Interesting Blog by Mark Cuban

Not a big Mavs fan, but someone told me to check out his blog entry for today. I think it's a really interesting and honest look into what's going on in the world of GMs. Interesting read.

A little to long to post it all, but a few interesting comments:

"I never should have authorized deals without asking for far more details. I was guilty of being overly optomistic. I wanted to believe that the next deal was the one that was the difference maker. I found ways to rationalize the business side and how i would only be losing a few more dollars and that if it made the difference it was worth it. I enabled a culture where we always thought that if we had assets to trade we could fix a mistake.
I was wrong."

Well as long as he still has talent, they will never fall off the map. The way he is going he could trade for talent for the next 5 years.

The way I read it it says basically we went after every big name that could fill a stat sheet regardless of price and how they fit. Basically confessed to every criticism of him. At least that means he is smart enough to have finally wised up to the game and maybe the Mavs will move in a direction where they can actually be serious contenders one day.

there's an old proverb that says something to the effect of "a man is absolved of all wrongdoings when he admits he was wrong." if mark cuban can actually see the light, then there's hope for everybody in this strange world we live in.

Saying he sees the light is not the same as actually changing your behavior after said sighting. Let's see what happens down the road...

Be interesting to see what this new era brings for the Mavs -- all of a sudden they are piling up defensive players, sounds like they are out of the "overpay every name player in the league" approach to team building, Nellie is gone, replaced by a serious defensive minded coach...if I were a Mavs fan I would be very intriged. The groundwork may finally be being laid for them to actually become a serious contender rather than just an obnoxious talent spewing pretender.

That post made me think- they may just continue the same tactics of going after recognized name players, which he didn't deny, only with a different goal in mind. He'll try to emulate the Spurs or Pistons and just add as many guys who can play d by reputation as possible, which doesn't translate into creating a good team. Same disease, different symptoms.

Good points. Cuban isn't cured - he's just switched addictions.

Yeah, exactly right. He's blowing with the wind, I'm not convinced that his new philosophy is any better than the old one.
