I don't think the Bobcats touch that deal, either.
Yes, I believe that is enough to make the playoffs. Remember that even if Boston ponies up three first rounders to get Love, they'd still have six over the next five years and could throw a few more into deals to get more players. Not only that, but if they give up three first-rounders, they probably get to keep Green. Rondo/Love/Green/Bass/fill in with vets is easily good enough to get into the playoffs in the East next year.
The thinking is that Love would likely be willing to sign an extension in Boston next to Rondo. If not, then you're right, Boston's deal gets smaller and maybe we've got a chance to come close to it. My reading of the tea leaves (and that's all it is) says Love would sign an extension in Boston as a condition of the trade, that's why Boston's offer out paces us.

first off, its the hornets not the bobcats. second, you gave up the farm to get a player who isn't that great w/o an extension. yeah, he puts up nice fluffy stats but his team still in the lottery. he had a great coach in adelman capable of extracting the best out of his players also. thats a risky ass move i would never venture into. we'd essentially have like 10 power forwards, cuz and ray
I agree.
Personally, I wouldn't do this trade. I don't really see a scenario where it would be good for us in the long run since Love could bolt next year. I was more brainstorming around what kind of deal would actually get it done.
Gay + McLemore + #8 is way too rich for Love without a long term contract. I'd join the PDA haters if that happened. We need a little equity for the willingness to take him on a rental with no promise of resigning.
What I meant was they sign Love to a contract with the stipulation that it is his ticket out of Minny.
My point is that he won't do that to get traded to Sacramento. He'll spend his last year in Minnesota and then go to the Lakers or the Bulls or the Celtics or some other large market team. He has exactly zero incentive to sign a long-term deal to put him in Sacramento without going into free agency. Boston, maybe. Sacramento, no.
Our hope, if we manage to trade for Love, is that he will fall so much in love with the city and the organization in one year that he will subsequently sign a long-term deal with us. It is the same hope we used on Rudy Gay, and we're about to see this summer how that worked out. For Love, I think that's a terrible longshot. I think he will eventually end up playing for a large-market team.
I completely agree with this. When the Kings took a chance on Gay, he had a 2 year contract with one year up to him. But with Love its just a rental. It seems like quite a gamble to bring Love in for one year and hope that it works out. Because if it doesn't, your sacrificing a lot when you can get a good player in this great draft at 8. Don't get me wrong I think Love would be awesome on this team, but not at the cost of the future if it doesn't go well.I'd much rather trade down for Payton and Capela than trade a bunch of assets for what could be a one year rental. And he's not even that good of a fit next to DMC imo. Not worth it
Sounds like your own made up realityAmico doesn't know squat. I'll save everyone the trouble. We are not getting Love, Rondo or any other big time player via trade or FA. and Depending on if Gay opts out, they will lose either IT or Gay, or both possibly..unless the overpay for IT. Sorry, but such is the reality of the Kings.
How are we sacrificing a lot? and even if we are, i think it's worth it. Its time for thisI completely agree with this. Hard to say... But the fact that the kings organization is entertaining this thought, I believe speaks that kings aren't happy with their draft spot, even in this a deep draft. That is frustrating to me. Say we keep this team together for the most part and get a talented player in the draft and develop him. Possibly make the playoffs and get knocked out in the first round, but overall the team was better then the year prior. We don't have a draft pick next year in that scenario, but at least we have a player we drafted this year. So instead we bet it all on Love, just to have him possibly walk out of the kings at the end of the year and not have a draft pick we picked this year to show for it. That just is too much of a gamble even if it pays off.I guess the question you have to ask yourself is it more of a gamble to trade for Love and hope he resigns with us or is it more of a gamble to bank on our youth developing into something that can produce a winner around Cousins?

I think those are about as likely as each other. Slim to none.
This roster is headed for the dreaded mediocrity sweepstakes in my opinion. 34-38 wins.
I think a team with the core we already have could be a contender. It's about surrounding them with complimentary pieces to amplify their skillsets.
PG - ???/Thomas
SG - McLemore/???
SF - Gay/???
PF - ???/Thompson
C - Cousins/???
That core is not far off from being a damn good team. It's the rest of our team that is causing this mess.
PG - Chalmers (FA)/Thomas
SG - McLemore/Morrow (FA)
SF - Gay/M. Williams (FA)
PF - Gibson (Trade)/Thompson
C - Cousins/Aldrich (FA)
Are you going to sit there and tell me this team wouldn't compete next season? It's just about finding the right players to fill around our core guys. We have our #1 option (Cousins), #2 option (Gay), elite sixth man (Thomas), off-ball, 3-and-D player (McLemore), and third big who can play PF or C (Thompson). We really just need a defensive PG who can knock down threes and get the team into the offense and a PF who can defend the post & perimeter and block shots. The rest are just bench players that should help spread the floor when they are in.
who do we trade to get gibson? And I rather get Mike Miller than M. Williams IMO.
Those are very reasonable concerns, but I guess the silver lining would be the cap space. Assuming McLemore and McCallum are included in the deal to get Love, we would only have Cousins, Thompson, and Landry on our books next year (if Thomas walks and Gay opts in). That would be a payroll of $28 mil (salary cap is projected to be around $66 mil). That leaves us with $38 mil in cap space!
Now I know what you're thinking. Free agents don't like to come to Sacramento, but depending on how we did the year before (e.g. made the playoffs). Free agents could see Sacramento and Cousins as someone who can lead a team to the playoffs. So although we might have lost Love, there still might be a chance to bring in another big name free agent (or resign Gay).
Sounds like your own made up reality
I'm sorry you feel that way
Suns interested in Love deal w/best assets Dragic, Bledsoe & picks.NBA sources say it will take full max deal to control free agent Bledsoe.
