Right... left. What the heck. I was in a hurry.

Really too close? This is GOOD news. Before now, the numbers were pretty much overwhelmingly the other way.

If the initial reaction is this good, then there's every reason to be encouraged. This isn't about snake oil. People aren't trying to do some kind of bait and switch.

This is a legitimate proposal that will truly benefit our area. I have every faith that once people really learn about it, they'll be even more enthused.

Erm, Mike?

That's exactly the same link. :p
Actually, your link was for the main page while my link was the local news link. Before the story was a little difficult to find on the main page but it is now on the top left so it's much easier to find.

At any rate, this is great news and I loved how some of the big names were on KHTK to answer any and all questions to get the education started to those who are against this.

I also loved how someone said if the Kings leave, just think of Florin Mall. Once a popular mall to visit, it's now a ghost town. Yes, I realize there will be a Walmart built there but I thought the caller made a good point.

Oh, yeah.

Forgive me. It's over 90 degrees inside my house, I'm very excited about all this and a little incoherent.

You're forgiven. Now just turn on the AC. :)

Dave Tamayo didn't look too happy on KCRA when Sacramento County Supervisor Roger Dickinson and Darrell Steinberg spoke about the arena deal.

I don't have AC. Not usually a big need up here at 4,000 ft.

Dave Tamayo didn't present his case very well, and I loved how Dickinson and Steinberg made it clear it didn't have to be either the arena or needs like levees, schools, etc. In fact, they made him look more than a little ill-prepared. I think the actual proposal took Tamayo by surprise. He wasn't counting on a 50% portion of the sales tax increase going towards civic projects.

Was it just me or did he came off as wanting the entire $1.2 billion or what ever the amount was to go to his group's cause?

Looks like Tamayo's 15 minutes are just about up. Funny I never heard of him or his group before this deal was close to being reached.

No, it wasn't just you. That's exactly what he said and that's when Dave and Lois started to back away...

I thought that was what he said but I had to make sure. This makes him look really bad because he tried to make it seem like all the money raised would be for the Kings only and it's not. Half of it would be but the other half would go to other projects. He did himself no favors by going on the news today. He needs to go back to that rock he was hiding under and stay there.

No, it's not scientific. But it's far from useless.

This is an indication that at least some people have already changed their minds. And it's an indication there's still work to be done.

At least we have a poll to talk about...

:D

53% yes right now. Roger Dickinson is just great. He explains everything so well and so reasonably. He's the leader we have been needing. If you've never read the bio of this guy, here's the one at the Board's site.

http://www.bos.saccounty.net/district1/bio-district1.html

Part of it:

A recipient of a number of awards, Roger has been recognized as Environmentalist of the Year in 1982; received the Clean Air Award in 1991, 1997, and 2003; the Outstanding Performance Award from the Air Force Association in 1995; the Affordable Housing Leadership Award in 1998; the Outstanding Community Leader Award from the Antelope-Highlands Chamber of Commerce in 1999; the “Give ‘em Hell, Harry” Award of the Harry S. Truman Democratic Club in 1999; the Affordable Housing Award from the Sacramento Housing Alliance in 2005; the Leadership Award from the Mexican-American Alcoholism Program (MAAP) in 2005; and the Golden Heart Award from the Association for Enforcement of Child Support in 1999. In 2002, Roger became only the third recipient of the Elizabeth Prebich Award for Distinguished Leadership in County Human Services from the National Association of Counties (NACo).
Oh yeah.....he lettered in basketball at UC Berkeley ;) and went on to get a law degree.

(I do not work for him, nor is he a relative.;) )

All right! I'm starting positive thoughts now. We need to exercise mind control! This proposal will win...this proposal will win...this proposal will win...;) :D

It does make a conversation piece. However, polls like this are pretty much useless. The people that have voted in this poll probably represent the people that will never change their minds...both for and against. It is far for a randomized sample, you have no idea how many people vote more than 1x, there is no way to know what the standard error of measurement is etc. It is a much better idea to wait until people have a chance to absorb the news and then a scientific poll can be conducted. Until that time, we should all be talking about ways we can educate everyone we know what a great opportunity this is for our community.
