what is going on? there both like 2-4 games behind sacramento with only 4 games left in the season. the only two teams that does not have that little o next to it.

how many more games do they have to lose?

I don't see them being much of a threat with their schedules compared to the Kings (along with that game we just let go against Suns):

Jazzies:
16th at Dallas
17th at Spurs
19th vs. Warriors

Despite what some people say, the Spurs do indeed want that #1 spot (but if they don't, it wouldn't effect them really), Mavs even moreso of course.

Hornets:
16th at Kings
17th at Suns
19th at Lakers

Hornets are not solid on the road all season.

Kings:
15th at Nuggs
16th vs. Hornets
18th vs. Sonics

whoever loses the jazz/hornets game can count themselves out....

Jazz and Hornets are in the same boat. Hornets have 40 losses, Jazz have only 39, but the Jazz lose the tiebreaker against us.

We have 38 losses.

So, with three games to go:

If Kings go 3-0 (38 losses). We are in the playoffs.
If Kings go 2-1 (39 losses). We are in playoffs (Hornets have 40 losses, Utah has 39 but loses tie breaker).

So, the ONLY way either team can catch us is if we go 1-2 or 0-3.

If we go 1-2 (40 losses) then Utah MUST win out, because they need to finish a game ahead of us to make the playoffs because they lose the tiebreaker. And New Orleans MUST win out, because they already have 40 losses and anymore puts them at 41. So if we go 1-2, in order to catch us EITHER New Orleans or Utah must go undefeated to catch us.

If we go 0-3, both teams can afford one loss (and since we are going 0-3 in that scenario, then New Orleans obviously would be getting at least one win against us).

So I think ANY win by us from here on out means that ANY loss by either Utah or New orleans eliminates them. Obviously if we beat New Orleans on Sunday, that is both a win for us and a loss for them and they are gone. If we win against Denver, than the loser of Utah/New Orleans is finished.

and it sucks both teams win last night. every team that had playoff hopes won last night. this league is so rigged.

kings are gonna have to clinch this themselves. they can't rely on the jazz and hornets losing.

Isn't that the truth, paricularly with winning teams resting their starters, games can go either way.

I meant to say, "playoff teams", but cannot get the edit option to work and I had a spelling mistake.

Don't think the Kings will have much of a problem with these last 3 games. Mavs/Spurs want that #1 seed, so I don't expect them to really let down. Especially Mavericks. Plus the road dominated schedules for Jazz/Hornets, won't help any.

the hornets play the jazz so wouldnt that eliminate the loser? hopefully the hornets can beat the lakers so that the kings can retake the 7th seed....

So, Hornets lost tonight...

Jazz play at Mavs sunday, and I don't see them letting off on the regular season yet. Avery's not happy about the last two games, and are returning home to Dallas against a lesser, but hungry opponent. Plus the Mavs do indeed want that #1 spot, and want to strong into the playoffs, #1 spot or not. Similar situation for when the Jazz play at Spurs the next night. Only they haven't lost two in a row, but did get handled pretty well by a hot, young Magic team in San Antonio, and will want to bounce back from that loss going into the playoffs.

I see NOK losing as the better situation. This puts less importance on the game Sunday. Utah also has a very tough schedule remaining, they don't have to play us, and we have the tiebreaker.

I think it was better that New Orleans lost. But two things:

1) I think we really have to take care of business tonight. If we lose tonight, then we fly home to face a revitalized and desperate Hornets team that knows that if they beat us, they's still got a shot. And its a back to back for us.

2) The one downside to the Hornets getting eliminated is that that could well mean that they just pack it in for their last few games, including the season ender vs. the Lakers in LaLa land. Hence Phoenix becomes our last best hope for bringing the Lakers back down to us so we can slip in at #7. And Phoenix is not playing well and may, how should we put this, be less than driven to beat the Lakers, force them back into #8, and have to face us in Rnd 1.

Really don't see Denver being a tough game with Camby/Martin/Boykins/Najera out (at least 3 of the 4 anyways). Andre/'Melo/Patterson still there of course.

I am hoping that their pride (having just been eliminated) will take over and they will be ticked off enough that they would love to play spoiler and knock the Kobe's out of 7th place.
