Kings 2 and 8 against the best in the west!?

I don't believe this.

General comment based on some fan reactions: Don't let the wheels of the wagon run over you in your rush to jump off.

Just because the fans discuss these issues doesn't mean they are jumping off any "bandwagon". This team has an opprotunity to do something great, and for that not to happen would be a tragedy. We like all of the players on the team but if there is a way to better the team it should be discussed. If we didn't care then there would be nobody on this board to even bother discussing it.

Do you really think they were ever on?

You can't panic so much it's 82 games and there is still a lot of season left. We need to improve but you would think we were the warriors or something....

By putting your hands in front of your eyes and refusing to see the glaring problems this team has is denial, pure and simple. To say that they will turn it on in the playoffs may be true but very unproven. If anything, the evidence so far would point in the opposite direction. I believe in this team, but I also believe it will be difficult, to say the least, to make any noise in the playoffs if they continue at this pace. Injuries, tough schedules, and screwjobs aside the truth is that this team, as we know it now, has very few opprotunities left to get it done.

Look how far we have come already, Vlade gone, Doug gone, this team is changing. For the better I would hope and assume b/c Petrie is tha man.

Obviously we are not the Warriors, but it also depends on your level of expectation, we do not expect to be the Warriors. We are a veteren team that is ready now. Not 2-3 years down the road but now.

The truth is that it is time to panic. This team cannot afford to be middle of the road. There is only so much time left.

Thats true but I would like to at least win one season series against one of the top teams in the West. So far we have lost the series to Seattle and San Antonio.

Agreed, I would love to win a season series. Hey, ideally I would love to win all of them. But things aren't in our control. All we can do is support our team and believe in them. Just because they beat us in the regular season doesn't mean they'll beat us in the playoffs.

5th best(ok 6th at the moment) record in the league isn't middle of the road. San Anton is ballin we have to adjust and get everyone healthy and gelling with Cat then lets see what happens.(having Bobby wouldn't hurt either)

What????

I am not putting my hands in front of my eyes. I'm also not panicking because we lost a close game without Brad in the line-up in February when the game clearly could have gone the other way.

The truth is that panic gets you nowhere.

5 best in the West is middle of the road! Not that I think seeding is the key. Beating the quality teams is the key.

we'll be 4th again after tommorow, thats middle of the playoff teams is that what you mean?

sheesh, 4 plays 5........... likely dallas and sac. so all's that's left in this 82 game pre-season to the playoffs is home court for that series.

This comment indicates either an unwillingness or an inability to differentiate between between denying that this team has flaws and not allowing yourself as a fan to be consumed by the flaws. I mean, okay, the team has weakness; exhale, or something, why don't you?

5/15 is not "middle of the road." The Kings are percentage points away from being in the top four in the west, and are only two wins behind the team with the third-best record.

It is not, in fact, time to panic.

We need to get healthy, we need to play a little better D, and we need to get some practice in. All-Star break is starting to sound much better for the team.

There is actually what 30 something games left. Hopefully we can get hot to END the season this year :).

OK, there is a bright side here. Kings lost 3 in row but all were close. Kings averaged 107 points in the 3 games and Web has averaaged a triple double. Tonight the Kingsface a softer opponent and will be at full strenth (sans Bobby) WEbber and Miller ought to befired up as well as the restof team and I KNOW they do not want to loose 4 in a row.

well said....just what "like" Barkley said in TNT...that the Kings are fading....
and nobody thinks Kings will make it this year either...we're just hoping for some sort of a miracle...and if CWebb goes down...everything is down the drain again...and again...and again...

Barkley bashes the Kings all the time, no matter if were winning or losing. He also said Yao will never score more than 20 points in game in his career and he was wrong about that. It's only mid-season, we have had alot of injuries and those have exposed some of our problems but I don't think there are serious as these past games have made them look.

What?!? We have 5th best record in the league. Badly injured and still able to produce. Every team will have their ups and downs, but we showed last week that we can win without 3 of our starters playing.

I don't carewhat anyone thinks we can do or not do. It is what we think we can do that matters and judging by emotions that our guys show every nigh (win or lose) I think that they want to win too.

We had a bad record against the top teams in the west last year and we were ONE game away from getting to the WCF. Our record now don't mean much, its not like we're getting blown out, most of the games have been close and could of gone either way.

Think about it. The past 2-3 years, we've usually had the best or second-best record right? Look how far that got us. Look at it this way. Instead of us being the best team, and other teams adjusting to and studying how we play to stop us in the playoffs, its the other way around. We may lose now, but we learn from our mistakes, learn from the losses, and then we use that in the playoffs.

Thats my take on it.

Good point Brewer16, we have to pretend were the Lakers of 2002 with the bad record, only to step it up during the playoffs and win it all. Minus a player of Shaq's caliber of course :\

You had - Vlade, Healthy Webber, Bobby, Hedo, JJ etc.

We do not have that talent anymore.

yea def.....effort from our new bench is great but lack of true talent leaves a small margin for error

I don't consider these games much barometer, missing too many players. Winning these games doesn't, in actuallity, get us anything. Pacific Division? Been there, done that, have many T-Shirts, best record in the league? Ditto. Home court in the play offs all the way through? Check. I don't personally plan on getting too bent out of shape about mid-season losses, I'm saving my energy for the home stretch, when it matters. This is, in the end, nothing.

The part that may or may not be a problem is the above highlighted item.

Wins/Losses or Won/Loss Record does determine our placement in the brackets.

Each game does matter ....

yea finishing strong ius all that really matters...in each of the last few seasons the kings have seemed to go down a bit towards the end while other teams started heating up....this year it could end up being the opposite

Yea that may be what barkley said but greg anthony and tim legler from ESPN (on NBA Nation) said that the kings could do some real damage come playoff time. According to Anthony, the Kings have players that are really hungry and know what it takes. In his words they are a "sleeper team"

I wouldn't get my hopes up on what anybody outside the organization says. Even despite their jobs and what they see/do .... those of us living here in the Sacramento area get more exposure first-hand then they do.

Sleeper Team ??? Those are nice words .... that's all they are ... WORD

Not that it deserves as much attention as it gets, but Barkley doesn't hate the Kings, he just doesn't think they have much chance to win the championship because he thinks they are soft. He doesn't hate them.

...

As far as being 2 and 8, that concerns me a little. It is not a cause an effect thing - I don't think the Kings being 2-8 against the top teams means that they cannot go deep into the playoffs. What it is is an indicator. A 5-5 or 6-4 record I would be happy with, or even 4-6 after that bad start, but at 2-8 it is slightly closer to a trend that they will have to think about. It is not the same as the Lakers turning it on when it matters. This Kings team needs to beat up on as many good teams as it can. I'm sure they are trying to, too. We'll just have to wait and see if playoff basketball is more suited to their style than it is to Phoenix, Seattle, Dallas, etc.
