All-Star
First of all, I think everyone may be responding to a drive by poster looking for a rise, and Wa La, it worked. I hope I'm wrong about that, but thats how it appears to me at the moment.
As far as Randolph goes, I don't think anyone was in doubt about his talent. It was his attitude that had teams reluctant to take a flyer on him. Based on that, he was probably drafted about where he should have. If he ever gets his head on straight he could be a star in the league. Or he could end up being one of those players that drives you nuts with the occasional great game followed by the, what the hell happened game. I still think his true position is SF and not PF. Whats he weigh? 200 pounds and change?
Not really fair to compare him to Thompson, except maybe on the scale of star potential. Their two entirely different types of players. I would love to have both of them. I think most people are hoping that Greene can turn into a Randolph type of player.
My memory may be bad but I recall more people worrying about his weight/frame and his true position more than a perceived bad attitude, which we've heard about more since he's been drafted. It can turn into a problem, but he hasn't really done anything too out of the norm for a 19 year old, and Nelson isn't the easiest coach for rookies to deal with.
Personally, I think we're going to regret that we didn't take Randolph instead. His perimeter skills are very rare for a guy with his size and length, and he's already shown a proficiency at shot blocking and rebounding which is pretty amazing. Think of what this kid would do if he had a coach and a team situation that called for him to have more consistent PT. It's true his attitude and out of control play may hamper him, but I'll take that chance on a guy whose upside is very high. That's something you shouldn't pass on at 12 being a rebuilding team in need of some star potential. Anyways, just my opinion.
