Kevin Martin, ASB Most Improved Player

Wow, a few hours ago there was a sudden spate of press on this -- at least 20 or 30 sites with the same article -- but now, when I go looking for documentation for my thread, the article has mysteriously disappeared from the Internet.

Was it pulled because it was wrong, or because the results weren't supposed to be out yet?

Heck, I don't know... I guess we'll find out for sure soon enough.

In any event, there have been unconfirmed rumors in the press that KMart's it.

I have the feeling it is true, but wasn't supposed to be announced yet. I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed...

The Baby-Faced Assassin deserves it.

:)

Man I am going to sound really dumb for asking this but is the ASB MIP like an award that you win with a trophy and stuff or is it just them saying who is front runner for MIP?

I think it's just a benchmark-type thing... or front-runner, as you called it.

You can't really announce an award that doesn't officially exist. So I am assuming this had to be a column/opinion piece or some such that was for some reason put up early?

Kmart is one of our few bright spots this season, he deserves most improved. he is our best offensive player the only thing the kings have to do is realize it.

Kevin hasnt improved necessarily. not enough to warrant the award. he's just had more time to show what he can really do. he's getting double the points because he has double the minutes? is that a huge improvement? if Kevin gets MIP then some sort of award should be given to Bonzi Wells for turning down the $8 million a year and allowing Kevin to win

I think Kevin has improved. There are a lot of players around the league that get 15 - 20 minutes and put up solid numbers but they don't get any more because that is there MAX. But Kevin has proved that he can contribute with a significant amount of minutes.

More importantly Kevin has "improved" in the way that most MIP award winners do. Same way Peja did when he was a major candidate. Yes, somewhat improved. Also major minutes. And stepping into the ranks of major players aorund the league. Truth is the most improved players in the league might well be lesser guys who jump from scrubhood to 9ppg or some such. But the MIP award is almost more of a "you have arrived" award, and normally goes to guys who have been question marks but who are now going to be major starter types for the rest of their careers.

Kevin is no lock though. Eddie Curry (who is trying now) and especially Deron Williams (who I think may actually be the most "improved" as in just looking so much better will also be in the running. Nobody mentions Tyson Chandler either because he does not score enough, but he's blown up as a defender/rebounder this year as well. Monta Ellis. Igoudala making a late push. Kevin's a perfect candidate, but there are a lot of others.
