Jealous of Denver

Are you jealous of the Nuggets right now?

I'm jealous of any team with Carmelo Anthony.

I think you're skewering the poll, nbrans. I presume kupman is asking if we're jealous of Denver because they got Iverson. If so, kupman, I can change the wording of the poll to better reflect your intentions.

That's a good one!

I'm not jealous in the sense that I think Denver will be a championship team now. I do wish the Kings would make a move to improve the team.

Oh. I see. Haha, whoops! I thought he meant the team as a whole.

All the same, I'm still a little jealous. I mean, with Iverson they're going to be very exciting to watch if nothing else. They're a relevant team. They have an owner willing to go far over the luxury tax to put a winner on the floor even though they are wasting $25 million a year on Kenyon Martin and Nene.

So yeah, right now I'm jealous. Although I might not be jealous a few months from now when everything blows up in their faces.

Nah, just leave as is. I think most people will know what the poll is asking about - even nbrans (smart alleck :) ).

Besides, technically speaking it says 'are you jealous of the Nuggets right now?' which means they have AI but not Melo.

I'm not sure trading for Allen Iverson would have been the right move for the Kings, but I'm sure something needs to happen with this roster and the sooner the better. If anything I'm jealous of the Nuggets fans for whatever emotions of anticipation and excitement they're feeling right now. Yeah it probably won't last, but it must be a good feeling. Surely preferable to the feeling of not wanting to watch your favorite team play anymore.

No I think this is great. Now denver will never be any good HAHAH J/K

How do they except Melo and AI to get their touches? They both require having the ball the entire game. Will be interesting since AI has had trouble with other stars / good players.

And not to mention Karl is a hard A*, wonder how that will play out, AI has a long history of clashing with coaches that require him to practice and all that.

I'm not jealous, while I would have liked to bring AI here I was hoping it would have been in a larger deal that netted us some defensive pieces and front court depth (even if it was Dalembert). I also thought it would be a good way to get some value for Bibby if he is gone next season.

But this doesn't really make sense for Denver, two #1s in a perceived to be deep draft? A player that doesn't necessarily complement their current star? Those two #1s could have gone a long way to complement what they have now but now they are gambling on this AI/Melo working out. It seems like maybe they were afraid of the suspension effect and made a hasty decision but maybe not.

On the other hand maybe they can rehab AI a bit and trade him for more down the road. But for now I think this was an odd choice.

And since the Celtics didn't get AI maybe we can get to talking with them on a Bibby for one of their young bigs type of deal.

You have to wonder at some point if Denver would have pulled the trigger if Melo wasn't going to be sitting out the next 15 games. If this had been their intent all along, then why wasn't it done? I thought the idea of Iverson mentoring Anthony was arguably one of the most bizarre comments I'd ever heard... Mentor him about what? Not practicing? Shoving loved ones out into the cold naked?

I still think this has a potential to be the ONE trade that is talked about for a very, very long time if even the slightest thing goes wrong.

Am I jealous? Well, I would much rather be them than us, let's put it that way, and would trade rosters in a second. So even though I have my doubts how the whole thing works out, I guess that colors me jealous. Load me up wiht 2 30pt scorers and a frontcourt full of trees and scrapeprs and I've actually got something to watch.

Ah, but that's going to be the fun part, Brick. I'm waiting to see if Melo even gets enough touches to come remotely close to 30 ppg. With Iverson coming in now and setting the tone, so to speak, what will happen if he gets off to a good start without Melo?

There's a lot more potential for real drama here than I think some people appreciate. From the actual on-the-court stuff, to Iverson trying to mentor Melo off-court and ending up being assaulted by Melo's mom's purse.

:p

Watch Iverson comes in and averages 25 points and 12 assists a game and everyone will be like oh we should of got him!

Anywho I'm jealous they got AI, have Carmelo, have Camby, had 2 first rounds and especially have an exciting and winning team.

I cannot be jealous of the Nuggets just because they got AI. I'm afraid at this stage he may be more trouble than he is worth.

Also, as has been mentioned, there are not enough shots for AI and Melo. They may be the #1 and #2 scorer in the NBA, but they will not remain that way. What...are they going to compete against each other for the scoring title? One, or the other, or both of them, will be complaining before long about not getting enough touches.

Luckily for AI, Melo will be out long enough for AI to settle into the team. Hmmmmm! I wonder how the other players will like not getting touches at all while AI and Melo fight for top dog?

No thanks!!

IF Iverson becomes more of a distributor, this team will be lethal. He's always had to carry his team on his back, and now has a great co-scorer in Anthony, shotblocker/ rebounder in Camby, a young athletic stud in Smith and great role playing hustlers in Evans and Najera. I see this team championship bound IF Iverson realizes his role and finally understands the team game.

Interestingly enough, the only time in NBA history that two teammates finished #1 and #2 respectively in scoring was also in Denver (1982-83 - Alex English & Kiki Vandeweghe)

Of course, that team was second-round-and-out...

I don't see a reason to be jealous... the top of the '03 draft class is competing against itself. Wade has Shaq, LeBron is LeBron, now Carmelo has AI on his side.

All this AI talk begs for a poll. Are you jelaous of the Nuggets at the present moment?
jealous is when you think your wife is cheating on you. envious is when your friend (or enemy) has a smoking hot woman that you'd like to get with. similar, both associated with the color green.

i'm not envious of them. even if i were a kings fan, i wouldn't be. they aren't going to make the playoffs. first, they're a depleted team for the next 14 games. second, ai can't carry a team in the east, you think he'll carry the team in the west? third, except for the occassional steal, they got no defense. fourth, they just lost their starting point guard, 2 assists and 2 rebounds/game more than iverson. he knew the players, he knew where they like the ball. fifth, george karl loses players in a hurry.

they have no chance to make the playoffs.

two LATE first round picks for an all time great player? comeon...you cant say no to that.

sure it might NOT work but it has the potential to help this team become far more than they were before. im glad my FO isnt settling for medicrity (which we were before).

wow no chance? even though RIGHT NOW we are a top 8 team?

your stats comparison also makes no sense - comparing what dre did in denver vs AI in philly? doesnt work. sorry.

your reasoning is pretty weak. you are ignoring all the positives he brings. im not saying its the perfect trade but to make it sound like a complete mess or just a bad deal is wrong. there are positives and negatives but in the end, trading dre for AI is an upgrade.

but i do agree itll take time before AI can fully mesh with the team. in the beginning itll be wierd and a little chaotic on the court but over time it should get better.
