Nice to know he has displayed something worth a shot, even if its the D league. Best you can usually hope for this early with a second a lot of the time.

Training camp deal with Reno time forthcoming.

But really, while our expectations have been distorted a bit by the whole IT thing, this is normally best case scenario for guys drafted that late.

I expect Cousins to fight for that PG spot in camp, rookie or not. Both he and Lawson are essentially trying to make the team in camp.

Er...yes, and no. No, as in he has no chance whatsoever, almost no matter how well he performs. If anything, the Collison suspension just seals any fevered dream of a darkhorse bid, because there's no way we would willingly enter the season with a Temple/ICousins PG battery for however many games.

Well I suppose there is a small chance that Pre-season games would be PG rotation of Ty, and both IC and Temple at backup

But if there was a serious Ty screw-up or a serious Ty injury, then Icuz and Temple might start season if only 5 game suspension, then cut Icuz when Ty or DC was back
If was a long suspension and long term Injury , Maybe look for another FA PG that gets cut during pre-season?

I guess what I am saying is that Icuz could be Injury insurance

Don't discount the idea that iCuz could potentially be the third PG on the roster, behind Collison and Lawson, and leave Temple to play the 2 and be more of a fourth PG.

Now, assuming Patterson will be cut, that still leaves us with 16, but we might yet package some players in a 2-for-1 or 3-for-2 (or even 1-for-draft-pick) to clear a spot.

Not saying that's going to happen, just noting that it's another imaginable scenario.

Now, do we retain his rights if we send him down to Reno?

Also, would he count against our max 15 contracts, if we send him down to Reno, once the season starts?

As to the second question, yes. A player on an NBA contract can be sent down to the DLeague, and they still count against the 15.

As to the first question, I'm not 100% sure. Assuming he did not sign an NBA contract we retain his rights for one year, and we could assign him to the DLeague. But the unguaranteed contract might throw a wrench in that. Now, we CAN cut him and assign him to Reno as a designated player (he plays at Reno as opposed to being a DLeague free agent) but if we did that other teams might then gave the right to snap him up with an NBA deal, because cutting the unguaranteed contract might void our draft rights. I'm not sure.

One would hope that either A) he will be obviously valuable and we will keep him or B) he will be obviously mediocre and we won't need to worry about where he goes next be it us or another team. The nightmare scenario C) he is good but we cut him and lose him anyway, probably doesn't happen but you never know.

Fair enough. Have him earn a roster spot if he is worth anything in the pros..otherwise, it's off to Europe or Asia for Isaiah.

I would be absolutely shocked if he makes the team. Collison suspension guarantees that he won't make it because Lawson was recruited here for a reason and that is to start or at least provide veteran back up minutes while Collison is out serving his suspension. In any calculations Cousins as a primary back up at PG is just asking for trouble.

Remember that time PDA ensured that with IT's injury we pretty much had to play Ray McCallum for 48 minutes a night? I highly doubt this front office wants to head down that path.

I think Cousins only makes the roster if we trade away Ben or Gay. If the roster stays put, I don't think he'll be able to make it onto the team. An underrated trade could be Ben to the Cavs? Cavs probably aren't willing to pay Smith's asking price, and maybe they add McLemore? McLemore would be a really cheap guy for their cap. If he blossoms, he's a good starter for them. If he doesn't, then he instantly becomes a serviceable backup.

I really don't see why they wouldn't make this trade. I know they're in a playoff window, but having 1 less JR Smith could let Lebron, Kyrie, and Love focus on their offense. JR isn't ball dominant, but he's a scorer. I don't think the Kings accept anything less than a 1st rounder though. Cavs' pick will most likely fall between 25-30 anyways.

Isaiah Cousins can defend big college level guards and he shot the college 3 point shot for 41.3% last season. I would not write him off so easily. Last season at Oklahoma he averaged 12.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.4 steals while playing 33 minutes a game. IC kind of reminds me of a swiss army knife at the guard position. If he can defend NBA guards and shoot the NBA three he will have a long NBA career.

Guess summer league did not go so well due to injuries... but I hope he shows up well for training camp.
To me he has that same sleepy look that Kawhi Leonard has. That works sometimes.

Cousins only played one year at PG for Oklahoma and did remarkably well. He hit a lot of clutch shots during the year. I wouldn't pay too much attention to what he did in summer league. He was coming off an injury, and playing with unfamiliar players as well. Training camp is huge for him, however, I think he'll have to convince the powers that be that they need to carry a third PG. Remember, he has the size to play SG, a position he played most of his career, as well.
