Keepin' the Faith - a thread of positive energy!

Prospect
Please excuse me if I posted inappropriately or shouldn't have started a new thread, but today seems to be the day I feel like I have to speak. After becoming an increasingly rabid Kings Fan over “the good years” I finally became a season ticket holder this year (I put my name on the waiting list a few years back while in San Diego; bought every ticket I could over the last two seasons for games here or in LA, never missed a game thanks to TIVO or radio and finally got the call ) For the past two years after daily reading nearly every thread on the Board (we moved to Sacto two seasons ago) no matter how excited, frustrated, or angry I got by anything said I never felt the need to post …but today I feel like I it was time.

While Kings play has been frustrating, while I have yelled and screamed at the TV, Radio and at Arco for more energy, for shots to drop, and for less whining, and while of course I have internally questioned where this team could go this season, what has surprised/frustrated me more than anything the "core" has done is the apparent lack of faith many KingsFans have.

I was shocked to see the same fans who are considered the truest, most loyal, best and loudest – that fan base being one of the major reasons I started seriously following the team – would be streaming out of ARCO no matter the score half way through the fourth quarter of a season opener (it looked like a Lakers game avoiding traffic), who seemed silenced at many points Tuesday, who I swear actually booed Peja when he missed (an obviously indisputably clean layup), who have been posting FIRE or TRADE threads even before the season's home opener, seem to have already lost hope. No matter how depressing it may seem to be 1-4 (not 21-44, but 1-4) I just can't believe the best fans in the league – those who pride themselves on bleeding purple - especially those here who royally bleed purple are already so negative.

Isn’t there anyway we could have a thread that is restricted to truly positive things to say about this team (even if limited) as we watch it gel over the next month or so…. Not sarcastically positive, but truly positive of a fan base who BELIEVES in and supports their team???

Maybe to no avail, but I will start the positive thread…..

We have 13 of the next 15 home games coming up… that means we – the best fan base in the country - have the ability to truly show our team, our city, and the league that its no accident ACRO is voted the best home court advantage….

I, for one, promise never to leave a game early no matter the score, not stop screaming ENCOURAGEMENT for the starting five and continuing bench until I have no voice, and not lose my faith that this team can and will gel … hopefully if we all provide some more energy we can truly be the sixth man our bench isn’t currently providing the starters until which time the team itself can provide enough energy to pull us along for a play-off ride.

Sorry its long but cut me slack for a first post

First of all, welcome. It's nice to have another fan, even when a lot of us are venting...

I've modified your title just a little to hopefully allow you to have your wish for ONE thread with positive things. As a moderator, I can help in that regard.

Come on, fellow Kingsfans.com members. Allow one thread for the positive, without the snide or the sarcastic...

One request however? Please don't judge us by what you see right now. A lot of the negativity is venting, pure and simple. We've been through a lot the past couple of years and some of us just can't maintain the sunshine and flowers rhetoric 24/7.

We're still HERE, though, and that says a lot more than you might realize. We're here because, no matter how much we vent or moan, we do still love this team. We may have different ideas about what's wrong and how to fix it, but bottom line we all want the Kings to succeed.

So, once again, welcome...

On a positive note, we ARE Kings fans. We CAN and WILL rally behind our team.

:D

People have come to expect a certain level of play from this team. Anything short of contention really doesn't cut it. Sooner or later, however, we're all going to come to terms with the fact that this team just ain't that good any more. All the Niners fans on this board should know the feeling- the best franchise in football, to a constant playoff contender to a doormat. It took time to adjust to everything, but now we're out and getting excited over the 2nd win of the season (7 games in). Things will get worse before they get better. That goes for team play in a transitional period, and fan attitudes during that same period. It's frustrating to see this team do so poorly, but there are 2 roads from here. 1- we improve. Fair weather fans stay on board. Sunshine and bunnies. 2-we continue to spiral down, maybe barely make the playoffs and get bounced. The truest fans come through and continue to support this team. Everyone else leaves. (bear in mind, most of those fans have already given up and moved on to say, Miami, Phoenix, etc)

One thing to remember- no matter how angry people are when they post here, they post because they love the Kings, and are angry because the object of their love has betrayed them. No one knows whether to hate them for betraying us, love them for playing for us or hate ourselves for hating them. Most emotions have been manifested on this site. But ultimately, we still post and still complain because we want to win. People can express love in very strange ways. It's perfectly normal to be furious at the team or other fans, but ultimately, let's just calm down, and remember one thing:

GO KINGS!

