Keys for Kings to become contenders again

Agree basically with everything. Eh here's mine:

1. Get healthy
2. Get a distributing PG like Andre Miller, possibly with our expiring contracts and 1 young player/future pick(lotto protected obviously)
3. Get another shooter off the bench, maybe someone like Austin Croshere or Jarvis Hayes. We need someone who can spot up for 3.
4. Get more size/shotblocking, maybe trade Bibby for 1.
5. Define roles on this team, who is the 1st option? If we're going to make Martin the first option will someone besides Salmons or Miller actually look for the guy? Etc.
there are more but I really think those are the keys.

I'd skip the part in #1 about a PG who can run Muss' system. A smart PG with well-balanced skills should be good enough for anyone, and who knows where Muss will be in a year and a half anyway.

Other than that, I doubt that doing the whole list is even possible, but most of those parts don't sound bad.

1. Dump the trash

2. Get 2 superstars

3. Put a nice set of role players around them. We have Martin. Garcia and Price could be apart of it but thats entirely up to them. Bibby.... Who knows... Depends on if he can get back on track and can give us a few more good years.

4. Let the coaches mature into adults.... (Ok that wasnt serious... well ok a little)

5. Watch and let them all grow.

Motaman;
1. Trade Mike bibby for a young, promising talented PG who can run muss's system.
the problem here is that musselman doesnt have a gameplan. let alone a system

2. Acquire someone who can take over a game, a paul peirce-esque type of player.
if paul pierce is your type of guy, we will be as good as the pierce/walker celtics.

3. you can't be a defensive team if you don't have the players, develop a better, bigger frontline.
ok, we agree

4. Solid bench players, a little more support off the bench can help us more than you think.
everyone knows this

5. Get adelman and his crew back :p
i would prefer a coach who's won an NBA title before

I think you need to put down the Mota for a while Man ;)

1. Trade Mike bibby for a young, promising talented PG who can run muss's system.

Good luck FINDING a better PG who is actually available... besides gaurds are much easier to pick up in the off seson or draft. If you are going to trade Bibby's paper you beter get something SERIOUS for it.

2. Acquire someone who can take over a game, a paul peirce-esque type of player.

Again easier siad than done. Top impact players are very rarely traded, and there are not any in this years FA market, which leaves the Lotto. I AM all for making an all out push for Oden but that means MORE losses and most likely a draft day deal.

3. you can't be a defensive team if you don't have the players, develop a better, bigger frontline.

Size doe NOT allways equal defense, heck when we field Brad SAD and Kenny we are bigger than MOST front lines in the NBA... In fact that exact line up did ok against Utha but were NOT able to get stops. You want defense you draft and sign defense. Ron was a start, but unless Muss gets HIS way in aquisations he will forever be plagued with Petires Jump shooters for a line up.

4. Solid bench players, a little more support off the bench can help us more than you think.

Again easy to say no so easy to do. You ahve to trae tallent to get tallent and Kids take time. IF the Kings can hold on to Ron Price, and Garcia develops more there is a start. SAR is great boost from the bench but that also means you are STARTING Kenny... so beefing up at the 4 becomes the BIG problem again...

5. Get adelman and his crew back :p

That ship sailed. I was opposed to leting him go, I am not thrilled with Muss, but right now he is what we have and any upgrade at coach for the next few years is unlikely even dumping Muss begs the question who do you sign... I doubt if RA will even pick up the phone.

what do you guys think?

The BIG problem with the "resurect this team in one season" talk is that it is just so impractacall at soo many levels. Trading expiring contracts will only get you so much and then it leaves you unable to pay for the real tallent in the offseaon. Getting a high pick means loosing games and probably trading up in the draft. Moving a big contract like Bibby's is hard even when the palyer is doing well, and unless the guy we get back is named Nash or Paul I have questions about the guy being an upgrade in the long run.

The truth about a serious rebuilding is that it is an UGLY, ugly process and can even loose fan base, so with the Areana deal up in the air that complicates things even more. It means picking the right time targeting the right prospects for draft and FA's decimating the team by tradeing almost every valuable piece for expiring contracts and playing at lest one horrible season followed by a few developmenatl seasons, but often means back to back loosing seaosn where top draft picks come in and give the team a boost. Look at the Ngus and chicago in recent years for examples. I have the stomach for it but based on the number of sky is falling threads that pop up after every bad loss I suspect a lot of fans don't. It is for this reason that many fans who can't stomach a blood bath will dream up these easy fix ideas. Indeed it is the easy fix ideas that dumped Webber and Barnes for Kenny, Skiner and Corless, that brought in Bonzi for Mobley, Salomons for Bonzi and Hired SAR to fill in the gap at the 4/5, hired Jason Hart to be the defensive stoper at the 1 and fired Rick Adelman when he could not get to the WCF with these quick fix teams.

Building up the the 02-04 Kings took years, looses, trading tallent and high picks. It also meant taking some risks. The Onwers took risks beceause they had noting to loose, now thye are palying scared. The Maoofs would do well to revist what got them NEAR a championship and forget about "trying to stay there."

Your choice are rather limited once you realize how few coaches have actually won an NBA title.

In fact the only choices you have right now are pretty much Rudy Tomjonovich and Larry Brown. (Phil Jackson, Pat Riley and Greg Popovich currently aren't available). People groan at the thought of Larry Brown, but if winning a title is a requirement, he's one of the few choices available.

People keep harping on the Adelmans, Don Nelsons and Jerry Sloans of the world about how they've never won a title.

Newsflash: Not very many coaches have won a title.

If you want to lure Chuck Daly, Jack Ramsey, or KC Jones out of retirement, I suppose those are a couple of other names you can consider. Lenny Wilkens also won a title (back in 1979) but he's another guy who everyone would groan at if his name got floated around.
