Every year ESPN has a player on each team make the draft picks for their team...

this year it was Thompson that made our pick... and its REALLY INTERESTING... on many levels...

7. Sacramento Kings
Brandon Knight, Kentucky G
"Brandon developed a lot in his freshman year," says forward Jason Thompson. "Tyreke Evans can play some 1, and our lefty, Beno Udrih, can pass really well, so he may come off the bench to start, but Brandon's aggressive. He can be our point guard of the future."

so Jason Thompson calling Knight the possible PG of the future? sounds like it means Evans at PG is over?

what i dont understand is how Beno, Knight(or any PG), plus Thornton, and Evans can all exist?

Beno is ok as a 6th man with Evans and Thornton at the 1 and 2. but another PG on the bench behind Beno?

either Thompson is leaving out Thornton or Evans is gonna be playing SF ...

I like JT, but there's a reason the Kings pay Jason Thompson to play basketball and pay Geoff Petrie to be the GM.

or he might be considering Beno isnt in our long term plans, Thompson said "point guard of the future", Knight is 19 years old and Beno is 28 (soon to be 29 if I'm not wrong) and has 2 more years on his contract. The fact Knight has been primarly a scorer in High School does not rule out that he turns to be a good passer... I read something on espn yesterday that said something about great college scorers who had score-first mentality that became good passers in NBA, and guess who is one of them? Steve Nash...

I see no problem in drafting one more guard (either Walker or Knight) in hopes that one of them will turn to be our PG of the future, playing Evans off the ball at the 2 and Thorthon being our 6th man down the road... as for our starting SF void we can fill it via Free Agency/Trade since these years draft is weak at the SF position (except for Williams)

next season team
PG - Evans
SG - Thorthon
SF - FA/Trade (Iguodala, Gay, Granger, Prince and the list goes on)
PF - Cousins
C - Dalembert
bench
G - Udrih
G - drafted PG (Walker, Knight, Fredette?)
G/F - Garcia / Greene (of of them will have to go on a trade)
F - Casspi
PF - Jackson
F/C - Thompson
F/C - Whiteside
This team is very playoff capable IMHO as they proved in those last games of 10/11 season

our team in 2 years
PG - drafted PG in this years draft (Walker, Knight, Fredette)
SG - Evans (with a better off the ball game and improved jump shot)
SF - this years FA/Traded SF (Iguodala, Gay, Granger, Prince, etc)
PF - Cousins (3 year veteran with no more maturity and turnover problems) lol I hope so
C - Dalembert (resigned vet)
bench
G - Thorthon (our great 6th man, Udrih will be gone)
G/F - Garcia (I hope we resign him for a lower price, his presence is needed since hes a high character guy and a locker room captain and leader)
F - Either Casspi or Greene (one of them will probably have to be let go for cap issues/trade/etc)
F/C - Thompson
F/C - Whiteside (being able to contribute and with a great mentor in Dalembert)
fill more bench and role players in the draft/FA

I can see this team makin some real noise, deep into the playoffs... I'm hoping Petrie will land us a big time name to fill our starting SF void...

yeah but I think JT speaks for the team somewhat.... unless he's just using this chance to diss evans as not being a good PG...

I doubt that very much. The players go through a mock draft (much like we did on this site) then justify their draft picks. What's interesting is the pattern that unfolded in order for Knight to drop down to 7th. Who jumped ahead?

uh.....am I the only one who doesn't think this has anything to do with Reke moving to the 3? JT is talking about Knight as pg, I would assume with Reke next to him, and Beno/Thornton coming off the bench.

Thornton is going to the bench before Reke goes to the 3. Shocked I'm the only one in this thread who realizes that.

Don't feel alone. I can't for a second think that it should be a goal. Of course this is Westphal we are talking about so it might be tried.

I can't believe anybody is taking JT's comments as a reflection of anything, but what it was meant to be. For fun. TDOS

i look at it like this.... yes it was done in fun...

however i see Evans and Thornton as the backcourt of the future right now... that is if Thornton can keep it up a whole season... which leave any PG we draft as a 6th man at best...

unless Evans slides to the SF spot... JT makes it obvious Evans is not the PG of the future... but are we trying to draft a backup PG?

i just found it interesting ...

Either that or Evans slides to the SG and Thornton becomes the 6th man.
