Step in to the world of The Kingdom of Loathing

The Kingdom of Loathing was once a pleasant place, where all the citizens loathed one another equally and nobody caused too much trouble. Under the gentle rule of King Ralph XI, peace had prevailed for as long as anybody could remember.

One fateful Porktober morning, a Sorceress came to the Kingdom. A Naughty Sorceress. A Naughty Sorceress who was clearly up to no good, and even more clearly up to plenty of bad. King Ralph sought to expel the Naughty Sorceress from his Kingdom, but she imprismed him in a black crystalline shard of curdled magic. It was very dramatic.

Monsters emerged from their hidey-holes to terrorize the citizens of Loathing, and larger monsters emerged from larger hidey-holes to terrorize those monsters, all under the control of the Naughty Sorceress.

In the King's absence, the Council of Loathing convened to attempt to impose order on the Kingdom. Their success was limited, however, to imposing their will on adventurers who came to the Kingdom seeking fame, fortune, or quality products at reasonable prices. And as you've probably guessed by now, one of those adventurers is you!

KoL is fun and puzzling at the same time. There are infinite combinations you can make to improve your weapons, your garb, your spells, etc. It's humorous and challenging ... and something else to wile away the incredibly long days of TDOS...

Warning! KoL is addictive.

VF21, Thanks! I have been hooked since you introduced me to this! I actually am running two players (a seal clubber and a Accordian Theif) and it works great on my Blackberry using Opera Mini Browser!

This game is so funny and has so many cultural references that I get but find amazingly obscure!

Funny, fun, and challenging... BTW... any thoughts on how to beat the Knob Golblin King in Cobb's Knob? I can get in there in costume, but never beat him in battle.

Perserverance and the right weapon, along with - if I recall - at least one accessory to reduce your exposure to foul odors, I think. That and the proper level - if you're there before you acquire enough muscle points, you won't be able to defeat him. Use some potions to temporarily boost your strengths.

My first go-through I was a pastamancer; after my ascension, I returned as a part of the seal clubber guild.

There are a couple of sites that include walk-throughs of sorts and recipes for the proper use of meat stacks to create advanced weaponry, charms, etc. Let me know if you're interested and I'll send you the link.

Okay, Okay, I'll try it.

edit: pretty weird stuff. Must not get too involved. Will suck time away from school, kid, wife, saxophone...

I made a female sauceror, because it's indicative of what I like to do. Get all pretty and cook with some sauce.;)

Want to see the extents to which some will go? Check out KolWiki

And then, for the ultimate walk-through, list of spoilers, etc. there's always This one.

Reminds me a little of an oooold skooool Infocom text-based game called Nord and Bert Couldn't Make Head or Tail of It where the solutions were all based on wordplay.
