In hindsight (Artest trade)

Would you have done the trade?

Yes, I would have traded him but honestly, we weren't there, and we certainly don't know all of the details, especially underground ones.

Irrelevant. George Karl didn't want Artest. There was no way that trade would have gone down without Karl's blessing.

I'd say yes, but only in hindsight, I think there were a lot of quality players still available at #20 in this year's draft.

for the way George karls team pathetically performed in the playoffs this year I'd say he really doesn't have that much of a say.

But artest has decided not to opt out so this is irrelevant at the moment

I think there is this misconception that somehow we turned down Denver. According to reports, that's just not true. Karl didn't want Artest, he didn't want to change the team in mid season, and he'd rather have Najera and Kleiza.

It's on Karl for blowing it. Not the Kings. I'm sure Petrie would have gladly accepted the #20 and Kleiza for Artest.

In this version of the trade, Kleiza isn't included.

Whoops, that's what I get for not reading. Yes, by all means yes. Who knows whom else we could have picked up at #20, or packaged with the #12. Better yet, we may have lucked into a higher position.

Thats a good point. We probably would have lost more games down the stretch. This would have allowed us to get Bayless plus had a pick at 20 AND our two second rounders that we could have packaged with 20 to possibly get Thompson. So when you think about Artest for Bayless i would have loved to seen that happen. Who knows we might have even gotten a higher pick and got an even better 1st rounder! Headed into next season with Bayless Martin Garcia Thomson and Hawes, would have been a sweet young core/potential starting 5 to build around.

Ya the more i think about the more i REALLY wish we could have made that happen. O well typical luck for the kings.....none what so ever....

All signs are currently pointing to Ron opting in. He responded to Brian May of News 10 that he was not opting out, and Petrie believes that he's not opting out, although he has not received official word.

So, a trade is still possible, either that, or we have Ron for one more year.

I voted yes because I thought the topic title was referring to the Peja for Artest trade. Regarding this trade, I was tentatively in favor of trading Artest at the time, but in hindsight I would say no. The options available at #20 weren't all that exciting. We likely would have ended up with a mediocre big man or another redundant wing player. So one of those 'yes' votes should be a 'no'.

Now if Pritchard were our GM, that's a different story. He would have used the two picks to trade up and increase our value. In Petrie's defense, there are certain things he does well as a GM. He's probably one of the better ones overall simply because he rarely makes dumb mistakes-- but he doesn't take advantage of draft day trade opportunities at all.
