justin williams

Wow.....petrie needs to lock him up like 5yr 10 mil. he is a free agent! we better not let him go i will truly be mad.

Er...just a TAD premature to be dropping a 5yr deal on him. I'm sure he will be invited back, and likely with some guaranteed money. Also doubt anybody else will go so far for such an unproven player, so my guess is its likely he's back.

Yeah don't get me started on Justin Williams. 3 double doubles in the last 3 weeks of the season on hustle alone. With some more experience wow.

Here is my thing with our roster as it was last year. Bibby, Martin, Artest, and Miller that is plenty of offense and Justin to me would have been great in the 4 spot as a role player. KT isn't good enough at anything to be that guy he needed offense and he never got the ball so he didn't try hard anywhere else. SAR is good in the post but, as I said we needed role player not another scorer. Williams got all of his points off put backs or just being wide open moving without the ball through the lane. He and Miller got to play together for an extended period one time and they seemed to work great together in fact that was one of Williams double doubles and Miller had his only triple double of the year with 4 of those assist coming to Williams.

I am serious when I say this last thing. KT gave us nothing last year not even effort and at time we were 4 on 5 and I feel in my heart that If a player like Williams were starting for us last season we would have had 8 to 12 more victories.

Love to have him around next season, but a few good games doesn't translate to long-term contract. Remember "Yogi" Stewart? He blocked like eight shots in one game for the Kings, got a big contract from Toronto and rotted on the bench or in a suit the rest of his career.

If Justin Williams is not on the team next year i will be so dissapointed with the organization, the kid can be something, 6'10-230 with a frame that could have way more muscle and wieght. All this talk about finding a big man in the draft, I think the big man we want is right in front of our eyes, Williams is a project but deffinitely a project this team has to take a chance on, he has all the physical attibutes to be a good player in this league.
We could easily lock him up for 2 years around a mil a year.
I hope the organization relaizes how important it is for us to resign him, start talking to him now Petrie he HAS to be back on this team.

He's not 6'10", and he had a few good weeks.

I want him back because he's cheap and has the type of skills I would like to see most of our inside guys have, but these late season surges often do not translate. The list of guys around the league who had big final weeks is quite long, and only a handful are going to be abel to do anything like that in the long term. Once a guy becomes established, teams adjust and take advantage of their weaknesses without letting them play their game so freely. I think Justin's game is simpel enough he should still be able to be efffective. But thinking that this is the answer to our big man woes is a huge stretch. He needs to basically do this for an entire season, and even if he did, he would probably be best suited as a backup energy guy rather than starter (pending putting on about 40lbs of muscle of course).

Well, I think we can all agree on that part. He fixies our worst deficiencies in a very cost-effective way. Let's re-sign him, and later on it'll be clear how big a role he should have.

(Personally, were I in Petrie's shoes, I'd be putting out some feelers to see if Justin would be willing to consider something like a 4 year contract (+ 1 year team option) at $1M or so a year, but that's just me.)

Kings.com says hes 6'10, either way his athleticism and length make up for his height. Justin deffinetly could solve the shot blocking presence and rebounding issues for us, once he gets a solid role in our rotation.
I know im baseing what I think Justin can become mostly on flashes of potential and physical skills, but those are two solid things to base his possible skillset for us on, we know he can rebound, block, and run with the best of them, we know his frame is big enough to put more muscle on, hes young, cheap, and in the perfect situation for a rebuilding team because he will see playing time. I would rather sign Williams for some of the LLE or whatever then waste our draft pick on some big that has the exact same potential only they were more hyped up in college, unless Horford,Yi or Wright fall. Im going to stand by having Justin as a rotation player next year.

In this draft rhere at last 8-10 bigs with more potential than Justin. He is in the end going to be an undersized hustle guy. Now he could be a good one, an ok one, or a poor one, but as far as high end his size and skills are always going to be limiting factors compared tot he high end of guys like Splitter or Smith or someone like that who is near 7', atheltic, and with skill.

And Justin was measured at about 6'7 1/2" without shoes at the combine. 6'8 1/2 wiht them. At no point has he been 6'10". Indeed if he had been he might have been drafted. Kings.com is basically fulll of ****.

As an aside, you would be amazed at how many All Stars suddenly pop up inthe final couple of weks of the season for lottery teams. Portland saw both Outlaw and Webster magically explode into LeBron and Peja respectively. New York saw Mardy Collins turn into Jason Kidd across the river, a tripel double machine. And I am old enoguh to remember our own good ole days when Vinny Del Negro would celebrate the end of every season by going off for 20+ points in the season ender.

Its enough to intrigue, or should be. But you cannot rely on such performances as a surefire indicator of anything.

Brick I know he shouldn't be a starter. But honestly if we went in this season with the same roster as last. I would start him over SAR and KT and let SAR come in for the 4/5 and let KT rot at the end of the bench.

I agree with this completely, the end of the season is basically early summer league. Rajon Rondo, Marcus Williams, Justin Williams... all of a sudden these guys start looking like All-Stars, but basically it means teams are playing their young guys and the level of competition has plummeted. And it's another reason I'm not sold at all on Francisco Garcia. I'd like him to put together that kind of a stretch when it matters.

Actually he measured at 6'7.75" without shoes and 6'8.75" with shoes. Just give him Julian Wrights shoes and he's about 6'10"! He also has a 9'1" standing reach. That would be near the top in this draft class.

But I agree, overall talent wise there are at least 8-10 guys ahead of him. In terms of rebounding/inside defense, not many.

Just sign him to a year or two and see what he can do under a new coach and with his progress. I do not believe in locking up unproven guys unless there are sure signs of great development. A flop with a long contract can be bad like quitting on a talent too soon.
