If Justin Williams is not on the team next year i will be so dissapointed with the organization, the kid can be something, 6'10-230 with a frame that could have way more muscle and wieght. All this talk about finding a big man in the draft, I think the big man we want is right in front of our eyes, Williams is a project but deffinitely a project this team has to take a chance on, he has all the physical attibutes to be a good player in this league.
We could easily lock him up for 2 years around a mil a year.
I hope the organization relaizes how important it is for us to resign him, start talking to him now Petrie he HAS to be back on this team.
I want him back because he's cheap and has the type of skills I would like to see most of our inside guys have...
He's not 6'10", and he had a few good weeks.
I want him back because he's cheap and has the type of skills I would like to see most of our inside guys have, but these late season surges often do not translate. The list of guys around the league who had big final weeks is quite long, and only a handful are going to be abel to do anything like that in the long term. Once a guy becomes established, teams adjust and take advantage of their weaknesses without letting them play their game so freely. I think Justin's game is simpel enough he should still be able to be efffective. But thinking that this is the answer to our big man woes is a huge stretch. He needs to basically do this for an entire season, and even if he did, he would probably be best suited as a backup energy guy rather than starter (pending putting on about 40lbs of muscle of course).
Kings.com says hes 6'10, either way his athleticism and length make up for his height. Justin deffinetly could solve the shot blocking presence and rebounding issues for us, once he gets a solid role in our rotation.
I know im baseing what I think Justin can become mostly on flashes of potential and physical skills, but those are two solid things to base his possible skillset for us on, we know he can rebound, block, and run with the best of them, we know his frame is big enough to put more muscle on, hes young, cheap, and in the perfect situation for a rebuilding team because he will see playing time. I would rather sign Williams for some of the LLE or whatever then waste our draft pick on some big that has the exact same potential only they were more hyped up in college, unless Horford,Yi or Wright fall. Im going to stand by having Justin as a rotation player next year.
As an aside, you would be amazed at how many All Stars suddenly pop up inthe final couple of weks of the season for lottery teams. Portland saw both Outlaw and Webster magically explode into LeBron and Peja respectively. New York saw Mardy Collins turn into Jason Kidd across the river, a tripel double machine. And I am old enoguh to remember our own good ole days when Vinny Del Negro would celebrate the end of every season by going off for 20+ points in the season ender.
Its enough to intrigue, or should be. But you cannot rely on such performances as a surefire indicator of anything.
In this draft rhere at last 8-10 bigs with more potential than Justin. He is in the end going to be an undersized hustle guy. Now he could be a good one, an ok one, or a poor one, but as far as high end his size and skills are always going to be limiting factors compared tot he high end of guys like Splitter or Smith or someone like that who is near 7', atheltic, and with skill.
And Justin was measured at about 6'7 1/2" without shoes at the combine. 6'8 1/2 wiht them. At no point has he been 6'10". Indeed if he had been he might have been drafted. Kings.com is basically fulll of ****.
