Kevin Martin

So your cave didn't get the Clipper game?

You're one step away from being labeled a troll.

I hate to be negative but think Kevin or Francisco are terrible. Any team relying on either of these 2 to play more than 10 minutes a game isn't going anywhere...
kennadog, the prosecution rests.

Just to clarify - that's A-ONE, like the sauce. ;)

Thanks! I can tell my eyes are tired -- the first time I read it I saw AI instead of A1 and was thinking, what? he wants to be Iverson? :o I think I need some sleep!

I'm sorry, I just don't like his game. He's another shooting guard who can't shoot as evidenced by his horrific shooting percentages.

He's had what, 3 solid games this year? That makes him a player?

If I'm a troll you must be a homer. Can we be a little bit objective here?

I don't know if WE can be objective. I can be but I'm not at all sure about you. Kevin is in his second year on the Kings. He played very little last year so he's only one step removed from being a rookie.

Horrific shooting percentages? I suggest you look at his stats.

I'm not going to argue with you. I know what my eyes have seen and I think the majority of people around here will agree with me. I really don't give a rat's patoot about what you think about Kevin. Since you've admitted in previous posts that you've seen very few games, I might wonder what your comments are based on. But that would mean I was actually interested in a response.

Go ahead. You're not going to rain on Martin's parade. Have a nice evening and a Happy New Year.

P.S. And yes, I am a KINGS homer. To the bone. Have been for over 20 years. And proud of it.

Here are his percentages for the year as I posted previously:

Fg% - .411
3pt% - .216

Would you say that these are good?

Don't feel badly, OHSacFan. I'd forgotten about it, too, and I'm supposed to be a MODERATOR around here.

Of course, you can ignore posts without actually utilizing the ignore feature.

Call me a biased fan but...

41% is pretty good. Thats assuming he hits 4 out of every 10 shots, and when scorers like kobe bryant have 43% (who also had 41 and 42% his first and 2nd year) id say hes on the right track for now. Give him time to grow. I dont think any other 2nd year player right now is progressing as fast as he is as of now.

Good grief! I've been here over a year and didn't know there was an ignore function!

It is worth at least 10 blood pressure points. Use the Ignore function and live healthy!

More like nine, which really isn't bad when you consider that he didn't play at all in five games, and played fewer than five minutes in six others. That leaves seventeen games; he's played "solidly" in nine out of seventeen games. That beats anybody else we've got coming off the bench, and possibly a starter or two...

I noticed the stats that you cited to make the case that Martin is a bad player; here's a rebuttal stat: Martin is averaging 11.1 ppg, on 46.3% shooting when playing at least 15 minutes.

Conclusion: the kid may have just needed more time.

Hey, Schaffeb has the right to an opinion. That opinion differs a great deal from mine, but thats neither here nor there. :D

Sometimes they give me something to giggle about.

Here's his stat line for the last month:

9 games; .519 FG; .867 FT; 4 (3 pt); 86 pts; 8 (o-reb); 31 reb; 15 asst; 10 stls; 1 block; 14 to.

That is a pretty blasted good stat line.

Fair enough, we'll see if the trend continues.

I just don't see how a shooting guard with such awkard shooting mechanics can be successfull from the field.

He came in and pissed on our campfire just to do it. His was not a learned opinion. It was not constructive criticism. It was intended to be provacative and annoying. It was.

There's a difference between having an opinion and making a post that starts with "I hate to be negative but..." and then proceeds to bash one of our own players.

And you've been around long enough to know that we really don't need to get off-topic and debate about whether or not someone has the right to bash our own players around here.

;)

Yes I do have an opinion that differs from many. I don't see how that makes me troll.

This isn't about you, schaffeb. You came to a thread that was celebrating one of our own players excellent performances and have tried to derail it. It's not going to continue. We - the Kings fans who are here all the time - have a right to celebrate seeing an excellent performance without someone like you raining on the parade. Period.

It's funny you say that...

Because I distinctly recall people saying that about Stojakovic early in his NBA career (career 46% shooter) as well as Shawn Marion (career 47% shooter).

Shooting mechanics are overrated. If it goes in, it goes in.

It's nice that Kevin had a decent game against a horrific Celtics team, but I don't really think it means much.

...sarcasm off?

I'm going to get this thread back on track.

Having watched Kevin from his first start as a King back in the pre-season of 2004-2005 (when he started for Doug Christie), I am very proud of what he has accomplished. I don't get to see many games in person but I have watched EVERY single game he's played and I think what we saw tonight is more in tune with what he's capable of and WHY Geoff Petrie drafted him.

People sometimes forget that Petrie picked him for a reason. He saw something in him he liked - a lot. I think we are just beginning to see and understand.

Way to go, Kevin!!!

Huh? I was trying to say in the future I'll refrain from posting disgreemants in a thread like this. What more would you like me to do?

Well, I can't speak for VF21, but as for me, the umbrage has more to do with you hijakcing the thread for six posts before it even occurred to you to think/ask about the board's ettiquitte.

EDIT- It is also possible that that is the primary source of the "troll" branding...

Au contraire, mon ami. You actually said it much better and with more tact than I could/would have.
