I’m going to Sacto…please recommend tourist resort

My friends and I plan to go to Sacramento this weekend. I am very excited because I've never been there before. :D

I hope you can recommend some tourist resorts, please. Also, can you tell me where I can buy Kings merchandise (I heard there is a mall or …)

Of course, I will go to see Sunday’s game at ARCO. But some of friends want to go shopping. So is there a shopping mall or plaza near ARCO?

Thank you. :)

Umm...tourist resorts? No, won't find one of those in Sac! They have some nice hotels downtown though, I stayed in the Embassy Suites next to Old Sac for New Years to watch the fireworks over the river. That place was nice, hey and you get free all you can eat breakfast!! :D There are a few malls though none close to Arco, my favorites are either Arden Fair or the Galleria in Roseville. If you are going to the game there is a team store in Arco where you can buy Kings stuff also. There is a decent sized shopping center right near Arco with some decent stores and restaurants but it depends on what you're shopping for. Anyway I'm sure anyone on this site from Sac can steer you in the right direction....Have fun, Sac is a great place but maybe I'm just partial! ;)

One of the tourist things to do is to go down and visit Old Sacramento. It is right off of I-5 (and has plenty of shopping) including a store on Front St with lots of Kings merchandise. I can never remember the name of the store. :o Someone help me out here. Is it Sports Fever?

A touristy thing in Old Sac (besides the cool shopping) is the California Railroad Museum. You might want to check Old Sacramento on the internet to see what all is there.

Go to Old Sac. It's a must. If you want a big lunch and you're into seafood with a wild adventure, go to Joe's Crab Shack. Their food is awesome and they dance for you every 30 minutes! =) haha

In the mall, theres a place called Destination Sacramento.
It's way better to stop by at the Old Sac shops than there. They overprice most of their Sacramento stuff.

There's a huge shopping complex, but nothing fancy. It's more like a laidback place to chill on a Saturday. That place: Natomas Marketplace: has Walmart, Ross, Regal Cenimas, Payless Footwear, Claire's, Applebee's, On the Border, In-N-Out, and many other places. hey have a really good Chinese place called Golden Dragon..It's right across from Arco. Their food is EXCELLENT! =)

Then of course they have the team store. If you want to buy Kings gear like jerseys and such, I reccommend you buy it at the sports store or Sac Fever located at Arden Mall, which is about 15-20 mins from Arco Arena.

If you like gambling and buffets, I highly reccommend Thunder Valley. Although "smoke is in the air" Stop by at one of their restaurants or even the buffet. From Austin's steakhouse to Shanghi Fat's, they have a pretty good selection of food.

I'll edit more later, But feel free to ask me any questions. My dad reccommended most of these places since he's been to almost every single major attraction in sacramento. lol

Old Sac is pretty much the "tourist" place in Sacramento. You can visit the Capital too, there are some real nice art exhibits right now at Crocker Art Museum, if you are into history there is Sutters fort, the already mentioned Railroad museum, there is the California museum...come to think of it, there are more than a handful of museums in Sacramento. And if you are going to be downtown and are here on a weekday, check out the top floor of the federal courthouse for a great view of the whole city.

As far as buying Kings merchandise, probably "Sac Fever" in Arden Mall would be a place I would recommend.

We've been having just fabulous wheather as of late, unfortunately, the rain is moving back in this weekend, but hope you fun here

:) Thank you, EmKingFan4, 6th, The Freak, ReinadelosReys, and Iggy.

I still have two more questions ...are the capital and Arco both in the new town ?? is the new town close to the old town ? Thank you.

The capitol building is in downtown Sac which is right next to Old Sac but Arco is in Natomas sort of near the Airport. If you go to the Kings website I'm sure you could find directions to it, it all depends on where you are coming from. But I take 80 West to Truxel road exit. Make a right and you'll see it from there. Do you know where you'll be staying yet?

Yes, we can give you better directions if we know where you are staying. And, you are coming up from the Bay Area on I-80?

The Capital Bldg faces 10th St between L St and N St. There are entrances off of L and N also. The capital grounds extend all the way to 15th St. It is a beautiful area for a walk. The California Vietnam Memorial is on the grounds...near 15th St and is quite impressive (at least to me since I was in the Active Duty Air Force during the Vietnam War).

The best entrance to Old Sacramento (by car) is at 3rd and I. I find that most convenient and there is a large parking ramp there also. You can cross over by foot from the K St Mall area....(all outdoors). You may want to check the shopping there.

Hope this is helpful. Again, if we know where you are staying we can pinpoint even more.

Oh, BTW - from downtown, if you get on I-5 going north you will find 2 different entrances to ARCO Arena. They are clearly marked. You do not have to get back on I-80 and take the Truxel exit from downtown.

Oh yeah...for sure do not go to Arco from 80 if you're getting to it from downtown! I'm coming from Antelope so that's why I take 80. I agree the area around the capitol is just beautiful for walking...also whenever we go to Old Sac we always take the hour long horse and cariage ride from Old Sac up to the Capitol building and back..it's so nice. In my opinion the best place to eat in old Sac has to be the Firehouse but it is quite pricey.

if your looking for a mall close to arco, i would suggest K St. Mall. And i would definetly chack out the River City Brewing Company. best resturant in downtown! :D

" i would suggest K St. Mall."

You would suggest the K Street Mall??? Really? Downtown Plaza maybe..not K Street.

Gotta agree with you there. Unless they revitalize K St. Mall, stay away unless watching a bunch of crazy bums is your idea of a fun time. Hard Rock Cafe is a good place, though.

hee hee..I was going to say the same thing but didn't want to scare anyone off! :D That place is scary...especially at night!...I walked through to go ice skating and was fearful for my life! :o

I think we might have confused you. :) "Old Sacramento" is just a 5-6 block area we call "Old Sac" because of its appearence etc... It has the "old west" look to it. K street Mall is basically right next to it as well as a few of the new hotels. Arco is in Natomas, about a 5-10 min drive up I-5.
EDIT: Ooops. I see others have already responded. There are a bunch of weirdos around that area downtown at night.

Well , I really dont think there is a whole alot to do in Sac-Town... maybe after you seen Old Sacramento , rent a car and drive to the Bay Area , you will have tons of fun there :D

Hey! Sac has enough to offer at least for a weekend of activities, don't you think? I myself don't enjoy the bay area so much...too many liberals for my taste! ;)

:o Yes, I was confused because I couldn't find "Old Sacramento" on the map.
Thank you for clearing that up to me.

You guys are so nice. I really appreciate. :)

I hope you have or had a great time during your stay.

In response to Reina about the wierd people,

Tell me about it. I was walking in pure daylight and this guy walks up to me and starts yelling at me for walking on his property. He doesn't leave, I walk away. My dad's about the bust the protective cop stance on him. He curses at me and runs after me. Couple minutes later, he's in handcuffs.

...talk about wierd. That's the wierdest expierience I've had downtown.
