John Collins finally traded! (For Rudy Gay)

His price being a 2nd rounder and cap relief shows how valued he was. Either that or Atlanta didn't do any due diligence (possible given their recent history). I assume Wes Wilcox has connections there - we could've easily beat that offer with more picks so I assume we weren't interested

We did a deal with them last year so I assume even though they f'd us with Bogi we'd have talked to them if we had any interest. Guessing his drop in form was the straw that broke the camel's back but also guessing we had lost interest last summer before the Huerter deal.

Broadcasted to the entire world that he wasn't in their long term plans while he has another year-over-year decline and posts the worst stats since his rookie year.

I really wonder what Utah is thinking here. Maybe Ainge & Co see something salvageable there (very possible). Meanwhile they have tons of first rounders from the Gobert & Mitchell deals over the next few years that they could be entering a tank / "process" era of stacking tons of high picks without having to worry about handing out big contracts

Meh, don't love him in Utah. Now you're forcing Lauri to play the 3, rather than getting to flex him around
I think Markkanen and Collins can both play 4-5 in their lineup. Collins is an adequate enough rim protector, and luckily they won’t have to go against traditional Cs every game

I think that's about a janky fit as you get. They just were looking for value and they got it. Maybe.

Random trade not sure it's really that great for Utah, Lauri is a PF who can fill in at SF/C, it adds talent I guess but if the plan is to build around Lauri/Kessler I don't see why you make this deal they should be looking for a elite SF/SG/PG.

they plan to play Lauri at the 3. He guarded threes in Cleveland and apparently they liked what they saw.
