Interview with Kim Smith Following the WNBA Draft

Ute selected with 13th overall pick by Sacramento Monarchs.

SALT LAKE CITY -- Wednesday was an extremely busy day for former University of Utah basketball standout Kim Smith. But she found time to do an interview with Utah Sports Information after being drafted by the reigning WNBA Champion Sacramento Monarchs with the 13th pick in the first round of Wednesday's WNBA Draft.
On being drafted by the Monarchs - "I'm so excited. It seems like a great fit for me, with their team and style of play. I think I'll fit in really well."
On the last few days - "It has been pretty nerve-wracking. I didn't have a great (pre-draft) camp (on Monday), so I was definitely nervous. Going into the camp, I had heard that if I was still available that Sacramento was going to take me. But I didn't know until I heard my name called."
On hearing her name announced - "It is a pretty unbelievable feeling. I was just sitting there, almost not expecting to hear my name called. But when they did call my name, it was just an amazing feeling."
On being drafted by the defending WNBA champions - "I like to win and I'm going to a team that wins. That's nice."ll-city girl. Hopefully it will be similar to Salt Lake and I'll be able
On playing in Sacramento - "I've always been a sma
to fit in well. But I honestly don't know much about Sacramento yet."
On making history by being one of the first two Utah players ever drafted by the WNBA - "That's pretty cool. All it is going to do is help the school and the program. I think it could really help recruiting. If it is a good thing for Utah, that's great."
