Is Jamal Sampson our PF/C guy we need???

Troy

Starter
I know I've asked this in other threads, but I think we have a good athletic big guy rotting on our bench that could fill out immediate or future needs. I still want us to get Prizbilla if we keep Brad and move him to the 4, or some other athletic freak we've all been drooling over. I just think Jamal should at least come off the bench and we can see what he can do. He is only 23 and hasn't had a lot of opporuntities from other teams yet in his career, as many of you know, it a lot of times depends on if the players in your position go down with injury and you rise to the occasion and then prove you can play. I just don't know why we have a guy with size and athletism that we sit, look at Gerald Wallace. I know we had a deep bench/team then, but he was just rotting away and is now doing quite well getting playing time on another team.

I agree. I've said similar things. He showed some good play with Charlotte in 23 games, but Rick just doesn't play him outside of GT. Where he showed a few things in the total of all his GT stints. ;)

I don't quite think he's "the" guy of course, but can be "a" guy, where he would help out in the needs of athleticism/rebounding/shotblocking/size, up front. If he got regular/semi-regular minutes. Be nice if he did develop into "that guy".

I think we should keep him around, honestly. Unless needed in a trade.

Indeed. They give a nice indication of what he could be/could of been for us had he gotten at least near-regular minutes.

Right, I doubt he's the answer, but he could at least help us off the bench. Now that SAR is that guy and K9 is starting that isn't going to happen, but if we trade K9 and SAR is our starter then it's a good possibility Sampson would come off the bench for the PF/C position. You'd think that, but RA likes to rot good young talent. At least KMart and Cisco are getting used. I hope Monia gets some playing time as well in the future as well as Price. They are all young guys that hopefully get some time to shine other than garbage time.

Yeah, Price has looked quick and good on defense when he played, and Monia is supposedly a good defender too, as well being able to rebound well, shoot, drive some, athletic, and can handle. Petrie has spoken highly of both as well.

:: sighs ::

Jason Hart also looked halfway decent in Charlotte; he's garbage, too... I would trade Jamal Sampson for a Honey Mustard Chicken w/Bacon sandwich from Quizznos.

Uh, yeah, because Hart got much more time, and was in a contract year.

But I didn't say anything definite with Sampson, just said he showed a little something in Charlotte when he was there.

I must have been too subtle in my last post. I'll try again:

Jamal Sampson = bum

Give the guy a chance. I'm not saying he's the guy we've been waiting for, but should be at least a 3rd string PF/C off the bench. He's got good size, although he needs to fill out a bit and hit the weights...he is fairly athletic...it all really depends on him hitting the weights and putting on some more muscle.

I saw Monia like hundred times when he played for CSKA in Russia. He's solid defender, decent athlete and hard worker but he's not a good off. player: he spotted up for three but it was in Europe and it was the result of his hard work. Look what happened to Diaw: he was a very good 3-pt shooter when he played in France but in NBA he is pathetic shooter though he can spot up for 20 footer here too. Handles? Not so good and that's why Sergei is not a good slasher.

hehehe the dreaded "P" word as it says there...

not sure if its adelman decision, or if its jamal causing himself not to play...

his not the guy we need at the moment, but if he works hard enough, he could be...

we'll see next year what happens, if the kings do decide to keep him ;)

Ah, just what I read previously.

Thanks you guys for the NBA scouting report and Russian scouting report on Monia. These guys have potential, but we'll have to see if they can translate that into their NBA games and are a good fit on the Kings. Samson just looks very athletic, but needs to work out very hard and put on muscle and polish his current raw game. He's been around for awhile so he needs to really buckle down and do this conditioning soon, otherwise he has a very real risk of fizzling away.
