Insulting has to stop?

Why do you hate Beno?
That is a very serius question for Sacramento kings fans. Before I post a new thread, I would like to read you answers.

First, I think we use the word "hate" way too often in describing feelings about basketball players. I do not "hate" anyone. Yes, I sometimes get frustrated with Beno, or more specifically, with his play, but not him.

I think Beno has skills to be a true pg. His big failing is his court vision. Too often when he is driving, he is not looking for the open wing player or in other instances not noticing the defense is there to pick off a pass.

But, most of all, I very much dislike his habit of running down the floor whining at a teammate for a turnover. When he passes the ball, if it is not completed; is picked off; or, whatever, he blames the other guy. Granted, sometimes it is the fumble fingers or the failure to go after the ball that causes the turnover that is charged to Beno. Sometimes (just sometimes) it is not really his fault, but he does get the blame. Often times, it is a lousy/lazy pass, where any fan can see an opposing player can step in for the steal. When it happens, he still whines at his teammate as if it is their fault.

Beno never, never takes responsibility for his mistakes. And, to publicly whine at your teammate...almost every single time...is childish at best. It is a lousy way to fit in with a team. That is very frustrating to me since I am a fan of the team...the Sacramento Kings...before I am a fan of any single player.

I agree with 6th on the word "hate." I never use it to describe a Sacramento King - even a former one like "lovely" Ron Artest. Back to Beno. He now has the ball in his hands way more than ever TRYING to make it happen for his team. That's because the Kings floor leader has no Kevin Martin around to relieve the back court burden on offense. Before, he could bring it up and over half the time just dump it to Kev and wait for him to break down the D. Now it's all about Beno breaking it down and the D knows that. On many sets he gets it into the hands of John Salmons, but he's usually double teamed, it's later in the clock, and he simply has to make a play. So, considering dire circumstances Beno is trying, maybe too hard to get it done. Blaming him is not seeing the total picture IMO. Once Kev comes back, Beno Udrih's job instantly becomes SO MUCH EASIER!

We dont hate him, he just seems to have been forcing, rushing things lately. I see him try Nash moves at the wrong times and cause turnovers, alot.

I don't like the word hate. Its a word that should be reserved for the likes of Hitler and Stalin. Not basketball players. It would be fine to say that you hate the way a player is playing right now, but its an entirely different thing to say that you hate the player himself.

That aside, Beno has been a disappointment so far. He still has time to turn things around, but it wouldn't stop me from window shopping in the meantime.

I don't like him because he can't shoot the ball, can't pass the ball, can't defend, and is just a bad player in general.

Beno needs an established system to flourish. The man is not Tony Parker or Chris Paul. I like him, but he needs time to adjust to all of this shuffling the Kings are doing.

He's a back up player who is starting and it shows.

He is a backup player who the Spurs and Wolves did not want. Who was called a softie by his old coach and teammates in San Antonio. Way too much was expected of him and in my opinion he was just another typical annual MLE squandering spree like we've been doing for years now.

I hope we can trade him and let Bobby Brown play the position till we get somebody better.

I don't hate him. He is a backup PG who for whatever the reason could not earn a backup spot on the Timberwolves roster.

It's not hating. It's disliking the player's game, made even worse by external factors such as potential, contract length relative to production, etc. If Brian Cardinal had the veteran's minimum contract while wallowing at the end of Memphis's bench a couple years back, do you think Memphis fans would be calling for Cardinal's head? I think not.

I don't hate anything about beno either. If they guy could shoot three's better than Greg Ostertag than I wouldn't mind keeping him for a few years.

I haven't got a thing against Beno as a person. His game I have mixed feelings about, at least WRT our team needs. I thought his contract was too big/long when he signed it, and I still think so.

So, aside from his contract, I'm content enough at having him on the roster. Too bad "aside from his contract" exists only in fantasy basketball.

I don't hate Beno for being a lousy NBA point guard. I just dislike the fact he's dragging down my favorite team.

But hey, he proved last year he can do better than this, of course he had a better team around him, so basically "Beno is who we thought he is," a roleplayer who depends on being teamed with superior talent. Just needs to practice those open 3-pointers and chant "I am not Steve Nash, I am not Steve Nash, Confucius say, 'man no can dribble ball through opponent...'"

I don't hate Beno.. Not sure if I said it but if I did sorry...

i just want him to leave Sac and never come back. Crapo Udrih sucks.

There are times our players do very well and we love them. I think everything that is going on about this "hate" thing is normal when the players are not playing the way we expect them to play.

Beno is an excellent player. He had shown that many times already. If he could be consistent then he could very well be the elite point guard that we need.

Same goes with the other players we have. They have the right talents and had shown how goodthey can be, but they lack consistency. I don't know if it is the coaching/system or what, that makes them not play their best consistently.

Maybe they just need more time playing together to know each other and develop the right chemistry?

Or maybe nobody really believes them they ALREADY have the talent to become an elite team which make them feel inferior, notplay their best, and uninspired in most games?

When they played against the Lakers and Hornets, I saw a different team. I saw a team that wanted to make a big statement to the fans.

I'm not sure if this is the problem with Beno or not, but the key to any player, regardless of position is to play to your strengths. Don't try and be something your not. I don't think anyone would have liked to see Ben Wallace spotting up for three's. Wallace knew what he was capable of doing and what he wasn't capable of doing.

Beno at times, looks to me as though he's trying to do a imitation of Nash. He's trying to do too much. He's not Chris Paul and never will be, but he can be an effective pt guard in the league if he just does what he's capable of.

Paul, in my opinion is the best pt guard in the league. He's fun to watch and is a spectacular player. John Stocton never even came close to being as spectacular as Paul, but in the end, he was just as effective with the results. Two different players and two different styles, but both extremely effective.

I think that if Beno starts to play solid fundamental basketball, he'll be fine. If he continues on his current course, he'll never be anymore than a backup.

He just doesn't have a lot of talent. His upside is limited. He's a backup. I don't hate Beno, but I will say that one thing he does - finger pointing - I do hate because it's the opposite of accountability and respect. Lately, I haven't seen that, which is a good thing.

Precisely. He's clearly playing out of his repertoire out there, overusing the spin moves, getting out of control, jumping in the air with no one to pass to, and really getting irritating with his turnovers. But even if that clears up, he doesn't seem to have much court vision to make things happen on a routine basis--as a result, he tries to force his assists which end up becoming turnovers. And that issue with his 24% three point shooting...ugh. I don't think his 38% three point shot last year was a real fluke, and I think his real percentage lies somewhere around 33-35%, but he's not doing himself any favors by shooting that pitifully from long range. He's clearly a better mid-range guy than long range, but if he maintains his long range troubles and can't rack up assists (instead racking up turnovers), he's a real backup for sure. Right now he's really fringe, and it's questionable whether he should even be starting for many teams in the league right now.
