Tough pre-season...
Other than kids this is gonna be a rough go of a year.

And Ill ask again...What was Arco's reaction to the pre-season return of Ron Ron?

I just noticed that tonight's attendance was 8,770. I did not notice any significant reaction to Artest being announced at the open or any time during the game. Not to say no one clapped or no one booed - just not very audible on TV.

Instead of collapsing in the second half, we collapsed in the fourth quarter. Progress!

PS Reggie, I know the bench is thin, but don't use that lineup - you know what I'm talking about - ever again. Just remember, any lineup with KT is a 4-man team!

Quoting the always bombastic-optimistic Ron Artest in after game locker room interview:

"They're pretty good (Kings). If they play hard they can make the playoffs. Kevin Martin is an All-Star. They're better than most people think. Spencer played hard and was great tonight. The Kings have a big, quick lineup, but they need to push it and play hard."

Still hyping the Kings as a playoff team Mr. Artest?

Sounds kinda familiar.
:p

Under Reggie Theus... probably not.

Give me a break. Reggie's team overachieved last year. That is all you can ask for in a coach. They traded away arguably his best player for garbage (Bobby Jackson) and a young kid who is a few years away from being a factor in this league.

It's preseason. He is experimenting and seeing how different lineups work. He was without Beno, Brad, Cisco, and Q tonight. He knows what he is doing, but he can only work with the cards that are dealt to him.

I have no problem with tonight's rotation or lineup, especially considering the number of players not even playing.

It's called rebuilding, folks...and it's not always gonna be pretty. It's not for the faint of heart.

;)
We know what rebuilding is but there is no excuse for horrible lineups. We arent a great team but im pretty sure that Reggie Theus had a choice of what to put out there...and three bigs at the same time wont work.

No, with our current status and plans, it is more important to develop the kids than to overachieve, and usually, they shall develop best when given minutes.

There might have been some reason behind giving KT time over Donte. Till it is clear though, fans have a right to wonder as to what Reggie is thinking?

Great game by Hawes for sure. I was puzzled however late in the third, when our answer to Yao was to play Moore at center and KT at power-forward. Um, what? Couldn't JT have spelled Hawes at center?

Spencer had a monster game. We need more consistency out of him, but he showed why we drafted him at no. 10. The potential is there. He is a young'n, so maybe it will develop over time, like it did with Kevin.

Let's see what happens over the course of the season before judging Reggie on this. It is very plausable that Reggie has told the team that whoever "works the hardest," "runs the offence right" or "tries hardest on D" in practice will get playing time in games. If that's the case and Greene is being lazy or not playing D in practice and KT is, than Theus is setting a good precedent by giving the early season minutes to KT.

Now, if he is just trying to play the veterans more minutes so he can increase our win total, that is counterproductive for us on many levels. Either way, let's see how the season progresses to asses Theus'/Management's overall plan.

wondering is ok, just don't treat it like facts.

I'm all for developing our young guys but just for the sake of playing them is not a good enough reason to play them.

Just my opinion but I believe development starts at practice. Yes, we're talking about practice. Watching veterans play is a good way of learning as well. It just sucks to watch it as a fan. We would like to see what the young kids could do....or what they couldn't do. ;)

Both are fair assessments, and no, I am not condemning Reggie for giving KT minutes over the kids during pre-season. I agree that they have to earn them, by playing hard and with passion.

All I am saying is that the team's record 2-3 years from now is more important than this year. While Reggie, in the last year of his contract might believe that padding his record with some wins might be a way to get a lucrative new jig (here or elsewhere), owners and management (and fans in their own way), have to tell him that his future with this franchise at least depends on how the kids develop.

As far as I could tell, there was just one young kid that didn't play last night and that was Greene. I do believe that practice justifies playing time in a real game. Greene doesn't have to be lazy in pratice to lose playing time. He just has to be ( excuse the pun ) green. Inexperienced, lost on where to be on the floor on defense and offense. Lets not forget how young he is and that he had only one year of college. Thompson played 20 plus minutes, and he played well.

Kenny Thomas continues to be a mystery as to his playing time. The only reason that makes sense, is that the Kings are trying to show he can still play. Its obvious that he's not in their future plans, and with last night as evidence, it looks like the grateful enthusiasm of being allowed to play has worn off. Last night he was content to just stand around. He made no attempt to score, rebound or play defense. Nice way to showcase your skills Kenny.

Horrible lineups during a game might be cause for angst, etc. but this was pre-season, we were without too many players to really do too much AND Theus was experimenting with all kinds of combinations. Some of which, as has been mentioned already, I certainly hope never to see again.

These are pre-season games. As in BEFORE the regular season, as in a way to assess our players in a variety of scenarios. It's only one step above an intramural scrimmage. In fact, pre-season games never used to be televised and were pretty much ignored because they weren't about the score. They were about seeing what players would do under different circumstances, knowing full well those circumstances might never come up in the regular season...

I'd sure rather see Reggie do that on Oct. 23 than Dec. 23 or even Feb. 23, know what I mean?

I think it depends on who the three bigs are. The Kings had their best quarter of basketball in the second quarter. The lineup for most of that quarter was Hawes, Thompson, Williams, Martin, and Jackson. That certainly looks like three bigs to me. I'm not a big fan of Williams, but in that group, he played well. All he had to do was play defense and rebound.

I haven't been pleased with every lineup Reggie has put on the floor, but it is pre-season. Starting next wednsday, everyone has carte blanche to criticize at will any lineup they don't like. But try and bear in mind that this is team in a rebuild mode, and its not going to be perfect.
