I'm thinking about flying out to Sacramento to watch Kings

Hey everyone. I'm a New Yorker and a big time Kings fan. I caught the Kings vs Knicks game at Madison Square Garden and am going to the Nets game on the 16th. However, I want to see the Kings at Arco Arena where it's the best place to catch a bball game. PERIOD. I checked ticketmaster.com recently and there are Kings tickets available in March. I'm planning to go by myself since my friends think I'm crazy to do this and they're Knicks fans but it's a once in a lifetime opportunity. I want to watch this team before it dismantles IF they don't win the championship this year. So, here are some questions:

1. Is the airport in downton Sacramento?
2. Are there any motels around the airport?
3. Is there car service and how much does it cost?
4. Where is Arco Arena relative to the airport?
If anyone could help me answer these questions and give me advice whether I should go or not. Altogether it would cost me about $300 in airplane tix and game ticket.

The airport is not downtown, but neither is the arena. In fact, it's a pretty short ride from the airport (which does have a hotel - a necessity when you're located in an area which sometimes fogs in to the point of zero visibility) to Arco.

Should you do it? That's something only you can decide but if you have the chance and DON'T do it, will you ever forgive yourself? I would do it in a heartbeat but I may not be the most objective person to ask.

:D

P.S. As far as tickets go, you might consider posting a request in our Tickets forum. We have members who are season-ticket holders who sell their tickets AT FACE VALUE for certain games. You might be able to get better tickets for a more reasonable price.

Good luck. If you do fly out, be sure and let us know. We have members at virtually every single game.

Starting from:1 Sports Pkwy, Sacramento, CA 95834-2300 Save Address
Arriving at: Sacramento International Airport SMF, Sacramento, CA Save Address
Distance: 4.9 miles Approximate Travel Time: 7 mins

I've never been to the Sacramento International Airport, but I'm sure there will be car rentals etc. You may find the information online.

Good luck!

The hotel at the airport is a little pricy but a nice option and a cab ride from there to ARCO would be very cheap, so it would save you money on a rental car. In the past I have stayed at the Red Roof Inn wich is also near ARCO and used their shuttle to and from the Airport so if you are cheap like me this is a less attractive but cheaper way to go.

You know what, that is not such a bad idea. Decent tickets for Tuesday's game here (Kings@Bulls) are $150+.
How long is the drive form Palo Alto to ARCO? I know the distance in miles and can get directions from mapquest, but I don't know how to account for traffic and weather (in March/April). I go often to PAL on business, but usually it is airport-office-hotel-office-airport type of deal.

Besides, ARCO is not going to be around forever and I it is kind of a basketball Mecca right now - or so I've been told. :)

Honestly if the cost for Airling nad game Tix is $300, and you are looking at one hotel night expect that to be $50 at Red Roof and about $100 at the Airpoer Hotell, maybe $50 for food and $30 cab fare to and form the game. Of course depending on the game one of us might paly chaufer for ya ;)

There's a hotel between Arco Arena and the airport called Marriott Hotel. Its just off the freeway and only a few minutes from Arco. You could even take a cab. And then call for a shuttle to take you back to the airport.

Hey everyone.
Thanks for the feedback. I really appreciate it all your thoughts and comments. This is a great community here at Kingsfans.com and the power of the internet just amazes me. So, the airport is only 4.9 miles and 7 mins away from Arco Arena. That is pretty close. Here's the deal: plane ticket roundtrip is $180 and game ticket could be $107.50 or $137.50( $137.50 will get me in Sec 118 behind Kings bench and 107.50 in Sec 104) I have not bought anything yet but i only wish to spend up to $400 or $450 for this "adventure." So taxi service would run me at $30. Then hotel $50-70. Then food. I want to watch the Houston game on sunday March 13 at 12:30 noon. I can arrive in Sac on Saturday morning and leave Sac on Sunday afternoon or night. So I'll spend like a day in Sac. Hmmmm. My expenses shouldn't be much and I might not even need a hotel room. I'll just lounge around the airport. I've got some thinking to do, but thanks everyone for your input.

i debated last nov when the kings were close to my city but i was in college and didnt' think it was wise to spend that kinda money.
well, now that i am out of college and i might forever regret that i didnt' go.
if money and time allows, by all means, i think you should go.

That's exactly what me and my mom were planning on doing last year(but to stay for like a week) I was searching for all this info too, but it never happened. :( I still hope to go and experience Sacramento and Arco arena one day. I hope you go and have a wonderful time, do it for me! lol

yeah i was gonna do the same thing this year...maybe stay a weekend or something...but never got my butt rolling with all the details...so too late now...ill settle for seeing the boys on the road for now...but I WILL see them at ARCO next season...hopefully catch a game or two

lol i know i'm sorry. i just think he's halarious, except for when he starts talking all his crap about the Kings. I don't even pay attention to what he says about them. I just wave my hand at him. But besides all that crap..gotta love him. He never fails to make me laugh

I am obviously from Australia and came to Arco for a few games last April. It was one of the great Basketball experineces. So as one of the guys said if you dont do it now you may regret it later. Plus this team will more than likely change its personnel likely very soon. Do it mate.
