blame Perry for not being able to re-sign LaRavia. That was always a long-shot given the idiotic rules. But still, the Kings lost one of their few wings, and had to dump a useful backup center just to clear enough room for Schroder since Perry couldn't extract enough value out of Detroit in a sign-and-trade of Malik. And why have we been so laser-focused on Schroder in the first place? He's not that big of a prize. And what follow-up moves are coming to justify the moves necessary to make room for him?

I'll give Perry time to work this out, but I'm not impressed so far. He had a good draft day, but as many at KF.com have remarked, the Clifford selection seemed like it was tee'd up by the front office holdovers from McNair's regime. It was a classic Monte pick. But what's Perry's M.O.? Are Schroder and Westbrook representative of "his guys"? Aging vets who won't move the "win now" needle and just get in the way of developing the more intriguing talent further down the bench? We've witnessed that story in Sacramento time and again in the last 20 years. I sure hope Perry's not that kind of GM.

We still have to assume there are going to be other moves and that at least two of Carter/Keon/Nique will get ample opportunities to play next season. None of these guys are truly PGs and I'd suspect only Carter would get significant minutes as lead creator. If we send Monk out for forward depth and still look to move DDR/Zach down the road there will be time.

It's pretty clear we're setting ourselves up to be bottom feeders here.

For a chance to eventually set ourselves up to be top feeders, which I am not necessarily against right now.

Wouold much rather see Carter start than sign Schroder.....KANGZ.....way to continue mediocrity.

Yesterday Vecenie had us finishing second to last in the west, mostly due to the brutal competition. Obviously health will shake things up for some teams but it sounded about right to me. I’ve mentally prepared myself for a tough year wins and losses wise. The thing is, things could turn quick. If either Maxine or Nique hit and you walk into a top ten pick in a loaded draft we could be on our way up in short order.
Short order ..... shea another season, that's "short".

I'm waiting to see what the Kings do with DeMar. By all accounts, it seems like there's not much interest in moving him. I have no idea what's a smoke screen and what isn't these days, but if Schroder and Westbrook are representative of Perry's "type", than DeMar is certainly his type, as well. If so, we can look forward to a lot of slow, plodding, ugly basketball that once again marginalizes Domas' value to the team and reduces Keegan's opportunities to develop offensively. I'm really hoping Perry has a plan, and I'm really hoping that plan involves prioritizing the good young talent that's already on the roster, but I remain discouraged by what I'm seeing right now.

Dwayne Dedmon?

I meant at time of the deal. I think a lot of us thought Dedmon would be good because he was before he got here.

Shroeder will likely perform better than George Hill too but at the time of the signing it felt like the Kings were getting a better player.

This is the problem though. What are we doing?

If the idea is to rebuild, then you can accept less value. Because the main target of doing a trade like that is to open up the playing time for Carter/Keon/Nique/Keegan to develop and take bigger roles on the team. If we're trying to win games and stay competitive, you cannot accept worse value "just to change things up" That's how you stay just good enough to not be in a position for a premium pick while blocking the younger guys on the squad.

But can you accept negative value? If a team is going to ask for your picks to take on LaVine’s salary, you’re better off just keeping him.

We’re also literally only 20 hours into the new season so maybe we should at least hold off until August before determining what direction Scott is taking the team?

I think the takeaway from that is that many fans simply aren’t interested in Schroder at all.

They were furious about the idea of Monk being traded for him because it compounded the negativity around a move they already weren’t wild about on its own. But then local media was priming that we might be losing Monk for a player hardly anybody even wants as a straight up free agent?

I’m definitely relieved if Monk isn’t traded to make way for Schroder though.

Who knows what they're thinking.....