The only positive thoughts I have about the Kings right now are:
1. 12 of the next 14 are at home
2. This season's start is not all that different than our previous year's starts and in those seasons we won at least 50; and
3. Reef and Bonzi

* Oh yea, also that the Kings were attempting to trade Kenny Thomas for Desmond Mason (See today's Bee), which tells me that they aren't as enamored with Martin as some people think and that they aren't sold on KT's bench role abilities.

Very Nice first post and welcome to the board KingHall

Keep the faith! Lets see how these next two weeks go. We are not dead yet!

It doesn't look good now, but you never know what happens. We may eat our words or unfortunately be right about the current situation. Either way, I'll still be cheering and screaming and joyous and fuming and every other emotion you can tag in here... even if we go 1-81

Positive- love SAR so far, strong post moves loves when he takes it hard to the hoop, love Bonzi too, a guard that rebounds? Woohoo!!!

positive- Peja's shot will come on strong soon, he will start running and slashing more once he knows SAR and Bonzi will start finding him

positive- Bibby is climbing out of his pre-season slump, getting more arc on his shot (thanks to House's suggestion )

positive- team finally coming out of brutal road sched time for some home cookin

positive - RA will work out rotations that leave some starters in to help out our offensive challenged bench, until Kevin or cisco catch fire later in season

positive- Miller will grow a funny looking goatee like Pollard and start banging bodies with authority!!

positive- All of us Kings fans love our team!!!!!!!!

Welcome KingHall! Thanks for the positive post!

Positive things -

1. The Kings are still the Kings!
2. They are still in Sac (plus for those of us who live here!)
3. They will only get better as they get more experience playing together.
4. The shiny gold jerseys will only be worn a few times this season.
....

Seriously, the fact of the matter is that this board has some of the most die hard, true blue Kings fans you will find anywhere. The very fact that we spend hours online talking about them shows how much we care. And, as the level of attachment grows, so does our tendency to feel like we have the right to be overcritical when they aren't living up to our expectations. Kind of like having kids, you can complain about their behavior from now till next week, but in the end you love them!

And, as an aside, it made me sad too that people left early on opening night. The loyalty of a big portion of the fan base has weakened, but I think if we start playing well again it will turn around.

With that said, GO KINGS! We are behind you guys every step of the way!

Thanks! I think the parenting analogy is fantastic.... which is why I thought a positive thread was so needed - I always tried live up to the praise my family provided me even in light of my mistakes or growing pains.

To the Aside, The streams of people leaving early was the biggest kicker for me as well and a quiet Arco.... I always expect more from Kings Fans......But on the positive side, Friday will provide a new opportunity for the team and for the fans....

GO KINGS!

I'd like to point out that last year the Kings started off 1-4 last year, but were arguably even worse than this year, including a 30 point thrashing in Seattle, and went on to win 50 games. So keep the good energy going, it's too early to panic.

I live in the East Coast and rarely, but as often I can, I would watch a Kings game. Last night game is horrendous, but I'm hopeful for the next. As I am always with the Kings. I been a very strong King supporters for years, and everyone here in Atlanta likes to put down the Kings when speaking to me about basketball, but they still know I will support them.

The Kings are doing bad, that's fine, it's not like it hasn't happen before. Lack of effort (which seems to show often during lots of away games), that I'm used to. The threads I'm reading today, terrible. That's okay, expected. But what bothered me most is how the moderators are replying in some of these threads. Not helping the situation but rather fueling it. I don't think they should be locked and closed away, but attacking each other for the views is ridicolous.

Kings basketball each season will always be what it is to me; Making my head grayer each year. Sometimes frustrating, but as with family, you forgive and learn to tolerate such. As I said last season, if everybody on the rosters stays, or if they get traded, it doesn't matter to me. I'm goinig to support the Kings 100%. Personally, I never did like Bibby, but because he is a King, he gets my full support.

I wish I can go to an Arco game one day, and yell at the top of my lungs in support for the Kings. But it will be awhile before that happens. Although, I hope until I get that chance, that Arco's (or whatever stadium the Kings are home in) will drown out any roar cheering for the Kings. Obviously, more then ever, they are needing that support.

1-4 What's to worry about? Go Kings!
