I'm happy for Cooley. He's a hustle guy that will always give 100% on the floor. However, the only way he see's his way onto an NBA floor is probably though injury, or if Skal fails to live up to expectations. Whatever they are? In regards to Skal, I think summer league was the worse place for him. It's nothing but controled chaos, and Skal is a, "Let the game come to him type player". Letting the game come to you in summer league, where everyone is trying to make an impression doesn't work very well. I think Skal will look much better in training camp and during the regular season
 
I don't ever expect to see him in a Kings uni but good for him, he definitely earned it in SL.
 
I love the guy's hustle and ditto the idea that he earned the deal. Like others I fear that at 26 with limited athleticism there is not much up side left in his game but can't help but root for him and hope he proves us all wrong.

Yeah, that athleticism when I watch the highlights might not be NBA rotation, especially as he's listed as a PF, but he certainly was solid in SL.
 
This guy just kept getting all the rebounds and scoring around the hoop. He also has a a little nasty to his game. he is listed at 6' 9" and 246 lbs and seems to know how to play the game. Most likely plays in Reno most of the time but who really knows. He earned this two way deal in SL and good for him!
 
They are not on 15 man roster, make between 50k and 100k for G League team, but can get pulled up to their NBA team and they will make pro-rated minimum salary for any time spent in NBA.
 
What are the salaries in general for D/G league averaging? I'm curious. I''m thinking its similar to AAA baseball where the player gets a massive pay bump if called up for short contracts.

Makes a lot of sense to me. Somebody like Cooley can be a real asset in practice, in the G-League, etc. because he's tenacious and puts it all out there every time he takes the court.

Was Jakarr Sampson not tenacious and put it all out there on the court too? The big difference is Sampson has the physical profile of someone who can be an NBA player. Cooley is already at his ceiling. Zero upside.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Kings try to sign Sampson as well. He may still be holding out hope that another team will give him an NBA contact, which would pay much more.
 
Nice. I remember watching Cooley back on Utah's SL squads (and back when he was on Notre Dame), was surprised to see him in such good shape this summer. He was my pick of all the 'no names' to show well before the SL even tipped off. I do think he's got some upside but it's relative, I could see him stepping into a backup limited minutes type of role if needed that's about it though. which is fine.

I hope the other 2-way contract is used on a younger player. I like Jakarr Sampson, followed him from Brewster Academy and I like St. Johns and he's got many redeeming qualities, but ultimately he's fatally flawed because of his lack of shooting ability.
 
The Kings have definitely fixed their character issues. Next comes the attitude part of being able to compete. Randolph and Carter will be very helpful. Having a guy like Cooley is great for the Kings' softer players like Skal, Willie and Papa to practice against. If you want to compete with grown men the size of refrigerators you have to have some attitude especially at the 4 and the 5.
