Jazz owner Miller has legs amputated

SALT LAKE CITY -- Longtime Utah Jazz owner Larry H. Miller's legs were amputated 6 inches below the knee on Friday.

Jazz spokesman Jonathan Rinehart said Friday's surgery was the result of complications from Type 2 diabetes.

Rinehart said the 64-year-old Miller is recovering in a hospital.

"Larry is doing well and is expected to continue to recover in the coming weeks and months," Greg Miller, Larry Miller's son, said in a statement. The statement said Miller's family would not be releasing any details.
Try to avoid any jokes about Carlos Boozer's contract options. (I did.)

It's never a good sign when diabetes patients have amputations. My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Miller and his family...

Prayers are with him and his family. Glad to hear he is doing well.

And while on the subject - props to the Utah Jazz franchise, Miller and Sloan are the prime examples of longevity. A truly classy team, IMO.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Miller and his family. Type II diabetes is a terrible disease that can lead to foot amputations and blindness and other devastating health complications. More Americans are getting it and they are getting it younger.

Wow! Even a guy with all the money in the world and access to the best possible fitness trainers and facilities still ends up with Type 2 Diabetes... sobering lesson. However, I have known numerous guys with Type 1 and 2 that have an injury on their feet and ignore it... then pretty soon toes and feet are removed to stop the gang-green <sp?>. I mean, Type 1 there is no way to avoid, but Type 2 is preventable! I need to quit my office job and go work in the fields...

Guy put together a great franchise. The Jazz have been really competitive. Literally one losing season since he bought the team. Only 3 years with no playoffs. Talk about consistent.

my prayers are with the miller family. what a loss. he was a great man. great business man. all the best to his family.
