Julian Wright

JULIAN WRIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! steals, DUNKS, rebounds. since Gdub left the kings haven't had a dunker(besides RP7). We need to get a guy that looks awake. plus K$ and him would be niceeee. He will develop a consistant jumper. we need what he would bring.

Our Future Plan

4 days before the draft and I've come to the conclusion that Julian Wright should be our pick.
Julian is 6'8.5 in shoes and has a 7'2.25 wingspan, a frame which can add more wieght and probably has the third best potential in the draft after Oden and Durant. Hes a terrific defender, hes Athletic/Long, and most of all hes a great passer.
Now judgeing by what kind of players we have right now, I think we should build our identity around Fastbreak and finishing in transition.
Martin,Garcia,Wright,Salmons can all run the lights out, they are all terrific playmakers/ballhandlers and they are all unselfish, which will come in handy having one of the most efficient scorers in the nba in Martin.I see a very close resemblence to how Golden State Warriors played in the 2006-2007 season to how our future could look. We have to build a team that is not greedy for shots and a team that realizes Martin is the best scorer on the team. Wright IMO would be that exact type of player. Now about our defence, I say we get a athletic big similar to Biendrins (Fesenko, Davidson, S.Williams) just to name a few and we make a starting line-up of
Salmons,Martin,Garcia,Wright,Athletic Big and we just run like crazy.
Im not sold on Salmons or Garcia running the point so this would just be temporary untill we find our point of the future and we move Salmons back as a bench player, with Salmons and Garcia playing the point for a year it could really improve them as players. That point guard would most likey be coming to us in the 2007-2008 draft (Rose, Mayo, Gordon, Collison,Shved,Bayless)

So now in just two season we have a team that looks like this

Athletic Big/J.Williams
Wright/SAR
Garcia/Salmons
Martin/Douby
08 PG/Price

This is all not including who we are going to get back from an Artest or Bibby trade, so that lineup could look even more dangerous then it does right there within two years with other draft picks and expirings coming in.

We have the players and chance to MASTER the Fastbreak/Passing game, now throw in a MASTERY of Full-Court pressure and different types of zone defences and this team looks damn scary!
I know most won't agree with my idea on here but I think its one of the more plausable ones that have been mentioned this offseason so far, we have very exciting basketball to look forward to. Any comments would be nice how we could improve this whole scenario I just thought up within like 20 minutes thanks.

I agree with a lot of what you said about J Wright. I think he'll be similar to Josh Smith. But you're going to get a lot of "you're crazy!" remarks directed at you...

I would be reasonably satisfied if he were a Josh Smith type of player, only I really don't think he's as athletic as Josh Smith. My worries with Wright are well-documented (no shooting, no moves to the hoops), and I worry that even if we trade Artest we already have two jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none guys in Salmons and Garcia. Do we really need a third? Granted Wright is a different type of player than those two and you're counting on his length and athleticism, but I don't really know if his athleticism is top-notch compared to guys in the NBA (especially compared to, say, Gerald Wallace), and without that what does he have?

Antoine Wright, Kedrick Brown, Darius Miles, Joey Graham, etc. etc. etc.

I think his Length will play a huge role, hes got pretty much the same standing reach and wingspan as Brandon Wright and hes at least 2 or 3 inches shorter. Plus having multiple Masters of all trades meens we are just that much more versitile then everyone else on the court.
There is speulation that he has been working very hard on his shot this offsesason with some trainers i forget the names of them. But I watched Wright and its not like his shot is terrible its deffinitely something he can improve, and if a shot is all you have to work on to become a complete player thats pretty impressive.

I still don't really think Josh Smith is the comparison, I think the best case scenario is Luol Deng, who isn't much of a 3 point shooter, and isn't the greatest athlete (although obviously above average), but makes things happen because he's got those long arms, he's relentless and he's developed a solid midrange jumpshot. But the key is that jumpshot, as well as some more moves.

Not quite as athletic as Smith but definitely the same type of player definsively with Shot Blocking & length, Julian is also alot quicker then Smith IMO, I really like the Deng comparison, I think with the way the NBA is evolving Quickness and athleticism is ranked a little bit higher then hieght, I could see Wright giving some offensive PF's a fit when he uses his length on defence especially if we run a zone defence or soemthing.

He would give Dirk fits, I know that for sure. The Warriors put a bunch of long guys on him and he couldn't hit anything. Also remember when TMac pretty much murdered Dirk in the playoffs. Bosh has trouble with that type of player also.

I think James Worthy is another decent comparison, maybe a poor man's version of him.

Darius Miles was never praised for his work ethic and always had attitude problems.
Julian Wright has already been described as a coachs dream in terms of attitude. His work ethic is insane as he has already improved his J since his last game against UCLA. Tim Grover has been helping him improve and during many workouts teams have said that he was surprisingly knocking down J's like nothing, which is one example of his vast potential at work.

The guy is a tweener that could only dunk, he needs to be thought all other aspects of the game. In other words he is a project he could either turn out great or he can blow up in your face. Reminds me alot of Swift, T. Thomas from the bulls, and keyon Martin.

Are you kidding me? He's a good ball handler(for a PF, not so great for a SF), a good passer, he has freakishly long arms to make him similar to Josh Smith or Kirilenko on D, he's a good rebounder, and he has good footwork. He has a great work ethic and he's working on his jumpshot already. People are confusing a 3 point shot with skills. 3 pointers do not equal skills.

Wright is not a PF, maybe once in a blue moon in a run and gun offense but that's pretty much the extent of it IMO. Right now he's 6'8 210, that is not a PF I don't care what kind of system you run. He's a SF and I definitely believe he can improves his handles, I think it's just a matter of rust with him since it wasn't asked of him to handle much at Kansas playing the 4.
