Is Boddie Back?

#1
I read this on Rebkell in a thread, but the article is on Scout.com which is a pay site. I googled "Whitney Boddie Monarchs" and this was one of the results:

"After finishing up a final exam at Auburn on Tuesday, Whitney Boddie will be flying cross country to rejoin the WNBA's Sacramento Monarchs. ..."

Nothing on the WNBA site, but it appears someone is out the door (Chelsea? Scho (say it ain't so)?)

A speedy recovery to you Chelsea....

If Boddie is back--I am a happy Monarch fan. :) I like having a true point guard as back-up to Ticha, moving Kara back to a shooting guard where she has been sorely missed!!!

Whiz isn't going to renege on the promise he made to Kara. She will still be the primary back-up to Ticha. Boddie isn't going to play much, if at all.

The only way any player can be added to a roster, is if another player is waived, if you have a full roster. There are no medical exemptions, injured reserves in the WNBA. If Boddie comes, does that mean Chelsea is cut?

I imagine they are safe waiving an injured Chelsea, I don't see a team picking up a "defensive" guard who can't shoot. Unless they want to hold Whiz's daughter for ransom.

I thought that Donna Orender mentioned a way to use a replacement player (in case of serious injury) because of the teams being cut to 11. This was at an event for group leaders prior to the season.

Help me here, MBF. Do you remember?

I hope like hell that he "reneges," as you call it. We need a pg and, more importantly, we need Kara playing the 2 where she can get her groove back.

I disagree. We need a GOOD point guard, and this one isn't it. If she's not better as a PG than Kara, what's the use of bringing her in? To get her feet wet before she heads to Europe? Since when did this organization become a charity case?

If Boddie was a better back-up point guard than Kara, then Chelsea never would have made the team coming out of training camp. We didn't need three true SGs on this roster. Please think about that. It took an injury to the 11th man for this kid to even get a chance, so that tells me all I need to know: (1) she won't play much, if at all and (2) Kara will still be the back-up PG.

Whiz chose Kara over Haynie and also chose Kara over Aqua, and both of them were better players than Boddie. What makes anyone think that the 11th man on the team, who hasn't practiced with the team all year, will come in and supplant a rotation player? If she was that good, she would've signed with another team by now.

Whiz did not choose Kara over anyone. They made the decision to keep players who could play more than one position because of the roster cut to 11 players. Because Kara could play point, they decided not to keep a true point. I am still hoping that (with Chelsea's injury) Boddie is brought in. Kara may be a better overall player than Boddie, but she is not a better pg than Boddie, AFAIC. Look at our record. Their plan hasn't exactly been working.

According to sacbee:
Keeping Boddie or another player the rest of the season means the team would have to release Newton.

Nothing personal, but I don't think anyone else will pick her up. And at this point adding another body isn't going to really hurt anything. Yeah, she'll be new to the system, but sheez, maybe she be a positive breath of fresh air and bring some new energy. Anything would be an improvement, just my 2 cents.

Maybe if we sign Boddie, DeWanna Bonner will demand a trade to play with her former college PG. We can trade Chelsea to PHX so she and CP23 can be reunited once again also. One can dream...right?

They would have to waive Chelsea, but she is not expected to be able to play again this season, so I doubt anyopne else picks her up.

Quite frankly if Chelsea can't go then waive her.

Sorry that she is injured, but she was on borrowed time anyway. We can bring her back to camp next year.

We need a PG, and we need a healthy body. If Chelsea has to go, then she has to go. This is a business, not a sorority house.

Again, if Boddie was a better PG than Kara (or Chelsea), then Chelsea wouldn't have made the team. It's not that difficult to comprehend.

Please don't be so condescending. You disagree with me. I get that.
I'm not the only one who disagrees with you. The entire WNBA does. If Boddie was any better at PG than what we have now, she would have made either this roster coming out of training camp or at least someone else's roster. That the Monarchs were content with using two shooting guards to fill the back-up PG role instead of their recent draft pick who had no competition in camp says a lot about Boddie. She stinks.

Plus, the 11-man roster limit didn't keep Phoenix, Indiana, Connecticut, Washington, New York, Seattle, San Antonio, Atlanta, Minnesota, and Los Angeles from keeping multiple true point guards on their rosters.

At this point of the season, we just need healthy bodies; point guard, off guard, it does not even matter. I don't disagree at all with 6th. We need a better back up point guard, to move Kara back to the "2".......just not this season:(.

As far as post season, this season is gone. This team does not play consistent enough, neither do they deserve playoff fun. This organization has a lot of decisions to make in the off season. i do not want to begin to make them now, because this roster is what it is. Let's get through the remander of the schedule, win as much as possible, and let the re-tooling begin.
