Joe Maloof had a stroke!!!!!

I called Joe Maloof a few minutes ago to see how he was feeling...

As it turns out, he was working with the physical therapist who has been helping him recover from double-knee replacement surgery. Of greater significance, Joe confirmed that he did in fact have a stroke last week. "Just a mild one, a mild one," the Kings co-owner informed me. "I'm fine. I just have to get back to working out consistently, which I wasn't doing because of my knees...

Wow, I hope he is doing better!

Sure, Tedy Brushi's would be classified as a mild stroke, he was back playing football mid season.

That could explain why we didn't see him on camera during the Lakers game.

Get well soon, Joe!!!

oh, whoops. think i confused a "stroke" for an "aneurysm." wait, which one is the popped blood vessel in the brain?? i think the latter...

***oh yah, and get well soon.

Yeah, the latter is what you are thinking of, a stroke is a loss of oxygen and if caught early full recovery is possible.

Since I forgot as well, get well soon Joe!

is there such a thing as a "mild" stroke??

Yes. If caught immediately, as his was, it can be overcome by treatment to increase blood flow and then with physical therapy and later increased workouts. My wife had very early symptoms, we caught it, the potential problem was corrected and 3-4 weeks later she was 99% and better than anytime in the past year. On the other hand my dad had one in his 60's but it was 45 min before treatment and it was a major one from which he only recovered maybe 60%. Joe is young enough that full recovery should be a piece of cake.

Best wishes to Joe for a quick and speedy recovery.

George J. Maloof, Sr. dropped dead of a heart attack at age 57 in 1980, haven taken over the family biz from his father decades earlier who also died young. Joe Maloof is now 53 and Gavin a year younger. Relatively early death has been a tragic part of Maloof family history, but hopefully the brothers beat some odds for a long life.

Hope you are in tip top shape soon, Joe, including the new knees. :D

What Joe had was probably a transient ischemic attack. My mom, who lived alone, had a bunch of these and they weren't discovered until she had a car accident and they did an MRI. After that, I actually witnessed a couple. They lasted maybe 10 seconds. Unfortunately, the brain damage on top of Alzheimer's caused her to have dementia.

I've taken medication for some time now to ward of the atrial fibrillation that likely caused her TIAs in the first place. It's good to know the signs and catch them early.

That's not a stroke. A stroke is when the brains blood supply is suddenly interrupted.

Get well soon Joe. Type to bump up the exercising and cut back on the food.

I think the shock of what was happening in the Lakers game is what pushed him over the edge.
