Joe and Gavin Maloof met with Burkle on Thursday

Glenn has been leaning this way for a while now. He's still had a handful of Maloof defenses in his pockets, but it was apparent he was going to be one of the converts right about the time that KJ spoke to the BOG and the Maloofs ran away from reporters I think. There are a few others still dug in, but the real test will be when the shock-jocks at KHTK come over as well.

Perhaps about the time that the Maloofs theoretically file for bankruptcy we will see in their records that the reason this rebuild has gone on for so long has been financial rather than tactical. I think that's when even Grant Napear will have to come out of his foxhole.

The rebuild has NOT gone on so long. That has been stated again and again. Been about 2 1/2 years now. Very much within the norm for a rebuild. Now could it finally have been triggered by them getting poor? Maybe. In which case yay for getting poor! But the problem has never been the rebuild taking too long. The problem was that they REFUSED to rebuild for years. Once we finally started rebuilding things have gone along quite nicely -- salary has been cleared, hyper talented kids have been acquired. Many an idiot fan can't see that, but that's their problem.

I have all kinds of people up here, one a legit Kings fan, one just an NBA fan and former Sonics fan, that just tell me with full sincerity that they CAN'T BELIEVE Petrie traded Kevin Martin for Carl Landry. They say... "he got half his value!!"

It makes me feel lucky to be informed by such quality discussions on this board.

Then I spend the next ten minutes explaining it to them... but they still only half get it.

I still say Petrie got rooked in that trade and no one will change my mind. Granted Thornton may end up being better than Landry or Martin but Petrie didn't trade Martin for Thornton.

1. He traded small for big.

2. Martin 13 mil. Landry 4 mil.

You have to take into account the context of our team. You can never judge a trade in and of itself, talent for talent. For our situation... it was an excellent trade. Salary dump, and getting rid of a guy who was never going to be part of the future.

That it's turned into Thornton is off the hook good.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't still seek equal value. If you're trading him to dump salary at least get a decent draft pick or something.

Maybe that's where we disagree. I don't think Martin's value was that high. And I just don't think we could have gotten someone of decent value... and a draft pick worth having... maybe laaate first round plus some kind of talent...

But Landry's a legit guy as a 6th man on a quality playoff team... always tradable... and since we ended up getting Dally and Cousins... we did just that.

Martin's value was highest before we re-signed him. Unfortunately overpaying killed his trade value. Still he'd never be worth more than a late lotto pick, which is a great value for a guy picked in the mid 20s but not a guy who was hyped as the face of the franchise.

In retrospect that's probably another knock on the Maloofs who forced him into that role when he was better suited as a complimentary piece.
