John Madden Retires

John Madden has been a broadcaster for as long as I've been watching football. The game won't be the same without him.

NEW YORK – John Madden is retiring from football announcing, where his enthusiastic, down-to-earth style made him one of sports' most popular broadcasters for three decades. The Hall of Fame coach spent the last three seasons on NBC's "Sunday Night Football." His final telecast was the Super Bowl in February.

No, it will be better. John Madden jumped the shark a long time ago, if you ask me. Cris Collinsworth is far more relevant and engaging.
Yeah, this at least 15 years too late, he had lost it at the end of the CBS run.

That said I wish him well, his 80s work was splendid in terms of innovating the position.

Nah I loved listening to Madden. Al Michaels is my favorite, and Madden probably should've gone out a long time ago but still, I enjoyed his commentary

Ugh! lol, I can't stand Cris Collinsworth!

Overall, I think NBC has the best production of football. But my favorites are Greg Gumble and Jim Nantz.

Anyways, back to the topic --> Best of luck to Madden! This truly makes me sad. He IS NFL broadcasting. I will always miss Sunday afternoons with Summerall and Madden.. :)

For me it's not about innovation or engagement. Madden didn't think too much of himself, didn't try to use language to make himself sound more intelligent, or hold himself up in anyway. He's just a guy that loves football. And after hearing that voice for as long as I can remember it's about comfort.

It's that reassuring sound that you know that will always be there, and when you hear it you think, "Ahhh....football.".
